Review: Entitled simply Grime 2.0, this mammoth release sees grime originators sit next to a new breed of artists, all compiled by Big Dada label boss Will Ashon and journalist Joe Muggs. Documenting grime's continued development over the past ten years, its track selections also demonstrate that it's still a vibrant and flourishing genre. Some 35 tracks deep, the compilation sees Ashon and Muggs securing exclusive, previously unheard material, with notable grime figureheads such as Youngstar, Wiley and MRK1 contributing alongside current stars in Royal T and Preditah as well as an international cast of emergent new talent, with Local Action artist and Grimetapes documenter Slackk featuring too. Essential!

Review: Plastician's '08 debut album gets revisited. Coming straight outta Croydon with the gnarliest beats imaginable, the legendary dubstep/grime pioneer brings us such iconic anthems as "Intensive Snare" featuring the agile lyrical prowess of East London's Skepta which is all "high hats, treble and bass!" alongside such rambunctious riddims as "Real Things" which brings in Frisco, Chronic, Tempz and Esco as well. Elsewhere, things get more dubbed out (see "Hocus Pocus" or "Shallow Grave") and mournful and melodic, like breathtakingly beautiful "Japan" which concludes the album. An outstanding body of work and an essential for dubstep heads new and old.

Review: Vandal Records is a french drum and bass label founded in 2004 by SKS which is devoted to the dancefloor. Sub-label "Vandal Limited" was founded in 2014 by SKS with Redeyes and is dedicated to liquid and deep music. Their compilation Grand Royal is back with it's fourth edition of footwork, jungle and halftime flavours on Vandal LTD with a massive volume featuring Balatron from Iceland who serves up the deep and deconstructed drum and bass creeper "Missplaced" (original mix) , Hast from the UK with some wonky deep dubstep on "Beat Canon" (original mix) , DJ Madd from New York with some blunted bass inflected hip hop on "Cheeky Steppa" (original mix) plus Crimes! from Portland USA with the absolutely wicked "Beetleborg" (original mix) with bassline so razor sharp it will potentially tear up your speakers so beware!

Review: Celebrating three years of deep consummate beatsmithery, MindStep curate the inaugural MusicForYourMindStep compendium. Fifteen exclusives, baked by the label's family and close affiliates, each track surges at the very forefront of sub science, pushing the label's remit further and further into the future. Highlights include the sodden slo-mo tribalism of Feonix's "Cafeweiss", the overwhelming sense of atmospheric oppression on 11th Hour's "Ishwara" and the muffled jazz and scratchy dub drums of Trashbat's "Arrowhead". And that's only a fifth of the stark sonic soliloquies MindStep have commissioned and compiled. Dig deep and discover your own highlights.

Ashtray Wasp - (11:44) 63 BPM
Review: Given that his sound has now been referenced by countless imitators, it's testament to Burial's enduring appeal that the announcement of a new EP on a Sunday in February was enough to shake the online music press out of their collective stupor. As an EP it more than stands up to his previous work, and it may even be better than last year's Street Halo EP - where the brilliance of the title track left the EP quite top-heavy, there's no such complaints on Kindred. If UK garage was the touchpoint for his earlier releases, this EP sees Burial further developing a sound that has few obvious points of comparison, whether it's the savage, gnarled bassline of the title track, or the shambling house of "Loner", characterized by its hollowed out arpeggio and ambient crackle. But it's "Ashtray Wasp" that provides the most breathtaking moment, seeing the producer using the distinct musical language he's created and bringing confident melodic elements into play. Of course such descriptions seem trivial when trying to describe this EP - even for Burial it's far beyond what his peers and imitators could ever imagine making.

Pace Yourself - (5:12) 140 BPM
Review: Also known as Germany's Next Top Wobble, Bukez Finezt has taken things next level with "Under Control". Hyped across the board (from deep heads to tear-out boys) as one of the key releases of 2014 so far, this sub-saturated swagger-jam has an ability to sing to all corners of the ever-fractured dubstep floor. Want to go deeper again? Head for "You Don't Belong Here". Wonkier than a wooden legged pirate with gout, it's peppered with spooked SFX and a bass tone so ominous it could raise the Devil himself, Bukez clearly has a dark, dark mind! Finally we hit "Pace Yourself". A percussive hype track with a very cheeky horn sample, all manner of madness has been coded into the vast space between the elements. Minimalist chaos anyone?

Review: Since smashing her way onto the 140 scene a couple of years back, Eva808 has been kicking up a storm with her unique production style, and this EP courtesy of Innamind Recordings is the perfect example of why. We kick off with 'Pink Uzi Gang', one of 140's most prized gems of recent times, laced with bubbling subs and aquatic percussion. Next up, 'Shakti'. This one takes eastern samples and sends them to a whole new dimension, with some incredibly clean snare processing in partnership with rolling hats luscious sub bass textures. And incredible release from an incredible producer!

Slap - (6:10) 140 BPM
Review: Newcomer De-Tu debuts on White Peach with some absurdly off-kilter dubstep, on the same tip as Mala's best entries for his own Deep Medi Musik. The title tune, "Koshi", is an Eastern-tinged samurai affair with a looming dread bass emanating from the underbelly of its groove, leading beautifully into the vocally-led beats of "Sippin'", a pseudo-hip-hop tune driven by a darkly lit hardcore vibe. "Slap" ends on a more placid note, dissipating the beats and low frequencies into an itchy, mechanical bass rhythm.

Review: YouTube phenomenon-turned-dubstep label and erstwhile London promoter, UKF, brings us the proverbial goods from Doctor P and Flux Pavilion's circus of fun. And what delights are in store for the latter day dubstep lover; from current chart troubler "Bass Cannon" through hands-in-the-air rave anthem "I Can"t Stop" with its trance tinged, mournful slo-mo intro and juxtaposed raucous, synth-ravaged main part, it's fun and games all the way. Other key cuts include the ubiquitous sing-a-long (saccharin) "Sweet Shop", the quasi-metal "Mosh Pit" from Cookie Monsta and the swaggering, grime inspired "Lines In Wax". Big.

Henchmen (Enigma Dubz remix) - (5:32) 140 BPM
Henchmen (Dr Cryptic remix) - (4:37) 140 BPM
Review: Hot on the heels of "Artillery" on Four40, Birmingham bass-buster Tuff Culture delivers an equally dark and distinctive cut on Project Allout. A strutting 4/4 garage joint coded with sacks of space and slinky subs, it utilises gangster-style synth horns with a subtle funk effect. Remix-wise Enigma Dubz takes us back to the dubstep source where those horns sounds even more aggy and dramatic while Dr Cryptic lets rip with a firing, uptempo 4/4 cut that sits somewhere between bassline house and juke. Hench heaven.

Review: After last year's On My Mind release with Flava D, Royal T is back on Butterz with another sure shot of grimey pressure. As well as the instrumental beats, "Shotta" comes in two versions voiced by P Money and Footsie respectively with very different results. P Money brings a fierce and fiery delivery that pushes the already-hype track into dangerous levels of liveliness, while Footsie takes a more restrained approach with no less presence in his flow. Aside from those show-stealers, Royal T gets to stretch his legs on playful garage house interlude "Limbo" and the adventurous climes of "Glacier" with its melting pot of influences feeding into a truly diverse jam.

Review: If you're into grumbling grooves, bass as thick as half-set concrete and drums that sound like no other dubstep producer's, then Biome's "Cypher" EP is so up your street it's built a granny annex upside your bedroom. The title-track is Biome at his grumpiest; all slug bass and anvil halfsteps. "Rumble" flips the switch with a genuinely unique beat that nods towards hip-hop or quarter-speed jungle much more than it does dubstep. "Sentinel" goes back to the deep dungeon lab with a swaggering half-step and a bassline seemingly made of a swarm of wheezing wasps, while "Stone Throw" maintains that deep, minimal technoid flavour but with more emphasis on some interestingly pitched drums. "Man Made" closes the show with yet more unique rhythmic arrangements and an eerie prayer call that's so cold it could summon the spirit of Cthulhu himself.

Review: UK grime maestro Terror Danjah has been smashing it ever since his first EPs started to emerge in the early 2000s, and we have to say that the man hasn't stopped rinsing it since. Among other big labels, he's been an integral part of London's Hyperdub unit, but the time has come to spill some truth on the respected Keysound label and here he is with "Juicy Patty", a vocal-led gunshot riddim that literally sounds as if it was recorded straight on the curbside; jacking, stop-start beats and a minimal arrangement make this a true London burner. There's an instrumental mix, too, for the DJs, but the first remix comes from Logos, who shreds the entire structure down and focusses heavily on the percussion, followed by Blackdown's louder, more menacing interpretation for the peak time hours.

Review: Here, digital DJs get a rare chance to own a slew of previously vinyl-only plates from Mala's Medi Musik imprint. Deep Medi Releases 3 continues the format of its two predecessors, including cuts from 12" singles released in 2008 and 2009. For fans of good quality dubstep, it's well worth a look. While there's the odd intense dancefloor wobbler (Goth-Trad's busy "Saturn", Skream's "The Shinein"), there's also plenty of depth, melody and beauty amongst the trademark low-end pulse. Look out in particular for a pair of luscious, emotion-rich cuts from Quest, a pleasing bleep-fest from Truth, and Clouds' brilliantly far-sighted "Protecting Hands" - here available in two stunning mixes.

Review: Signature drop Calibre's best work to date with "Steptoe." A deft halfstepper that displays rigid programming and sumptuous bass weight, this is a subtle killer from Calibre. It has hint of jungalism and the peaceful melodies set it apart from the rest of his work. B-side "Silence" is less refined but rolls out a worthy number in itself.

Review: In the wake of all this grime business blowing up at the moment, it seems an apt time be delving into this compilation of early Plastician jams from a time before Mr Hawtin forced him to change his name. Coming at the emergence of dubstep when it was also called sublow or sometimes just grime, it's a thrilling reminder of the possibilities that were opening up in gritty urban electronic music at the time. With a primal approach and that icy minimalism that made the early material so exciting, there's not a duff moment in earshot across the whopping 21 tracks included here, and they've all been remastered for maximum contemporary impact. What more could a bass lover ask for?

Review: And so the remix rampage continues... Noisia hit the fourth volume of their 'Resonance' collection with an allstar cast of talents ranging from established pioneers like Futurebound and Audio to younger trailblazers like Ternion Sound and MISSIN. As you'd expect, the vibes hit thick and fast as each remixer brings their best game. Highlights include Gyrofield's haunting, near-medieval twist on 'Banshee', Forbidden Society returning to the collection with a smouldering, swaggering roller, Burr Oak's turbulent happy-slapping tech tear-up of 'Stigma' and MACHINEN's industrial strength take on 'Hand Gestures'. All this and so much more, Noisia manage to whip up world beating albums even after they've split up.

Review: A second record to this Junior Dread name comes in remix form, with Moonshine Recordings plucking versions from Joseph McGann & Sam Barrett's Gorgon Sound project. The two Peng Sound artists deliver a harmonic remake of cheerful flutes, light backing vocals and walking basslines with keys to match. Hungarian producer DJ Madd, who has close ties with the Bristol's Black Box, sits Junior Dread's vocals deeper in the mix which lightly expels the word 'freedom' behind a wall of bass and 808 kicks, while frenetically designed percussion will keep the feet moving while the heads are down.

Out Of The Blue (feat Stinkahbell) - (4:53) 140 BPM
Review: Swindle brings us "Ignition" on his own label. Blending boogie and soul flavours with power dubstep, this is an ingenious mix of flavours that must be beheld to be believed. The title track sees him team up with Footsie & Nadia Suliman for a whomping, low-slung number with swaggering b-line and halfstep lumber, lyrics laid lucidly over the top. "Ringworm" is a more synth-laden outing with a Joker circa "Purple City" style element and echoing beats, before "Out Of The Blue (feat. Stinkahbell)" rounds things off with a Rustie style whirr of synths and belching of bass.

Review: After putting out release for Macabre Unit, Imperial Audio and Phantom Hertz Recordings, Feonix debuts in full on Uprise Audio with a debut, self-titled album. Littered with collaborations, the album is a dark affair with light added by the voices of Simetra and Kaya, while Na Kika's contribution to "Central" keeps the mood hallowed. For a chunk of empty space punctuated by bass stabs, tribal drums and haunting chimes check out "Source", while "All I Ask" has the clunk of Scuba's "Latch" paired with detuned vocals that bring to mind FKA Twigs. And for no nonsense dubby dubstep it's all about "West".

Review: One of the most consistent singers from reggae's formative roots, and certainly one of the most distinctive, this collection of superb reboots sees Horace allowing his voice to be guided through 50 shades of dub. The pilot team for this bubblesome journey largely consists of Bristol bass elder RSD and new face Oliver Frost, both of whom add their own characteristics and twists to a wide range of Horace standards: 80s classics ("Money Money") to mid noughties moments ("Skylarking"), we drift happily between the borders of dub, house and genreless bass bliss. A must for any dub heads.

Review: Along with his more D&B-slanted aliases Slum Dogz and Picto, Shaun "Doctor P" Brockhurst has become a dubstep icon, thanks to releases on Circus (co-founded with Flux Pavillion and Swan-E). Here, he reaches for that old standard, the Tetris theme, and wreaks absolute havoc with it. Dropping from the straight chiptune rendering of the original into a fierce metallic beat 'n' wobble riff, he arranges it sweetly, toying with the tune in short bursts amongst the carnage of the amped-up snares and bass noise. Expect this to get dropped simply everywhere very very soon.
