Review: This latest three track display from Transparent Audio comes with a serious kick as Spektiv arrives in style, kicking off with the highly intense synthetic crushes of 'Pressure', which continues to mutate and deform into a system-ready monster, doused in electronic textures and super-punchy drum work. From here, the vacuous sub-action of 'Howler' pulls the breath from your lungs a-stop a reverberated collection of precise drum sounds and an otherworldly lead synth melody, before No-Sine gets involved on the final track 'Empty Club'. This one is a much slower but just as lethal whizzbang, focussing on explosive sub energy that is sure to set any dance alight!

Review: Oh Lord, yes! It's such a shame that the world at large mostly associates the term 'dubstep' with shockingly bad EDM and gobby Yanks with ludicrous haircuts, because as you and I both know, the genre at its best takes dub, two-step and a little bleep-style subsonic trickery, and somehow crafts them into a THC-powered vessel that'll carry you all the way from the very depths of the ocean floor to the furthest reaches out of outer space. Thankfully, Locus Sound are here to remind the world of that with a 12-track, 12-artist comp that's a red-eyed headnodder's delight from start to finish. Superb stuff.

Review: We're lucky we grasp a release a year from Karma's gnarly paws. But when we do, we always pay attention. Here are three reminders why. "Terrorist" wades into the fray with pneumatic beats that are reminiscent of Mezzanine-era Massive Attack. Foggy, misty and laced with a crucial Reggae vocal sample, it has a tsunami-like effect through a big system as waves of dubspace wash over the crowd. "Cha" continues the pneumatic rhythm feels. But this time with a persistent techno-like 4x4 that's wrapped in tight layers of warped subs. "Vacant Mind" neatly counters the energy of "Cha" with a pensive slo-mo march into the foggy void. All elements and textures woozily working together to create somnambulant momentum, it's Karma at his most meditative. Already sold out on limited vinyl, this is a seriously key release.

Review: We have another killer combination to explore here as the ever-ready Bukkha teams up with DPRTNDRP and the Innamind Recordings crew for another top notch combination, opening up with some silky sub work and warbling wizardry as 'Deliverance' unleashes some catchy, original dubstep flavour to kick us off. Following on from this system-ready roller, we then explore 'The Time Is Now', a furious combination of rolling 808 pulses and glitchy melodic patterns, fusing together to deliver a truly unique flipside, rounding off a pretty tidy two track display.

Review: Now if you were looking for an allstar 140 lineup, It's hard to look at this new single and not see it as one of the strongest drops of the year. Trends & Boylan are a dangerous duo at the best of times, but when you then combine the majesty and power of their unique approaches to production with the likes of Cimm, Youngsta and the untouchable vocals of Riko Dan, you are always going to end up with something special. The track takes the title 'Hear That', which Trends & Boylan tear to pieces, reformatting it into a rave-ready smash, layering Riko's catchy vocal line over the top of a cascade of lethal horn lines, powerful bass pushes and eerie piano melodies. This is one for the dances, make no mistake about that!

Review: When we heard the news that Cimm had an album on the way, we could barely contain our excitement. When we then learnt it was to be featured on Sentry, our expectations tripled, and boy does Cimm deliver! The project takes the name 'Unknown Caller!!' and is a perfect embodiment of what today's deep dubstep scene represents, from the irresistible sub pressures of 'The Corner' alongside Rider Shafique to eastern-dub hybrids of 'Blue Sapphire' and lower tempo bass quakes of 'I Am Jack Travis'. The collaborations are fruitful on this one, as Cimm also invites Youngsta, Mr K, SGT Pokes, Riko Dan and Animai to take part in what is undoubtedly one of the strongest dubstep projects of the year.

Review: For this latest outing from Mystic State, we see the unveiling of the 'Stutter' EP, which sees us dive into a fabulous display of steppers-inspired sound design and emotional harmonic backdrops, showing just how versatile that Mystic State sound can be. We open up with the harp-pluck-driven melodics of the title track 'Stutter', which slowly unravels into a beautifully composed combination of bulging bass sweeps and dramatic woodwind whirls. Next, Jack Flynn-Oakley joins the party for the sub-heavy sweeps of 'Falling Down', which again gives us a truly unique sound, focussing on breathy reverbs and spacious percussive manoeuvres, before SMBR gets involved to assist with the final touches of 'Ruminate'. This one is a glittering masterclass in vocal processing and delicate melodic structure, rounding the project with a syncopated twist.

Review: The Dread Or Dead crew have always been an exciting team to follow, with their release structure welcoming the weird, wacky and wonderful in unison. This latest drop from Datra is a collection of all three as we open up with the insectoid synth growls and marching percussion of 'Dono's Lab'. From here, 'Earthquake' then arrives for a mega-punch of metallic dubstep flavour, before the slower paced syncopation and trippy vocal processing of 'Asylum' sends us down an entirely different rabbit hole of sonic exploration. Finally, Beatsforbeaches steps up with an official remix of 'Dono's Lab', giving us a much more minimal take on this EP's powerful title track and rounding off the project with a dash of additional finesse.

Review: An absolute leviathan of a compilation from Project Allout here, and it's just in time for some Christmas cheer from one of the fastest growing UK bass hubs in the game! A tad packed for us to go through it all, but this is guaranteed quality, especially given the fact that the release features plenty of label regulars, new faces and even some pretty incredible cameo appearances from the likes of Caspa, Deadbeat and Dubzta. Each puts in a fine performance, particularly Deadbeat with his "Street Life" cut, a glorious mashup of funky house breaks and wobbled low-end. Be sure to check the licks from Spooky, Mr Dubzta and Tuff Culture, too. Badman vibes and another stunner from Project Allout.

Review: Over the years we have seen Drone move into numerous different electronic areas, with this latest reuniting with Sector 7 Sounds being the most experimental yet. We open up with 'Malevolent', an 808-driven sweep through intense synth lines and almost horrorcore style melodies, before 'Kaleidoscope' gives us a much more classic sounding Drone arrangement, focussing on smooth drum processing and digital-flute-like melodies. The title track 'Polar Opposite' then rides into view, utilizing a dizzying display of electronic percussion for a serious vibrant slap, before everything is stripped back for the eerie soundscapes of 'No Future', which through dissonant yet pleasing harmonies, rounding out the project with more unique textures.

Review: What a fantastic way to launch a new imprint as Dismantle touches down on Stations for a dazzling display of dancefloor flare, delivering three hard hitting rollers for the world to enjoy. We open up with the gnarly bass curls and reesey overhauls of 'Lowdown', a serious system smasher, perfect for injecting that additional dash of energy to the dance. Next, 'Hammertime', a classic sounding dismantle roller, jam-packed with siren-like leads and pumping, kuduro-style drum inflections for good measure. Finally, 'Dusty Heights' gives us another fabulous helping of heat, showing off just how clean his drum production can be with a sizzling bassy showdown to round things off.

Review: Lifted from his debut album Signals, Wen's fearsome collaboration with Riko Dan gets the remix treatment on Keysound by two heavy-hitting factions. Walton steps up first and brings the gutsy crossover rhythms, touching on taut 4/4 drum lines without forgetting about the importance of low-end presence and some deadly half step drops. Kahn & Neek meanwhile knock the track into a whole new ballpark, weaving a mysterious line in fluttering melodies that contrast with grimy string hooks, once again placing the pair far outside the rest of the pack. It's a track that manages to be sweet and deadly in equal measure, bolstered by some additional MC flex to truly make the track their own.

Review: With the Monsters Music imprint always looking to push the envelope when it comes to futuristic dubstep flavour, it's always exciting to see a new compilation drop and to see the artists they are pushing to the forefront. From start to finish, this project holds some of the gnarliest 140 drops of the year, from the squelching bassy goodness of Chaimba & Darkz's 'Amplify Skank', to the system shattering subs of No Remorse's 'Forgiven' and the metallic janks of 'Decrepit' from Yugen. The whole project is a homage to the more heavyweight, synth-driven side of dubstep in 2023, with standouts including the sub-driven mastery of 'Jezero' from Bulker, the scatty synthesiser madness of Sh?m's 'It's A Square One', and the euphoric melodies of DEFIVNT's 'Falling' epic. 25 tracks, 25 heaters!

Review: Next up on LDH, a shimmering nod to the more stripped back side of 140 & dubstep flavour as Slimy Ape touches down with a shimmering display of synthetic wonder across these chilling three originals. The title track 'Northern Winter' sets the tone perfectly, with icey LFO manoeuvres and minimal drum lines giving us a fabulous introduction. From here, a dive into deeper, gritter LFO expressions as 'Warehouse Rocker' gives us a pulsing crunch of original dubstep flavour, before the subtle dubwise chords and more system-inspired bass notation of 'Sound The Alarm' closes the EP off with a more old school feel. A very enjoyable selection!
