Review: Around the world in 12 wubs; Alix Perez's superlative 1985 continues to dig deeper and deeper into our psyche with the third volume of their faultless Atlas VA series. As always, the tempos are set to flexible as we slide and glide between the style and speeds courtesy of some incredible names... Cesco brings some proper dark UKG on 'Superstealth', Sir Hiss gets angular with the electroid funk of 'Shower Man Time', Visages go all slinky and futurist on 'Margit' while the bossman Perez and GLXY link up for something truly sexy and soulful with 'Green Lane'. All this and so much more, from Rockwell & Scepticz to Settle Down to Eprom, this is yet another exceptional adventure from the 1985 crew.

Waeys & PAV4N - "Vision" - (3:25) 140 BPM
Review: Waeys returns to Critical with four more steaming rave jams. 'Raw Flavour' says it all; a blistering head-rearranger with a rasping bassline and flips into springy breakbeat it's the perfect combo between the rougher UK style and the more cosmic European licks. Deeper into the EP we're immersed in a sea of powerful Waeys flavoured contrast as SOLAH joins the mix with the lush jazzy title track '10,000', 'B.B' goes full grizzly roller mode and P4VAN joins in on 'Vision' for a heavyweight dubstep finale. 10,000 reasons to be happy.

Up The Place - (4:29) 80 BPM
Cesco & Hamdi - "Swing King" - (4:29) 140 BPM
Review: The 1985 team have consistently delivered a top notch array of both neurotic D&B flavours and lethal dubstep collections, with this latest offering from Cesco being another great addition to their 140 arm. First up, 'GITP', is an anthemic opener, taking a super catchy vocal line and layering it with silky synthetic magic, before Bidl joins the party on 'Overdue', a behemoth-like bounce through gnarly reeses and fragrant low ends. Next, a more juke-inspired switch up as 'Up The Place' unloads high energy drum rolls and more vocal slices, before Hamdi touches down for a ferocious collaboration in 'Swing King', a final bulbous barge to close things off in style.

Juiced up with plenty of fodder for the soulful DJs to spin, but sculpted as a musical experience, this is an amazing deep dive into the deepest corners of Delrokski's soul.

Cimm & Sumgii - "Cabs Here" - (5:12) 133 BPM
Review: It's always exciting to see a new drop from Cimm, a producer who has been on an absolute spree for the last couple of years, with this latest offering being another box of dubwise wizardry. We open up with the chanted vocal backdrops and sweeping sub textures of 'Coast 2 Coast', a mind-bending title track that packs a hell of a punch. Next, Cimm players further into those initial vocal themes as choppy slices are slapped across the more minimal, aquatic pads of 'Scorpion Death Lock', with 'Make Up Your Mind' then upping the energy with mystic melodies and moody basslines to match. Finally, Sumgii jumps on board for a bubbling display on 'Cabs Here', giving us a soft landing to close things off.

Review: Whenever we see the 1985 Music banner sailing into port, we know we are in for a good time, especially when it carries goods of the level of these from VIsages, who continues to impress with another killer 4 track drop. We open up with the title track 'Dol Guldur', a gnarly fusion of metallic bass tones, neurotic drums and spiced up vocals, followed by Snowy's high energy vocal performance on 'Evidently', a serious grimey throwback. Next, the more ethereal vocal slides and mind-melting synth pads of 'Panacea' flip the themes of the EP right on their head, with a killer vocal appearance from Killa P on 'The Most' giving us the final dash of juice to round this EP off in serious style.

Review: To celebrate their consistently growing empire, the team over at Artikal Music UK have unveiled this awesome new collection for their loyal fans to enjoy, sourcing 14 original steppers rollers from some of the best in the dubstep game. We are immediately gifted a wickedly wide range of steppers originals, from the warm sub work of Mystic State's 'Ever Further Dub', to the more party-driven drums of 'Tribal Alien' from Legion and the squelching sub squeezes of MYTHM's 'Dead City'. This is an LP that truly celebrates how varied and unique dubstep music can be, with our standouts including the super-clean sub work of 'Vanquisher' from head-honcho J:Kenzo, next to the sweetly syncopated drums and haunted harmonies of Cimm's 'Deep Red'. What a collection this is!

Review: There's no denying that Leo Cap has been on an absolute tear over the course of the last two years, with this, his brand new album on Deep Dark & Dangerous, being a perfect showcase of how far his sound has come. Leaping left, right and centre across the full spectrum of dubstep ideals, Leo has cultivated a truly magnificent collection, from the aquatic sub work of 'Don't Move' and mind-bending sub sweeps of 'Underground Business', to the sub-busting bass marches of 'Step Off' and more rhythm-inspired percussion of 'Music That You Like'. It's a truly top quality collection, with our individual highlights including the super-abstract bass designs and vocal sampling of 'No Matter How Far', next to the pulsating bass warbles of 'Same Different' and raucous LFO designs of Manchesta Dem Boy'. What a collection!

Review: Once again, the legendary skill sets of Alix Perez are on show for all to see, with this sizzling new collection of 140 rollers looking like another monumental collection from 1985 Music. First up, Psychosis gives us a swampy stomp through gnarly bass drones and bone-chilling atmospheric excitations, followed by Flowdan's killer appearance on 'Militia', a more abstract tweak fest across metallic reverberations and hard hitting, poetic lyricism. Next, glittering synth work gives us more rumbling goodness on 'Circadian', which sees Visages join the party, before Ebb lands of 'Hazchem' for one final smokey spike of original stepper flavour. Review: It's been a short while since TMSV last touched down, but boy has he been saving up some juice, as this explosive new four tracker delivers a truly unique feeling of futurism and rhythmic skill. We open up with the lung-busting sub bounces of 'Kaleidoscope', a monumental roller that sets the tone for the rest of the EP perfectly, before 'The Ritual' then amps up the percussive element for a truly vibrant tribal bounce, dashed with aquatic synthetic slides to enhance the tracks texture. Next, a slower roll out on 'Rave CTRL', a drippy bubbler that focuses on violent bass growls and catchy vocal sampling, before the heavily syncopated approach of 'Supernova' then closes the EP off with some grizzly tripletted goodness.

Review: Few things can excite us as much as a new Duploc compilation, but a Duploc compilation of VIP releases, now that's a treat we will stand up for. Featuring a vibrant collection of 10 brain-busting reworks, we see some of the label's most popular tracks given a lick of 2024 paint, with heavyweights such as ENiGMA Dubz, Leo Cap, Wraz., Grawinkel, and more returning in style. The whole project packs as much punch as one could want across ten tracks, with the clear standout remixes including Mikrodot's nostalgia-inducing ruckus in 'Sun God VIP', next to the system-buckling bass slams of 'Amunjica VIP' from RWB. Top work as always.

Review: As ever, the fire of the 1985 banner continues to blaze strong, this time welcoming the explosive sounds of HIJINX inside, delivering a scintillating four track sizzler, dripping in original electronic flavour. We open up with the slower-paced, moody sub slides of 'Danger', a gnarly initiation into HIJINX's unique take on the dubstep spectrum, followed by the earth shattering twists of 'Swarm', a serious, synth-driven slam. Next, Cesco joins the party for the slightly swampier bass notation of 'Attention', before the title track 'Macabre', gives us a moody slink through more eerie backdrops and pulsing synth stabs, closing off this masterclass in real style.

Collapse Of The System (original mix) - (3:55) 165 BPM
Old School (original mix) - (3:30) 85 BPM
Review: Marking a new era for DNO Records, PLLFRY introduces the Overexciting EP, a five-track release brimming with raucous halftime beats and collaborations with vocalists NST and Genoveva. Thriving on iron-clad percussion and a blend of mangled sonic futurism, yet it consistently centred around a powerful, unfiltered bass presence - tracks like "Demolition" and "Collapse Of The System" live up to their names, delivering destructive basslines and chaotic beats that shatter the norm. The title track showcases a nuanced contrast, with a serpent-like bassline, ethereal vocals from Genoveva, and intricate hi-hats. "Water Fire" takes the intensity further with an undulating low-end, metallic melodies, and a slippery vocal contribution from NST. The bonus track "Old School" pays homage to hip-hop's golden age, infusing a boom bap beat with machine glitches and acid pellets. DNO knows.

Review: Seeing Numa Crew make a return is always a thing of joy, especially when they are making that return alongside such illustrious companies, namely Killa P and Long Range. All entities combine within a seriously explosive A-side, which taking the title 'Bun Dem Down', delivers a gut punch of subby synth switchups and metallic drum crashes, kicking off this brand System Music drop with a serious amount of style. On the flip, 'Masai Duty' takes the project in an entirely different direction, focussing on ear-catching vocal chants and bouncy rhythms to match, giving us two very different sides of the Numa Crew coin. Very tidy indeed!

First up, it's time to batten down the hatches as the explosive synth work of 'Likesss' gives us a seriously sizzly introduction, followed by the jittering synth squeezes and widening delays of 'Outcasts'. Next, crunching bass notation continues to run riot across the more metallic soundscapes of 'Lost', with 'Menace' then giving us a spicy closer, focussing on more South American rhythms and tempo patterns, with some glittering vocal essence layered on top for good measure.

Review: The run that the Manuka brand has been on over the last 2 years has been nothing short of excellent, with this latest offering from head honcho: Hypho and the explosive production techniques of Chef Boyarbeatz giving us three new spicy rollers. First up, an absolute devastator of an anthem from the pair as 'Smokers Club' sees a lethal combination of writhing LFO sweeps and hard hitting sublines deployed for a legendary combination. Next, Hypho steps out on solo duty for the warbling swampy subs of 'Akanum', giving us a slightly different feeling, before the dungeon-heavy epic of 'SELECTAH' sees Chef Boyarbeatz deliver a spine-tingling display. Review: With dubstep's superiority reigning strong in 2023, it already looks like this year is going to follow a similar path as we check out this sumptuous collection from TMSV, joining forces with NL for a smokey three tracker. We open up with the bulbous bass notation and aquatic synthetic structures of 'Prism', setting a swampy tone from the off with its unique approach to synth design. Next, the slightly slower paced 'Sector' delivers a gut punch of original bass design and glitchy atmospheric pressure, overlaying scuttling digital percussion with scraping sub sweeps for a truly unique textural overload. Finally, the jittering LFO stabs and heavily reverberated backdrops of 'Blowdown' brings us to a close, finalising a very solid start to the year for TMSV.

Review: It's always an exciting thing to witness a new 1985 bombshell land in the store, with this monstrous four track display from some of the most vibrant names in 140 being no exception to that. First up, the blobby warbles and siren-like synthesiser melodies of Ebb's 'Corrosive Soul' arrive with a major bag of oomph, giving us a swampy swinger to kick off proceedings. Next, label maestro Aliex Perez unleashes a sub-heavy warbler in 'Pulsate', pushing any speakerbox to it's low end limit, before Headland re-ignites the party flavour with the slower paced glitchy gulps of 'Guillotine' for a major sonic switch up. Finally, Samba gets busy with a gnarly piece of gristle as 'Six To Six' lets fly a gnarly combination of synths and drum slaps, rounding off the project with a weighty finish.

Review: The legendary DJ Hybrid is back in business with another top quality collection, unloading four garage-inspired bumpers on this brand new EP. The title track 'Flex Ya Chest' takes centre stage from the off, exploring old school garage vocal overlays and hard hitting sublines to kick the EP off in serious style. Next, a 140 VIP mix of 'Big Four Five', utilising a hard hitting vocal line atop a bed of quivering LFO lines and choppy drum textures, before the super smooth sub notation of 'All For You' gives us another thunderous display in close pursuit. Finally, 'Area Code' ups the pace significantly with a dancefloor-ready rumbler, focussing on fidgeting synth lines and smooth pads to give us a slightly alternative closer.

Review: Long live team Alpha Pup, an excellently organised project that have moved onto the third edition of their epic '20/20' compilation series, exploring the most lethal reaches of underground bass music. Featuring hard hitting originals from the likes of Ivy Lab, Dismantle, Rocks FOE, Bakey and more, it's clear that the team have gone all out on this collection, with sounds ranging as wide as the hardcore inspired mysticism of 'Naananaana' from Rohaan, to the industrial techno-flavours of Ila Brugal's 'Cynical'. The whole project packs a punch, but our highlights would have to include both the intense metallic madness of Deft's 'OKURTHEEXPERT', alongside Manni Dee's monstrous 'Wet Slide' creation. Tell Me - (6:11) 150 BPM
Tapestry - (4:25) 140 BPM Hot
Atomic - (4:53) 67 BPM
Review: Next up from the team over at Rubi, a very tasty catch indeed as they welcome the frankly outstanding production pallet of Skeptical inside for a full course delight. We open up with a sumptuous starter in "Tell Me", an emotive, atmospheric drift through bulbous subby backdrops, eerie vocal displays and steadily progressing chord lines, setting the tone perfectly. We then switch things up significantly for our main course as "Tapestry" focusses on subtle LFO's and grinding melodic drills for a more march-driven adventure. To close, a mind-melting fusion of stripped back drum processing and crunchy percussive additions on "Atomic", giving a delicate-yet-delightful closer to this masterful three track display.

Nu Era Dub (VIP) - (4:47) 140 BPM
Who Dat Jazz (original mix) - (4:34) 140 BPM Hot
Review: What do you expect to see when two true legends of a genre combine? Whatever the expectations are, there is no denying that this latest two tracker from both Kromestar & N-Type has exceeded them, exploiting two stunning creations to say the very least. We begin with the incredibly emotive melodic sweeps and siren-like synth leads of 'Nu Era Dub (VIP)', a truly gorgeous arrangement which combines the best of both artists in a fusion-driven masterclass. Next, 'Who Dat Jazz' arrives on the flip, again utilising subtle vocal stabs and charming key slides to give us a perfect b-side backup. Both of these stand tall in their own right, but combined, become even more special. Hats off!

Review: As always with Wraz, the wrath is evident as he once again returns to the unstoppable force of Deep Dark & Dangerous, delivering an earth shattering collection of subby weapons, perfect for dancefloor action. First up, 'Bashee' delivers a gut-wrenching punch of saturating bass growls and scuttling drum runs, before the glitchy melodic twitches of 'Mare' and the ground-rumbling synthesiser pulses of 'Swarm' up the pressure to the next level in successive fashion. From here, a more LFO-driven stutter as 'Akuma', this project's title track, delivers a shimmering fusion of crunchy bitcrushed goodness, with the dungeon-ready percussion of 'Doomed' then closing the EP off in style. Incredible stuff!

Broken Dub - (4:10) 140 BPM
Review: The crew over at LDH have provided us with a tasty bag of snacks for this one as they welcome the enigmatic production pallet of 7Kidz to the table, unveiling four sub-heavy rollers that all pack one heck of a slap. Firstly, 'Murder' arrives with a strong focus on gut-punching sub lines and bone-chilling synth melodies, before 'Vacuum' minimises the drums and amplifies those sub textures even further for a haunted, low-ended throwdown. Next up, 'Stomper' gives us a more march-like feel as unique drum sounds and a tide-like sense of atmosphere rises and falls with every new step, before 'Broken Dub' gives us one heck of a closer, focussing on sharply processed drum stabs and a more creeping synthetic feeling. A real box of treats!

Review: For us, there is no denying that N-Type's legendary Wheel & Deal imprint has become one of the true benchmarks for quality within dubstep, celebrating their 100th official release with a face melting compilation. Featuring an array of top class guests, including Solidstates & Riko Dan, Roklem & Sebalo, Sepia, Lost, Grawinkel and more, this jumps straight into the top dubstep drops of the year category for us. With so many heavy hitting originals featured across this 22 track landscape, it's hard to pick our highlights, but the sumptuous sub & drift work of Kampah's 'Ryder' and the system-smashing bass notation of 'Chained' from Azotix would be the two immediate front runners. Congratulations to N Type and all involved on such an awesome achievement.

Review: Two things in life are guaranteed, Critical Music remaining as consistent as ever and Hyroglifics continuing to push the boundaries further than ever though sonically possible. This latest album sees a truly vibrant collection put on display, exploring the farthest stretching reaches of the Hyroglifics sound, from the thumping half-time sweeps of 'Sing To It' alongside Nah Eeto's crispy vocal display, to the sub-smashing LFO crunches of 'Juggin' and more party-driven atmospherics of 'Late Ones'. We see a number of additional vocal appearances across the project, with Yeo Limone, Black Josh, Lyza Jade and Fuex all delivering unique and inspiring performances. With such a wide array of sonic mastery on display, it's difficult to pick favourites, but the sharpened synthesiser twangs of 'Burnt Tongues' and roller-inspired rumbles of 'You Got It' would be two immediate standouts.

Review: Over the course of 2023, there is no denying that Incurzion Audio were one of the most impressive imprints out there, with a fantastic focus on unveiling a wide range of new dubstep talent. This time around, they commence the year with a heavyweight compilation drop, inviting 30 artists inside for the fourth edition of their 'We Are Incurzion' series. From the epic soundscaping of Gendo's 'Marble Elephant' to the emotive synth melodies of Lokal's 'Flatline' and more minimal percussive clicks of 'Ballistic' from Undercentrum & UMBRA, we get a fantastic array of electronic sounds to enjoy. For us, the two standouts include both the stomach-turning sub crunches of RWB's 'Vask Des Na' and of course the mind-melting acidity of Eth:er's monstrous 'Requiem' original. Awesome work across the board!

Review: It's an exciting time for the Locus sound crew, who have once again delivered a fabulous box of goodies with this weighty new collection from 11th Hour, focussing on three heavyweight dubstep rollers, stuffed to the brim with futuristic subby goodness. We open up with 'Foolish', over which we hear a combination of gritty vocal displays and thumping marching subs, before the heavily bitcrushed sound design of 'Takeover' then takes us into a slightly more abstract chamber. From here, we then move into a killer finale in 'Levitation', a murky fusion of silky synthesiser slides and gritty bass notation, all tied together with some serious eerie atmospheric work, rounding off an awesome project in style.

Review: As always with a brand new Deep Dark & Dangerous compilation drop, the team are on absolute fire as they summon the great and good of the dubstep scene together for a frankly outstanding original collection. Celebrating their 100th official release, they impressed with the team sheet from the jump, inviting the likes of Truth, Youngsta, NType, Hypho, Cartridge, Oxossi and a bag of more heavyweight headliners to match. The whole project is stacked, featuring 24 rave-inspired sizzlers, giving us the grittiest and gnarliest of what dubstep has to offer in 2022. For us, despite the overall quality level of this collection being so high, we would point out a few absolute monsters as our highlights, with the horn-driven clunks and warbling LFO switches of 'Mecha' from The Widdler & ColtCuts immediately jumping out, next to the dungeon-ready percussion of Roklem & Sebalo's 'Inner Turmoil' and the eerie melodic mastery of Leon Switch & Widow's 'Fallen Angels'.

We open up with 'I Feel Good', a fragrant title track, linking together the intense rhythms of UKG with a hard hitting slap of grizzly bass notation, topped with choppy vocal expression, before 'Surround Me' lets loose a scintillating display of electrifying synthesiser sweeps. From here 'So Damn Beat' ups the heat even further as a stripped back drum set plays host to one of the angriest basslines we've heard in years, with the popping percussive melodies and skippy rhythmic textures of 'Free Your Mind' then giving us a cosy landing zone, rounding off this very impressive body of work in serious style.

Firstly, the title track 'Lost Time', fuses exuberant LFO expressions with syncopated chord stabs and dubby horn delays, setting the tone perfectly. We then jump into 'No Cocaine', another nostalgic thrill-ride, diving through more reggae-inspired musical themes and lethal sub slides, with 'Nobody's Listening' then upping the ante with a more violent feeling around it. Review: Truth are a dubstep-driven phenomenon, there's no getting away from it, both from within their work as Deep Dark & Dangerous, but also from a production point of view. That is why the great and good of the genre have joined together in celebrating the explosive group with a heavy-hitting remix collection, allowing a blissful collection to be assembled. When we say heavy hitting, we really mean it, with the likes of Cartridge, ENiGMA Dubz, Abstract Sonance, Kodama, Taiko, Biome and more all stepping forward, with a total of 32 remixes being included at the final count. Now, if you have 139 minutes, we would of course suggest taking in this masterpiece in its full majesty, but for a quick preview of the brilliance it includes, we would recommend quick peaks at Sukh Knight's explosive 'Shire Dub' rethink, both the sub-busting sweeps of Wraz.'s and the subtle beauty of Oxossi's 'Scarecrow' overhauls, and of course Boylan's gut puncher of a remix of 'Strange Dreams'. Exceptional work!

Review: Whenever the name 'Joker' appears in the forthcoming section, we of course know that it is going to be a special occasion, with the undeniable pioneer of UK electronic music returning to his home imprint of Kapsize for another monstrous display of melodic madness. We open up with the heavy horn lines and springing synth pumps of 'Juggernaut', an instant classic, laced with hard hitting sub action and an overall epic feel. On the flip, more classic Joker synth work as the more grimey melodies and square-wave style leads of 'S Wave' take us to a completely new zone, delivering another hard hitter for both dubstep and grime fans alike.

Oxossi - "Enrolado" - (3:14) 140 BPM
Opus - "Voice" (Mystic State remix) - (4:13) 140 BPM
Review: In all honesty, we are running out of words to describe the pure domination we are seeing from the Duploc camp, especially with their output thriving heavily in 2023's unique dubstep ecosystem. For this latest offering, they celebrate their 100th official drop with a regal arrangement of guests, including the likes of Lost, Wraz, Rugby, Ternion Sound, ENiGMA Dubz and more, all of whom have pulled out their weightiest weapons in combined celebration. If you wanted a full on display of the majesty currently at work within dubstep's deep catacombs, then look no further than this epic selection, with our favourites including the ground mulching bass melodies of Hebbe's 'The Insider', next to Mystic State's warming rework of 'Voice' from Opus, and of course Hamdi's rave-ready synth action explored within 'Immortal'. There aren't many collectives doing more than the Duploc team right now.

Hotwheel - (2:21) 140 BPM Hot
Review: The Deep Dark & Dangerous train continues to bluster forward, cascading through all in its path and delivering on its journey a continued top quality run of original dubstep flavour. This time around, we jump right into the heart of raucousness as Sling Wave firstly unloads a brain-melting clip of ammunition in 'Jabber Jaws', a title track focussing on uber-gnarly synth growls that is sure to knock your socks off. Next, 'Marrow' unloads a molten belch of grizzly synth pops, with the dramatic strings and unpredictable bass programming of 'Yeuk' in hot pursuit. Finally, Hotwheel unloads a spacious display of drippy percussion to close the EP off with a slice of something slightly different.

Seek & Move (Molokai remix) - (2:10) 135 BPM
Make You Believe (K-LONE remix) - (3:16) 140 BPM
Review: Following on from the awesome success of Yoofee's 'Seek & Move' drop, it's exciting to see that Albion Collective have linked up with the celebrated soundsmith once again, this time to unleash a monstrous collection of remixes from some of the most exciting 140 talents out there. We open up with Mystic State's volatile reload, fusing warbling sub textures with tap dancing percussion and wavy subs for a vibrant display, followed by Molokai's more abstract overhaul, focussing on bubbling percussive pops and gnarly reeses for good measure. Finally, K-Lone touches down for a bubbling rebuild of 'Make You Believe', utilising glittering arpeggios and hard hitting kick crunches to see off this project with a final splash of finesse on its closer.

Review: The Noisia remixes keep on firing out of the Vision HQ with unstoppable pace and an impressive range of styles and approaches. This fifth volume might be one of their biggest so far as contributors range from Annix to Bensley, Tsuruda to Kasra to Sorza and so many more in between. Every track is a highlight but special shouts go to the legendary Skynet for his blisteringly sci-fi take on 'Banshee', H0st's glitchy, tripped-out take on 'Diplodocus' and Molecular's tense and emotional flip of 'Bad Dreams'. Powerful scenes.

Review: The Peaky Beats team has been firing on all cylinders over the past few weeks, with this latest link up with Stones Taro showing just how much energy is being poured into the PBR imprint. We open up with 'Leeds 2 Kyoto', a chord-driven skip through choppy syncopated percussion and acidic basslines, with the more pad-focussed synth sweeps of 'Wind Power Ship' then providing some immediate contrast. After this, the breaks reign supreme as 'Karate Cat' unloads a jittering fusion of crunchy drum samples and moogy bass action, with 'Demon Dubs' then giving us a final, stripped back, LFO warbler, closing us off with a smash.

Review: It's not outlandish to suggest that a collaborative display from both Alix Perez and Headland, two of the most innovative in the game, would cause a serious riot. Across eight tracks of genuine sonic wizardry, we explore the deepest and darkest realms of electronic sound design, from the murky synthesiser players of both 'Mirage' Parts 1 & 2, alongside the earth-shattering sub squelches of 'Shuriken' and mind-numbing rhythmic approach of '1024'. It's a truly wondrous collection, pushing the boundaries of sound design to entirely new realms, with our highlights including the uniquely designed flutters of 'Coco', the gut punching subs of 'Elk's Point', the unique rhythmic jolts of 'Hellion' and of course 'The Grove' in all of it's breathy beauty.

Review: At long last, French crew Visages drop their debut album and it's a powerful blend of tempos and styles, weaved together class and murky dark sonic mastery. From the woozy, dubstep swagger of the opener 'MK Ultra' to the stunning harmonics and dreamy soul of the finale 'Gaia' by way of a whole range of emotions in between, this is an exceptional debut album that says so much over so few tracks. High five to Visages and 1985.

Review: Sneaker Social Club unveils Ivy Lab's latest offering deepening the duo's evolution from their drum and bass roots. Comprised of Gove Kidao and Jon Fogel, this Mild EP, born from a purposeful break in 2023 to experiment freely in the studio, presents a potent mix of jungle and drum and bass influences, intertwined with footwork elements and Ivy Lab's unique sound design. Tracks like "Look Away" and "N.V.T 01" showcase their knack for combining rugged bass weight with innovative production techniques, while "Kik Bak" delivers an acutely angled, pitched-up rap attack to further galvanise their radical sound.

Review: Polish talent Satl returns to Lenzman's label The North Quarter with his most accomplished and wide-armed bodies of work so far. Taking us on a trip through his influences and widescreen musical vision, the album stretches from full-on technoid D&B ('Hard Times') to bubbling, twisted funk ('Werk It') via smouldering, unclassifiable dark soul ('Ride Or Die') and dreamy breakbeats ('Standing By') With many other sides to his sound revealed throughout, this is an exceptional and very impressive album.

Review: Next up on Hypnosis, a very relevant collection of mind-bending marchers, as Pugilist arrives to deliver something truly unique across four thought-provoking originals. We firstly swim headfirst into the sonic foliage of 'Vintage', a swampy sweeper, focussing on bulbous bass crunches and eerie percussive backdrops, before the Tempa-sounding drum taps and sub warbles of 'Wistful' move smartly into the field. Next, the sharp snare twitches an ethereal pad textures of 'Be Humble' arrive with a slightly different feeling from anything on the EP so far, followed by potent closer in 'Amethyst', again seeling the nostalgic feeling that's been right at the heart of this project from start to finish.

Review: The Vision Recordings crew have once again unearthed a weighty box of gems with this new three tracker, seeing the combined powers of both Machinedrum & Holly for a dive into steppers abandon. We open up with the crunchy synth warbles and unorthodox vocal work of 'Novaform', a truly unique arrangement that packs both a subby gut punch and a midrange hook to match. Next, 'Blueshift' strips the instrumentation back a tad for a more fluttery original, focussing on emotive melodies and clicky percussion, before the sounds of 'Hide Sun' arrive for one final showdown, delivering a choppy, jungle-inspired slammer, doused in euphoric pad textures and tidy sampling for a killer final slap. Awesome work

Review: Whenever we see the incoming Wheel & Deal flag, we know to prepare ourselves for a riot as they continue on their fantastic release run, this time welcoming CONTRA inside for a special four tracker. We open up with the emotive vocal curls and carefully plucked string lines of 'Lost In The East', a serious system melter, that leads the way for the crunching bass pulses and metallic synth work of 'Levitation' to land with a splash. From here, we enter the collaboration corner, as Morning High firstly assists on the stunning melodic shudders of 'Seraphim', before The Widdler helps round the EP out in top fashion with his additional contributions to the gnarly arrangement of 'Ganja Gremlin'. A very tasty feat indeed.

Review: Next up from the After Dark Music crew, a spicy collection of dungeon-driven heat from the one they called Inertia, giving us a dreamscape-inducing mix of bass and drum. We begin with 'Set It Off' a highly intense roller, fusing huge-system driven subs with bubbling dub delays and spring like drums, before 'Runaway Dub' takes us even deeper with a stripped back, half-time whomper. Next, 'Affinity' gives us another creepy roller, focussing on clicky drums and intense synthesiser lines, before both the alien-like LFO belches of 'Counteraction' and heavily filtered sub bubbles of 'Meditate' takes us to an entirely different dimension, unleashing a serious beast to say the least.

Review: Bonjour! Monty finally delivers his debut artist album and it's an absolute gem from start to finish. Featuring the many cuts he's been teasing over the last few months ('Hardware', 'Vibin' etc) the album takes a deep dive into every sound on the young Frenchman's palette. Flexing from the gnarled 140 bubbles and bumps of 'Dreamer' (with 1985 bossman Alix Perez himself) and the spacey garage vibes of 'Walking Home' to the soulful roll of 'Birdland' (with fellow Toulousian Redeyes) and the electroid night creeping title track, this is the full Monty on levels we've never seen before. Bass music across the whole menu, it's one of those rare LPs that will both slay a club and work well in any other listening scenario. Bonsoir!
