Review: Long live team Alpha Pup, an excellently organised project that have moved onto the third edition of their epic '20/20' compilation series, exploring the most lethal reaches of underground bass music. Featuring hard hitting originals from the likes of Ivy Lab, Dismantle, Rocks FOE, Bakey and more, it's clear that the team have gone all out on this collection, with sounds ranging as wide as the hardcore inspired mysticism of 'Naananaana' from Rohaan, to the industrial techno-flavours of Ila Brugal's 'Cynical'. The whole project packs a punch, but our highlights would have to include both the intense metallic madness of Deft's 'OKURTHEEXPERT', alongside Manni Dee's monstrous 'Wet Slide' creation. Top work all around!

Review: What a coup for No Hats No Hoods! Back in the day many grime heads would have given their privates for some of these dubs. Formative grime instrumentals, these were all written ready and waiting for Tinchy Stryder, Dirty Danger and Slix's tight-fisted bars. Here we find them in all their naked glory, and they still sound slick to this day. Cuts like the woozy Japanese shuffled funk "Functions On The Low", the west coast LA meets Croydon vibes of "Lethal Injection" and the savage cage rattling of "Tings In Boots" tell one of the most honest grime narratives you'll find right now.

Review: As ever, the fire of the 1985 banner continues to blaze strong, this time welcoming the explosive sounds of HIJINX inside, delivering a scintillating four track sizzler, dripping in original electronic flavour. We open up with the slower-paced, moody sub slides of 'Danger', a gnarly initiation into HIJINX's unique take on the dubstep spectrum, followed by the earth shattering twists of 'Swarm', a serious, synth-driven slam. Next, Cesco joins the party for the slightly swampier bass notation of 'Attention', before the title track 'Macabre', gives us a moody slink through more eerie backdrops and pulsing synth stabs, closing off this masterclass in real style.

Review: Dark, militant dubstep coming sraight out of Renaissance city Florence , and we would say that Ago seems to be at the top of the Dubstep food chain. The producer returns to InnaMind Recordings with a swarm of fully-fledged dread-out fire; the bass weight is very much in place alongside the rest of their heartical bliss. "Why Won't You", the lead tune, literally steps its way through the rhythm with big power drums and echoing FX tricks, while "Flashin'" alludes to the breaks format thanks to some devious percussion work, and "Zero Shift" takes care of the sub bass fix with those huge, meandering slabs of low hertz for those looking for their bass massage. Come and get it!

Review: It's always a good day when we see new music landing from the legendary 1985 Music team, who continue to push some of the most exciting and experimental electronic sounds out there right now. This latest four track collection kicks off with founder and sonic mastermind: Alix Perez unleashing a bulbous display of gnarly steppers energy on 'VTRN', jam-packed with sliding LFO's and intricate drum designs, followed by the stuttered rhythms and delicately designed percussive layers of 'Shush' from HIJINX, which also packs a seriously bassy punch to match. The don Ebb then touches down with another chilling creation in 'Ill Rest', maneuvering horrorcore soundscapes and luminescent bass sweeps, before the sizzling reesey tones and clunky drum work of Epoch's 'Beastmode' round the EP off with some serious finesse. Exceptional work as per!

Review: Messrs Pritchard and Spacek have only just dropped a killer new album on us in the shape of 93 Million Miles and now they add more fuel to the fire of critical acclaim with this EP. Review: There are two schools of remixes; one that gently rubs the original and provides a slightly different perspective. Then there are ones that consume the original, spit it back out on the floor and start dancing up and down on it. Prescott's ace original - complete with Dynamite MC and Jah Screechy on mic duties - is included for reference, but these remixes really do take things to that famous 'next level'. Mungo Hi-Fi whizz us up on a deep, percussive tribal flex, Woz fires up his industrial strength breakbeat lasers while Gold adds some turbo-boosted rave synths. On a dubstep tip? On a massive, genre-defying remix package tip more like.

Review: Within UK dance music's expansive circles, there are few who have offered as much as Scuba over the years, who here returns to his beloved Hotflush household for a stunning new project by the name of 'In Retrograde'. Review: Proof - as if we need it - that bass music has a long, long way to go before it runs out of ideas, as here Las has created five reasons why contemporary dub still inspires, motivates and captures the imagination. The strange, trippy riff on the title track summarises this consummately, as does the rich mischievous dub bubbles of "Pirates". Further on we hit the more dancefloor aimed "Lesson" as the rich tribal rhythm paves the way for some ace vocal sample abuse and a bassline that lollops so hard it might damage your needle. "Temper" plays the perfect role of grand finale: powered by a paranoid palpitating sub bass and doubled up kicks, we're suddenly stopped in our tracks by a stunning classical piano refrain. Game changers, the lot of them.
