Review: For this latest selection of excellence from the Deep Heads movement, we are again introduced to Geode, a producer with a serious point to prove as he unleashes twelve tracks of stunning steppers quality. From the techy drum manoeuvres of 'Oblong' to unpredictable melodies of 'Phi' and high energy rhythms of 'Lark Ascending', this release packs something for any dubstep fan! For us there are two clear standouts, the first of which comes to us through the mesmeric harmonies of 'Jade', alongside the crispy minimalism of 'Ruh', in collaboration with C Tivey. Awesome work!

Review: Now many have guessed that this one has been in the works for a while, but that makes us no less excited to unveil this tasty new album projct from J:Kenzo, who returns to his home imprint of Artikal Music for 'Taygeta Code'. From start to finish, the album is a true exploration into electronic music, primarily of course focussed around 140BPM. It's got bass pressure on 'Desired State', it's got acidic originality on 'Hoodwinked', it's even got a weighty guest vocal from the legendary Flowdan who returns on Kenzo's Darkside VIP mix of 'Like A Hawk'. This is an excellent showcasing of J:Kenzo's ability within a crowded dubstep scene.

Review: Having been nominated in the category of 'Best Record Label 2019' as part of the celebrated Duploc awards, Albion Collective can safely say that they have smashed 2019 out of the water. This final release of the year sees them out in style as the rapidly rising sounds of Cartridge, also nominated in the 'Best Breakthrough Producer' lands with three tracks of explicit heat. The title track 'Cashmere' combines impactful drums with eastern influenced woodwind melodies to cook up a storm, followed by haunted plucks and grizzly sub textures of 'Antimatter' and mystic harmonies of 'Sacred Scrollz' to round out the year in style.

Review: This is an EP that oozes class from start to finish, and for us, sits pretty solidly as one of the most powerful dubstep releases of 2019 as OME lands of Simply Deep for five tracks of pure brilliance. We kick off with 'Another', a shimmering behemoth of glittering flutey tones and whirling atmospheric pads, followed by the warbling crunches of 'Way Too Far'. Next up, we face the haunting arpeggios of 'Luna Sangrante' before diving into a pair of very well designe remixes. Firstly, Busted Fingerz flips 'Another' into an apocalyptic grimey explosion, with Allone then reimagining 'Way Too Far' into a smooth hip hop roller. Awesome stuff!

Review: As one of the most consistent duo's of dubstep's 2019, we are thrilled to see Roklem and Sebalo adding another potent package to their year's discography as they here land on Instigate Recordings for four tracks of pure fire. We kick off with lethal, tripletted snare slaps of 'Stressed HDD', before we roll into the collaborations. Firstly 'Shadow Run' arrives with some dungeon-ready percussive slaps, followed by the vibrant sub rolls of 'System'. Finally, we dive down a much more steppers route as 'Attain' finishes us up in style.

Review: We are absolutely loving the direction that the legendary Alix Perez has been taking recently, driving his uniquely techy production style into the dubstep scene with fantastic results. This latest project on 1985 music is the perfect showcase of just how good it can be, kicking off with the eerie atmospheric sweeps and gnarly bass excursions of the title track 'Last Rites'. Next, the engulfing subs and classic vocal fx sampling of 'Deep Six' burst onto the scene before the stripped back bass tones and impactful reverberations of 'Spooked' touch down. The project is rounded off with a dive into 'Melodrama', a track teetering with emotive energy and rolling sub tones, driven by it's unique, Burial-like lead vocal line.

Review: As ever with the Duploc team, they have assembled an EP of pure quality as they invite a cohort of their finest into the fray for the second chapter of 'Duploc Selects'. From the off highlights include the regal horn tones and catchy melodies of 'Cumulus' from Cartridge, before the gnarly bass tones and crispy drum slaps of 'What Are You Saying' land, courtesy of Dalek One. Drumterror also combines sharp drums and chiming patterns in 'Mineral' before Feonix fuses experimental drum arrangements and super-deep sub pressure on 'Lost & Direct', with the glitchy plucks and wavy leads of Ghostek's 'Seek War' putting the icing on the cake. A very strong selection indeed.

We have one of a line up on the table as we see names such as G Roots, Frenk Dublin, Blind Prophet, Adam Prescott and more throw us contributions as rootsy flavours are given a 2019 face lift. There are some clear standouts from this work, despite all sixteen tracks being absolute show stoppers, including 6Blocc & General Jah Mikey's system-ready stomper 'Too Rude' and the euphoric horn manoeuvres of 'Enchanted Dub' from Halcyonic, G Roots, Digid & Vale. The whole project is excellent, and we are super stoked to have it available here at Juno Download.

Review: The dubstep scene is looking as healthy as it has ever been as we draw towards the end of 2019, with high end releases such as this one from Subaltern dropping every week. They invite Ill K into the blend, who supplies us with four original heaters, kicking off the project with the breakbeat-steppers hybrid sounds within 'Warp 6'. This is then chased up quicktime by the big room drum smashes and colourful percussive influence of 'Mirage' before Chad Dubz touches down on collaboration duty across the dungeon-fueled sound design of 'Ninja Technique. Finally, 'Walking Home' sees Koobas enter the project as we are driven down a nostalgic, hardcore avenue.

When we then learnt it was to be featured on Sentry, our expectations tripled, and boy does Cimm deliver! The project takes the name 'Unknown Caller!!' and is a perfect embodiment of what today's deep dubstep scene represents, from the irresistible sub pressures of 'The Corner' alongside Rider Shafique to eastern-dub hybrids of 'Blue Sapphire' and lower tempo bass quakes of 'I Am Jack Travis'. The collaborations are fruitful on this one, as Cimm also invites Youngsta, Mr K, SGT Pokes, Riko Dan and Animai to take part in what is undoubtedly one of the strongest dubstep projects of the year.

Review: It is clear that the Duploc team intend to keep the energy levels as high as they did throughout 2019 here as they unveil a tasty two tracker from Sam Cosmic to get the year off to a flying start. We begin this one with a dive into the groovy manoeuvres and catchy melodic structures of 'Cooled', which utilizes an unusual squeaky lead synth instrument with great results. On the flipside we then take in 'Steam', a proper colourful piece of dubstep production, with synth designs alternating between emboldened bass LFO's and eski-style square glides, providing incredible contrast within the tune from start to finish. Excellent stuff on these two.

He here brings in Sumgii who provides five sumptuous scorchers, kicking off with the subtle synth drives of 'Absurd' and spacey percussive lines of 'Chunks'. The synthesizers arrive in force on the next one as 'Skanker' showcases some post-purple soundscaping, followed by the grizzly dubstep subs of 'Dark Side Burns' before we round up on 'Wollop', which packs a serious spooky punch.

Review: It looks like Locus Sound have done it again as they here present us with a stunning selection from SBK, a producer who is starting to turn heads wherever he goes with his super impactful steppers originals. We can hear a distinct eastern theme running through the heart of this one, kicking off with the eerie string work and distant percussive sprinklings of 'We Are From The Desert', featuring Ourman. Next up, we land amidst the heavy horn stabs and grizzly bass synthesizers of '3 Million Stones', before finding ourselves doused in heat as the warbling bass wriggles of 'Inferno' usher forth. Review: The Gourmet Beats team have had another fantastic year in our eyes, with some incredible EP's landing on their platform, propelling them to the top of the food chain. This latest four track extravaganza from Ternion Sound is a perfect example of the quality levels we are talking about as we kick off with the dusty vocal sampling and lethal bass chops of '5778'. Next, 'Limbo' arrives with a bag of groovy energy and smooth synthy bliss before 'Ukandu Ikandu' utilizes some extremely creative rhythmic delays for a really original creation. Finally, the warbling subs of 'Sound The Alarm' put the finishing touches on an excellent body of work.

Review: As ever with the now legendary Artikal Music imprint, we are gifted a fantastic four track selection, courtesy of the dubwise divisings of Sabab. We kick off with the title track 'Guidance', which perfectly combines classic rootsy vocals with dungeon-ready drum smacks and earthy subs for a real heavy hitter. The bass tones continue to play vital roles as the shimmering low-end of 'Youthman Dub' and more explosive synthesizer rays of 'Harmonic Dissonance' come next. Finally, all hell is let loose on the tearout bass instrumentation of 'Dutty Babylon' which sees the project span the full breadth of the dubstep banner.

Review: It's been a superb year for Crucial Recordings, who continue to push fresh and original dubstep music, almost weekly at this point. They here invite Sleeper to do what he does best across four hard hitting steppers stompers, with the creepy textures and wibbling bass tones of 'Shudda' landing first. The distorted delights and dubwise drum devices of the title track 'Militant Focus' follows in style, before the shimmering LFO's and heavily reverberated rhythms of 'Franklyn' join the party. We found off 'Fish Tea', a more subtle roller, tying this one up nicely.

Review: Dub Sector have been running riot of late, and this latest compilation from them shows just how crazy it's been, as they bring us thirteen of their finest heaters from the last 12 months, all bundled together into one weighty batch. We hear some absolute dirt from heavyweight names such as Dalek One, Rez and The Widdler, along with some seriously naughty selections from the likes of Kwizma with his sub heavy 'Gravitation' original, and JWiRE's big room smasher 'Amen Ra'. For us, the steaming low end of Lory Kong's 'My House' renders it a serious highlight, along with the colourful bass synths of 'SpaceJail's 'Interstellar'.

Frictions (Moresounds remix) - (5:07) 140 BPM
Review: As far as dubstep veterans go, Von D holds a special place in steppers history, with a long run of 140 classics under his belt. He here offers two of his more hard hitting recent originals up for remix duty and the combination of Hypho and Moresounds simply could not resist getting involved. Firstly, we hear Hypho's potent rethink of 'Hardcore Dub Music', which alongside featuring some tidy vocal work from Rider Shafique, packs a real classic steppers punch. Following this, we hear Moresounds rebuild 'Frictions' into a more march-ready roller, providing a perfect secret weapon to mash up the dance.

Review: Who says smoking stunts your growth? Look at Smoking Sessions; 10 years in the game and never been bigger. Inhabiting that fertile axis between dub, garage, electronica and dubstep, its roster features some of the most innovative names in bass music such as Djrum, Geode, Synkro. Here we hit some selected cuts from the full 14-track anniversary album. Ranging from beautiful new moments such as Geode's mystic string-melting stepper "Ishikari" to out-and-out cult label anthems such as Synkro's perennial "Don't Know" and Djrum's measured and meditative "Plead With Me", this immaculate collection represents the label's distinctive and striking remit and sets us up for the next 10 smoky years. Spark up.

Review: Uprise Audio are a label we can always rely on to bring us some serious dubstep flavour, a task in which they have held their own for the entire year. This latest two track pairing from 11th Hour is a perfect example of the sound the label are proud to represent, with 'Hyperspace' kicking us off with some stunning sub work and drum design as the A-side. On the flip to this we are given 'Bravo Zulu', a more marching style of composition, built to cause somewhat of a ruckus in the dance with it's hard hitting sub line and sharp snare delays. Lovely stuff!

Review: Whenever we see the Uprise Audio name flickering into action within the store, we know we are guaranteed a treat or two. We aren't disappointed as they welcome in Asylum for two original heaters, kicking off with the fluttering arpeggios and grizzly bass tones of the title track 'Green Rolex'. On the flipside, the party steps up a gear as we are introduced to an array of vibrant bass synthesizer curls and haunted atmospheric design on 'Micro Dose', providing an excellent contrast to the A-side and rounding up an excellent double drop.

Review: Despite the fact that traditionally, winter remains somewhat of a slumberous period for the electronic music industry, the Deep Dark & Dangerous contingent spare no time getting back to what they do best, which is releasing heavyweight dubstep flavour. They here invite Coltcuts inside to deliver two tracks of pure fire, kicking off with the warbling electronic bass drives of 'Thank The Lord', which possesses a pretty damned demonic feeling throughout. On the flip side, '100% Herb' gives us something very different as twisted, mystic melodic structures writhe uncontrollably amidst sharp, whipping drum slaps and eerie atmospheric design. Excellent work!

Review: As ever, Crucial Recordings have supplied us with a box of serious ammunition here as they invite in the unbeatable duo of Glume & Phossa for three tracks of pure steppers bliss. The first original takes the name 'Opal' and stars the title track for the project, working together smooth horn tones and stunning drumwork. This is then followed in style as the gritty bass stutters and to put it frankly, stunning orchestration of 'Feral', fusing together colourful melodics with hard hitting sub sections. Finally, we finish up with the skeletal drum structures and hypnotic bass pumps of 'Ruins', tying up a stunning three track selection.

Review: It seems as though the Encrypted Audio team are looking to continue the run of good form that saw them through the breadth of 2019 as they kick off the new year with this swamp-ready EP from Manta. On the A-side we are gifted 'It Lurks', a proper spooky little warbler which provides an unassailable wonk between its unorthodox drum claps and moogy bass grooves. On the flip, 'Zealot' continues the murky theme, this time taking a more stuttered rhythmic approach, packing some serious sub energy below!

We kick off with a potent collaboration with BeatBoss champion Rakjay, who delivers some wicked vocal leads on the moody 'Round Ere', followed by the eerie bass tonality of 'Yinliao'. Next, Rakjay returns again on vocal duty, bringing poetic twists above a fantastic arrangement of subtle sub expansions and rolling drumwork on 'Graft', which is chased up by the crunchy tech infused breaks of 'Module', rounding this one up in style.

Review: Despite having a moniker which sounds like an all-female pop outfit from the 90s, you'll be glad to hear that Girl Unit, is, in fact, nothing of the sort. A house aficionado of the highest calibre, the South London based producer blends elements of UK funky, 2-step, house, garage, Chicago juke and shades of dubstep with an iconoclastic irreverence for genre boundaries. Appearing on Bok-Bok and L-Vis 1990's label, Night Slugs, the I.R.L EP marks the third release for the burgeoning young imprint, which was established earlier this year. The EP - incidentally one of the most hotly tipped records around at the moment - begins with the title track. A dramatic, cinematic intro (rather reminiscent of D&B producer Rockwell's "Noir") initiates the proceedings with a thumping statement of intent and screechy, sliding synth embellishments. A hollow, clip-clop beat underpins the track, moving from dark, moody moments to more mellow, Mount Kimbie-style sections with masterful ease. DVA takes things down a tougher, rougher street with the tapping, grinding synthetics and raw industrial edge of his 'Hi Emotions' remix, whereas Young Gunz crew member, French Fries tunes in to a funky vibe, with shuffling rhythms, a nod to soca and lashings of sun-drenched tropical exoticism.

This last project of the year sees them firing on all sides as they invite eight of their best in for 'Deep Dub Inside 2019', a comprehensive showcase of the labels sound, featuring potent originals from the likes of Arta, Tinky, Muhla, Kismat, Cel and Ran for starters. We have two clear highlights for this one, with the gnarly sub work of Takjacob's 'Can't Own Me' being a real heavy hitter, along with the spooky overtones of Copley's 'Bombay Bad Boy'. They have come to kickstart the year in style here as they invite MungK in for three tasty originals, kicking off with the shifting harmonies of catchy string leads of 'Kabuki'. Review: At this point, Bunzer0 has to hold some seriously legendary status as the dubstep veteran lands on Indigo Movement for two tracks of pure heat. We begin our examination of this one with a dive into 'Inbreeding', a piece of percussive masterty, with the melodies being providing by subtle drum taps above pulsating sub drives below. Following this, we then move into 'Accuracy', an unpredictable display of highly skilled production techniques, fusing dubstep and the unknown, leaving the listener blown away with every sub slap. Awesome stuff!

Review: The Tormented Audio which is headed up by Dubzta have outdone themselves on this one as they bring forward Kali to unveil four tracks of devastating heat. The title track goes by the name of 'Loco' and is an emotive trappy roller, packed to the brim with colourful, chiming melodies and uplifting harmonies. From here 'Specialist' takes over with a bag of dubwise elements, before we land on the scratchy, more expansive dubstep stylings of 'Altercations' are let loose. Finally, we finish up the project with Dubzta appearing in collaboration mode on 'Rapidly', rounding up this one nicely with some expansive 140 goodness.

Review: When we see new releases land in the store, we like to explore the names aren't as familiar with first, which is why we instantly fell in love with this latest drop from the Vantage crew. We kick this one off with the trap-like drum rolls and bubbling 808 bass tones of 'Days End' before 'Don't Sleep' combines unusual digital signals with more bassy goodness. We dive down a smoother avenue next as 'Quelle Vie' showcases some excellent melodic sampling, before we touch down on the chilled out harmonies and lingering bass textures of 'Persan Beaumont' to wrap this one up.
