Review: Over the years, Joey Negro has delivered compilations focusing on a wide range of styles and sub-genres, including soulful disco, Italo-house, early U.S disco-rap, and Washington D.C go-go. Now he's turned his attention to electro, the style that did more than any other to inspire Britain's first wave of DJs and dance music producers. This "personal collection" contains a mixture of stone-cold scene classics - Aleem's Leroy Burgess-fronted "Release Yourself", Hashim's scene anthem "Al Naayafiysh (The Soul)" and Dwayne Omar's P-funk influenced "This Party's Jam Packed" - alongside deeper selections such as Kosmic Light Force's brilliant - and hard to find - L.A electrofunk classic "Mysterious Waves", and The Russell Brothers thrillingly intergalactic "The Party Scene".

Review: With records for Ovum, Pets Recordings and REKIDS of late, Mathias Kaden's quintessential festival sound makes it back to Radio Slave's label following last year's Liberate Drums EP. Delving into synthy, dub techno territory with "Substance" (DJ Pete we hope you're watching), the rest of the record finds itself rooted in classic strands of bigger room Detroit techno and European minimalism, alongside a touch of electro and industrial synth wave in "Control Your Mind" - thinned down and stripped back by Marcel Dettmann's remix. Littered with tougher elements of rave and banging tech house alongside solid bassline progressions in "Conviction" and "Anticipation" too, Mathias Kaden helps us remember what it's going to be like when festivals resume once more. Downloaded for Richie Hawtin!

Review: Anthony Rother's music has always sounded futuristic, so it's not surprising that this release sounds like it came from another time. However, instead of the robust electro drums that Rother's music is usually based on, the title track is underpinned by a stripped back techno arrangement. Despite this slightly different approach than usual, it still gives him the opportunity to deliver his signature robo-vocals and austere, frosty synths. On "Super Future Metropolis", the storied German producer delivers a tantalisingly different approach, with a pile driving rhythm populated by abstract tones, while "The Message" is an epic synth workout, featuring those distinctive vocoder vocals.

Ground Control/Last Communication
Ground Control - (11:26) 128 BPM Hot
Last Communication - (11:43) 105 BPM
Review: The first Radio Slave material of 2019 also marks the start of a new chapter for Rekids, as it kick starts the Stranger In The Night sub-label. A vehicle designed solely for releases by label owner Radio Slave, Fred P, Anthony Rother and King Britt, it gets off to a great start with "Ground Control". Unlike much of Edwards' work, this is a dramatic, musical affair with dramatic synth stabs and tonal builds underpinned by a grungy bass and a loose, stepping groove. It comes across like Radio Slave's take on Underground Resistance. "Last Communication" is also atypical of the Radio Slave sound, with widescreen synths and woodwind unraveling over a stop-start groove.

Review: Sebo K has always had a knack of crafting emotive house and techno, so it's no real surprise that his latest release is shot through with atmospheric sensibilities. This aesthetic is audible from the get-go: "Nebula" is led by a tripped out acid line, but it's the booming hardcore bass and the jazzy keys that really push the listener back to a more carefree time in electronic music's recent past. On the reflective "Sous Les Etoiles", the German producer goes deeper again as wispy synth lines and ghostly melodies showcase his expertise. The title track sees Sebo map out a new direction thanks to the use of crisp break beats - albeit coated in soft focus melodies - while "Pink Moon" concludes the release again with breathy, effervescent sounds.

Review: The producer responsible for this remarkable EP, Shuttle, is somewhat unbelievably, Nathan Donmoyer - drummer in indie act Passion Pit. Despite his hailing from Southern Maryland, the chief influence here appears to be vintage UK rave. Title-track "Halo" is a euphoric/melancholic anthem reminiscent of such early Prodigy tunes as "Android", but with an extra, massive vocal hook from singer, Isom Innis. "Whip" is a killer slice of bleepy tropical beats that build into a dancefloor banger, while "Wake Up" is a dreamy synth-workout and "Apple" is all staccato keyboards, choppy vocals and intense, baile beats.

Review: Two years after unleashing his superb debut album on E-Beamz, Goncalo Salgado AKA Lake Haze pops up on Shall Not Fade with a similarly impressive sequel. Often immersive, dreamy and melodic, the set sees the Portuguese producer and sometime Cr?me Organization artist expertly combining elements of deep house, breakbeat, broken beat, electro and acid on a series of spacey, ear-catching cuts. This hybrid style is probably best epitomised by the bubbly slow acid number 'She Took Me To Her Favourite Club', the shuffling deep house melancholy of 'Always By Your Side' and the chunky-but-intergalactic sounding brilliance of 'Liquid Serotonin', but to be honest all eight tracks are excellent.

Review: The seemingly unstoppable rise of Helena Hauff continues apace. After previously shining on Ninja Tune's Actress-helmed Werk Discs offshoot, the Hamburg-based DJ/producer has now graduated to the parent label. As usual, there's much to enjoy throughout, from the punchy drum machine percussion, tumbling synthesizer melodies and foreboding chords of opener "Nothing Is What I Know" and thrillingly intense, end-of-days techno jam "Do You Really Think Like That", to the lo-fi, intergalactic brilliance of closer "Gift". Perhaps most impressive, though, is "Continuez Mon Enfant Vous Serez Traite En Consequence", a thrillingly wonky trip into dark, acid-fired electronica. In a word: essential.

Review: Earlier in the year, Marie Davidson signed a high-profile deal with Ninja Tune. She makes good on that contract, following a couple of killer singles with what could be her strongest album to date. After setting the tone with clandestine, tongue-in-cheek opener "Your Biggest Fan" - a creepy spoken word cut taking aim at stalker-line fans to the accompaniment of heavy analogue synth bass and creepy computer bleeps - Davidson giddily flits between elastic dancefloor workouts (the brilliantly sleazy "Work It" and mind-altering "Workaholic Paranoid Bitch"), attractive post-EBM instrumentals (the psychedelic and fizzing "Lara"), meditative ambient melodiousness ("Day Dreaming"), bizarre experimental weirdness (the suitable dystopian "The Tunnel"), and stylish analogue pop (the whispered vocals and off-kilter early morning funk of "So Right").

Review: Berlin-based Korean Peggy Gou has been surprisingly quiet since first bursting onto the scene back in 2016. Here, she returns to action having graduated from Technicolour to parent label Ninja Tune. Many may already have heard EP standout "It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)", a percussively ambidextrous beast based around a bouncy, off-skilter, snare-heavy rhythm track. It has been much discussed online after Gou included it her recent Resident Advisor podcast. Then you'll find tracks representative of her developing style, which draws together elements of European deep house, electro, early '90s U.S house, the rubbery disco eccentricity of Maurice Fulton and the instinctive polyrhythms more often found in traditional African music.

Review: In the early stages of his career, Gerry "Ejeca" McCartney was renowned for delivering deliciously rushing, glassy-eyed peak-time anthems. In recent times, he's added a few more strings to his musical bow, though he can still smash it out if he needs to. For proof, check out the opening gambit of this EP on Shall Not Fade, "BetterB", which flits between glacial, Biosphere like ambience and bustling, rave-igniting dancefloor pressure. That pressure is maintained via the acid bass-propelled, stab-happy house retro-futurism of "Never Should" and the slamming "Polar", which is sweatier than Neil Ruddock's jockstrap after five minutes on an exercise bike. Elsewhere, "Nation" is a slick and spacey slab of electro, and "Real" is a thunderous big room techno romp laden with warehouse-ready synth stabs.

Review: Following up his debut album which was released earlier this year, Warsaw-based producer Bartoz Kruczynski - better known as Earth Trax - presents his second album titled, naturally, 'LP2' on Shall Not Fade. The 15 tracks served up here are warmer and more soothing than on his last outing, but at the same time more dance oriented. From the evocative Motor City style tones of ambient house epic "After The Rain", the life-affirming slo-mo acid of "The Complete Trance Induction" and going out all guns blazing onb the end with the thunderous old school techno of "Dark River" calling to mind classic Laurent Garnier. Featured on this digital edition are four bonus remixes for you to enjoy.

Review: Bristol's Shall Not Fade presents a new DJ mix by Polish producer Bartosz Kruczynski aka Earth Trax, who just last week dropped his third LP for the label - The Sensual World. The 13-tracker saw the Warsaw-based producer prove himself as one of the most versatile and consistent producers in the game. This hour long continuous mix, however, proves his abilities behind the decks and comes also the individual tracks. Some of the highlights not limited to: the understated stomp of Trudge's emotive "When The Rain", the airy electro of Tom Vernon's "Disappear" or the ever reliable Harrison BDP taking you aboard the acid express on "Immortal", as well as the mandatory Earth Trax cuts "Trust Me" (dub mix,) "Fireflies" and "Dream Pop".

Review: Following up 2020's LP2, Bristol's Shall Not Fade presents the third full-length album by Polish producer Bartosz Kruczynski aka Earth Trax, who just last week dropped a terrific DJ mix compilation for the label. The Sensual World sees the Warsaw-based producer prove himself as one of the most versatile and consistent producers in the game across 13 diverse tracks such as: the '90s influenced euphoria of "Dream Pop", the dystopian electro beat attack of "No Doubt", as well as the cinematic rave deconstruction of "Dreams Made Flesh" and the glassy-eyed IDM of closer "Everlong" among others.

Review: Lisbon-based Goncalo Salgado aka Lake Haze returns to Shall Not Fade for his third release entitled Henosis, where he experiments with the retro, computer-love aesthetic of chiptune and video game music across 10 tracks. There's the influence of early '90s British IDM on opening cut "Xyleac", some sublime ambient works to be experienced on "Shores Of Eternal Life" or "Blue Suzuki", and deeply contemplative electro beats on the cryptically titled "so45101-51-16" and "Dith0xove" respectively.

Review: Having previously proved his mettle with a pair of albums in quick succession ((2015's "Projections" and 2016's "Love Songs: Part 2"), Archie Fairhrust AKA Romare decided to take a little longer to produce his third album for Ninja Tune. The thing is, you can tell. Full to bursting with great ideas and canny fusions of various strains of house, techno, electro and IDM style electronica, the album's nine tracks bristle with sparkling melodies, raw analogue basslines, occasional choice samples (see the bluesy "The River") and beats that demand further attention. The plentiful highlights include picturesque downtempo number "Deliverance", sleazy and rave-ready opener "Gone", cheery upbeat workout "Heaven" and quietly jazzy downbeat closer "Home".

Review: Some two years after making their breakthrough on Strictly Rhythm, Bodhi return to action via a first outing on Shall Not Fade. The Cardiff-based duo are in fine form throughout, giddily bouncing between styles without losing any of their trademark panache. bOver the course of the EP's five tracks, the Welsh twosome flits between driving, mind-altering sweatiness (stomping, psychedelic house opener 'SQU'), dreamy and spacey breakbeat (the saucer-eyed swell of 'Rounds'), sub-heavy electro (the pulsating and breathless 'Drop One'), ambient techno-meets-vintage D&B gorgeousness (the wavy synths sounds, minimalistic percussion and sampled voices of 'Solaris') and thrillingly grimy, ultra-aggressive revivalist jungle ('Junction 93'). A pleasingly varied, on-point excursion.

Review: Ejeca's previous outing on Shall Not Fade, May 2021's Free From, was an impressively eclectic but steadfastly club-focused affair that boasted far more hits than misses. This five-track follow-up is equally as impressive. The Irish producer first doffs a cap to hard house, happy hardcore and mind-mangling acid techno on the rave-igniting madness of 'Take It', before going deeper and dreamier on the breathless, trance-inducing pump of 'Away'. 'Clunk' is a killer chunk of rap-free hip-house revivalism, 'Mallusk' is a high-octane electro number smothered in alien electronics and star gazing synthesizer chords, and 'Static' is a trippy, hard-to-pigeonhole number that sounds like acid-fired ambient techno on steroids. Brilliantly breathless stuff all told.

Review: Following on from his recent Pathfinder release, Mani Festo returns to Shall Not Fade. The title track is a fast-paced electro track, powered by lead weight kicks and insistent percussion. Adding to the suspenseful feeling are the freaked-out vocals that Mani Festo weaves through the arrangement. "Grass Snake" is a driving but distinctive techno track, with Mani Festo dropping a nagging acid groove, which he augments with insistent drum breaks. "Synkron" is more intense, and sounds inspired by early Neil Landstrumm as a pounding techno rhythm is peppered with noisy analogue riffs. Rounding off the release is Addison Groove's jittery, stepping remix of the title track.
