Review: Cold Busted is the scene leader when it comes to hip-hop informed instrumentals. This latest release sees two cult producers supply one slick new jam each. The spectaculalry monikerer 80s Casual is first on the stands, rustling up "Fiesta" - which is a rich Balearic shuffle based around some hypnotic classical Spanish guitar samples. Next Yuri Petrovski presents "True" which in theory, with its sampling of Spandau Ballet's pastel -tinged hit of the same name, would be more appropriately attributed to the name 80s Casual - seeing as that was who originally danced to the tune nback in '83. A sunkissed classic nonetheless though.

Review: Po-faced disco and boogie purists should probably steer clear of this five-tracker from the Tru Funk crew. For the rest of us, there's plenty to enjoy. The action is typically floor-friendly, offering party hearty thrills with just enough purist flavour to impress. Agent 86 drops a deliciously synth-heavy stepper in the form of "Sticky Funk", while Jamie Ruz closes his eyes and lets the jazzual guitar solos flow on the soft focus boogie-soul jam "Lovers Delight". Yomakomba's "Hold You" should inspire a few "moments" on the dancefloor with its sinewy combination of '80s soul and Balearic house chug, while Trotter's "40 Degrees" is a slamming chunk of slap bass-heavy disco house.

Review: We'd argue that the Sterns Edits crew is doing the world a favour by breathing new life into the work of Afrobeat revivalists Yaaba Funk, whose two albums - released in 2010 and 2014 respectively - remain frustratingly overlooked. The cuts reworked here were originally featured on their debut, "Afrobeast". Contemporary broken beat hero Danvers steps up first, turning in a punchy, rolling revision of sun-kissed juju number "Oman Foa" that adds just the right amount of modern dancefloor clout to an otherwise perfect Afro-soul workout. Ben Gomori provides two versions of "Hwe Hwe Mu Na Yi Wompena": a spacey Afrobeat/Afro-disco style peak-time "Message of Love Edit" and the arguably superior - and certainly impressively bass-heavy - "Message of Love Live Dub".

Review: Described as coming from an imaginary tropical island somewhere between Netherlands and South-East Asia, Yin Yin is the best thing since Palto Falts reissue of Mariah's Utakata No Hibi LP. This debut album comes off the back of two singles for Les Disques Bongo Joe out of Switzerland and its instant popularity suggests it's something of a hit with Amsterdam's supremely knowledgeable diggers community. For the rest of us there is no denying the western disco touches of "Dis Ko Dis Ko", a number making great use of Donna Summer's timeless "I Feel Love" bassline alongside licks of Indie surf rock guitars. The album revels in a wild west and cosmic approach to post-punk, disco and dub. If Pulp Fiction had a sequel this would be its soundtrack.
