Review: At first glance, the pairing of Forest Hill resident Andrew Ashong and Sound Signature boss Theo Parrish would seem strange. But the duo have worked together previously with the Ghanaian born vocalist (and supposed owner of a vinyl collection that would make most record shops look like a car boot sale) lending his soulful tones to Parrish's excellent nine minute plus translation of the Hot Chip and Spiritualised affiliated About Group. Whereas that collaboration was more about Ashong's voice being just one element of a production that was undoubtedly Parrish, the three tracks present on the Flowers EP look to showcase what a talent the Londoner is. Those trademark dust filled stacatto rhythms are present in the opening title track, but they never swamp Ashong's killer vocal delivery, while "Take It Slow" is bonafide D funk of the highest order. After the brutal, divisive nature of Theo's kung fu experimentalism on the Any Other Styles EP, these three tracks show him in a wholly new light and hopefully Parrish and Ashong will be making much more music together.

Review: Po-faced disco and boogie purists should probably steer clear of this five-tracker from the Tru Funk crew. For the rest of us, there's plenty to enjoy. The action is typically floor-friendly, offering party hearty thrills with just enough purist flavour to impress. Agent 86 drops a deliciously synth-heavy stepper in the form of "Sticky Funk", while Jamie Ruz closes his eyes and lets the jazzual guitar solos flow on the soft focus boogie-soul jam "Lovers Delight". Yomakomba's "Hold You" should inspire a few "moments" on the dancefloor with its sinewy combination of '80s soul and Balearic house chug, while Trotter's "40 Degrees" is a slamming chunk of slap bass-heavy disco house.

Review: We've become accustomed to the Editorial label offering up expansive EPs packed to the rafters with tasty edits and reworks, but even by the imprint's high standards Raw Funk is rather special. It begins with a bumpin' chunk of hazy and excitable sample house courtesy of Cody Currie (the brilliant 'Aquarian Girl') and ends with some slow-motion, downtempo disco sweetness from Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee ('Slippin'); in between, you'll find a fine rearrangement of an organ-laden chunk of sweaty dancefloor soul (the Funk District's 'An Evening With El Diablo'), some slap-bass-sporting disco-funk (Matt Hughes' 'Get Down'), and a righteous trip into driving disco territory (the Owl's low-slung 'Funky Feelin').

Review: Hailing from Los Angeles, Connie Price and the Keystones is the project of multi-instrumentalist Dan Ubick (Breakestra, Madlib) with assistance from Todd M. Simon (Macy Gray, Antibalas) and lots of musician mates. They have released acclaimed hip-hop albums and have even found themselves as a backing band for Big Daddy Kane, but before all that they released an instrumental debut album, Wildflowers, back in 2004. Here now on digital format we can get to revisit the record that boasts 19 tracks with appearances from Funk Inc., Poets Of Rhythm and L.A. Carnival and it still proves to be an enthralling calling card.
