Review: Over the last few years, Martin 'Atjazz' Iveson has spent a fair amount of time mentoring Peacey, a young producer with oodles of talent. That much is proved by the rising star's expansive debut album, a superb 16-track set that combines sizzling colo cuts with a string of inspired collaborations. The Edinburgh-based artist sets his stall out via the luscious horn arrangements and immersive ambient electronics of 'Play It By Ear', before drifting between head-nodding R&B loveliness (Oveous hook-up 'Love In The Forest'), sensual and seductive, soul-flecked deep house ('Hold Me Back' with Clyde and Atjazz), mid-tempo boogie-soul ('Playground' with Rona Ray), dubby and dreamy downtempo grooves ('Last Night's Dream'), deep and techy, spoken word-sporting dancefloor workouts ('Culture Bandit' with Vanessa Hidary) and jazz-funk influenced excellence (LaRoye collab 'In The Distance').

Review: The Funk District strikes back with a brand new label that will take you deep down the rabbit hole with a mix of styles and original sounds, not to mention a global reach when it comes to talent. The very first release arrives with four outstanding mixes that combines a smoky blues flavour with laid back funk for uniquely soulful and danceable results. Mixes including a hot reworking from Italy's legendary LTJ Xperience and a smooth collaboration with Argentinian key wizard Sokur. A sumptuous, subtly disco-infused house mix completes the package with a flourish of funky guitar and languid Rhodes piano.

Review: Reel People Music's annual Soulful, Deep & Dope compilations always deliver exactly what the title promises, namely club-focused jams of the most positive, musically expansive and spiritually enriching kind. This year's edition is a particularly potent collection, with 20 tried-and-tested tracks to devour. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the tech-tinged deep house soulfulness of Mark Francis's remix of Opolopo and Angela Johnson's 'Stay This Way', and Glenn Underground's wonderfully musically expansive revision of Harold Matthews Jr and Sean McCabe's 'This Place', to the sunset-ready wonder of Matthew Brandy's 'Wish' (featuring an impeccable vocal performance by Josh Milan) and the soulful deep house brilliance of Atjazz and Shea Soul's inspired 'Home'.

Review: Armada Music 20 Years Classics pays homage to dance music's rich history and aims to educate a new generation of fans about the artists who shaped the genre. There's classics galore on this one as you'd expect, with several bangers by label chief Armin Van Burren, in addition to seminal anthems such as Joe Smooth's "Promised Land", Inner City's "Good Life" (remastered), Chez Damier's "Can You Feel It" (New York extended dub) and Olav Basoski's "Waterman" (extended mix), as well as appearances by newer artists like ANOTR, Patrick Topping and Jan Blomquist.

Review: To date, Bavarian duo Coeo has released a number of quietly impressive deep house singles on a variety of labels, including Let's Play House, Seven Music and Dabit. Back In The Days sees them return to the Toy Tonics imprint they last graced back in 2014. There's a classic disco-house-meets-contemporary deep house feel to the groovy and attractive title track, while "Jugendstil" adds hazy jazz influences to the same successful formula. The bizarrely titled "+++" throws African vocal and drum samples into the mix, combining them with bold string riffs and unfussy house beats to excellent effect. Finally, bonus track "Humbled" sees the duo return to their filter-sporting best, with the results sounding like a fusion of Soundstream and Tom Trago.

Review: Shades of Sound Recordings have turned to young French producer Harrington - a lover of deeply dreamy, emotive and nostalgic house music - for their latest release. He sets his stall out with title track 'Too Late To Dream', a gorgeously colourful and authentic tribute to late '80s Italian dream house, before Joe Morris joins the dots between Don Carlos and street soul on his accompanying remix. Breezier late '80s piano house flavours are the order of the day on 'Inner Story' and Lone Saxon's electro-break driven 'Street Rub', while 'Vision of Mind' is a tactile and smile-inducing slice of Italo-house excellence. Best of all, though is the slow-burn and ludicrously loved-up Akasha System rework of that track: a killer cut to end a genuinely superb EP.

Review: Influential and prolific, Dave Lee has been one of house music's major proponents of soulful, disco-tinged, vocal tracks. Without question, he was instrumental in its development. Produced With Love is only the second ever Joey Negro album to be released and the first for more than 20 years. It proves that dance music with character still exists and rather than rely on sampling older records, the overwhelming majority of music is newly recorded. Rest assured that there's quite the supporting cast here, on the vocal front: the late great Diane Charlemagne on "Overnight Sensation", Canadian songstress and frequent Nick Holder collaborator Sacha Williamson on "I Recognize" and the legendary Linda Clifford on "Won't Let Go". Fellow London disco dons Horsemeat Disco collaborate on "Dancing Into The Stars" too. The second half of the collection focuses on Lee's impeccable remixes and yes: there is a version of "Must Be The Music" and a track by the inimitable Peven Everett entitled "Love Is Thicker Than Water" alongside several other gems.

Review: As Miami Winter Music Conference spins around for another year so does Toolroom's affiliated compilation showcasing why Mark Night's label remains at the precipice of mainstream club music. Bringing with it two full length DJ mixes and exclusive tracks from crew like Alex Kenji, Jerome Robins and Camila Jun, there's also banging numbers from legends like Green Velvet, Nicole Moudaber and Shadow Child next to Low Steppa and Tony Romera! ESSEL kicks off the compilation with the catchy choral loops of "The Edge", with other highlights to mention across some 50 tracks coming from Martin Ikin's drippin' "Make U Sweat", CASSIM's disco-tinged "Wanna Feel Something" and Carly Wilford's "The Dance". Time to dive into Miami 2024 - Toolroom style!

Review: Professor Oz's latest release on Rezpektiva isn't your average album. It's a treasure trove of unearthed gems, a 8 tracks compilation showcasing the French producer's visionary work from 1986 to 1995. Entitled "The Lost Experiments," these previously unreleased tracks feel remarkably fresh despite their age. Remastered from the original DAT tapes, the album brims with infectious energy. Professor Oz, a self-proclaimed "sonic wizard," weaves dusty breakbeats and proto-techno grooves into a heady concoction. Tribal drumming and swirling, trance-like synths add a touch of the exotic, while the album's progressive song structures and pulsating acid basslines ensure it remains firmly rooted in dancefloor territory. These tracks prove that even decades later, Oz's forward-thinking sound and genre-bending production still feel innovative and exciting.

Review: For his latest trick, spoonerism-loving rework maestro V (AKA sometime funk-breaks producer Valique) has decided to offer up a second selection of "Neo Blues" scalpel works. He begins by delivering a chunky, rolling revision of Ann Feebles' rock-tinged gospel-funk classic "Beware", before chugging his way through a pitched-down revision of a weighty T-Rex glam-rock classic ("Jewelry"). This is followed by EP highlight "Holis", an inspired - and suitably epic - "Afro-blues" revision of one of Nina Simone's greatest moments, and the low-slung voodoo-house hypnotism of "Mississippi Lullalby (V's Rendition)". To finish with a. flourish, the Vehicle main man then adds some elastic new drums to Otis Redding's version of "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay".

Review: For as long as we can remember, Defected's annual Miami Music Week compilation has done a brilliant job showcasing tracks that we'll be dancing to a lot in the following weeks and months. Predictably, this year's volume is no different. There's the usual mixture of alternative remixes of familiar favourites from the previous 12 months (see David Penn's remix of Sophie Lloyd's gospel disco anthem "Calling Out" and I:Cube's brilliant revision of Peggy Gou's "It Makes You Forget"), previously released anthems (Horse Meat Disco and Amy Douglas's "Let's Go Dancing" and Ray Mang's delicious disco mix of Phenomenal Handclap Band's "Judge Not") and suitably big tunes that will soon become peak-time staples the world over (see the tracks by Bawrut, Low Steppa, Bsicits and Mighty Mouse).

Review: DJ Seinfeld's second album has arrived! A hugely successful artist circumnavigating the world DJ circuit, Mirrors sees Seinfeld delve into a melodic world of melancholic synths, UKG and US house associations next to blends of contemporary trance, R&B vocals and pop experimentalisms. Like some kind of neo-Four Tet, Burial and Panthu Du Prince collaboration, Mirrors embraces a sound to perhaps associate with the twilight of summer, and the nostalgic expressions that Seinfeld's keys, strings and vocals bring. It follows Seinfeld's critically acclaimed 2017 debut album - Time Spent Away From U - and his first for Ninja Tune, that sees the artist's sound reach new heights of fidelity.

Review: Following years spent flitting between labels including Toy Tonics and Razor N Tape Reserve, COEO make their bow on Shall Not Fade. In keeping with the Bristol label's approach to digital releases, it's an expansive and action-packed affair. Title track 'Planet Earth' is one of the Munich-based duo's more forthright cuts to date - a thrusting, bongo-laden techno tempo rave workout propelled forwards by an insanely good (and rubbery) electronic bassline and psychedelic acid lines aplenty - while 'Satellite Bay' sounds like a cross between early '90s synth-pop, Kraftwerk and Euro-dance. Elsewhere, 'Rush Hour' gloriously joins the dots between hip-house, vintage MK productions and the Pet Shop Boys' Relentless' album; 'Kawasaki Racing Club' combines breakbeats and early UK progressive house sounds; and 'The Stage Is Yours' is a head-nodding, midtempo acid breaks affair.

Review: Following on from their successful hook up with 2020 Vision, nu-disco heroes Crazy P have now joined forces with the Classic label (how has this not happened before?!) and here we get the "Truelight EP". Spacey retro soul balladry gives way to filthy cosmic funk on "One True Light" and "In My Hands" is nasty Padlock EP-style disco of the highest order. Hot Toddy (aka Chris Todd of Crazy P) remixes the latter into hypnotic acid and band co-founder Ron Basejam turns the former into chugging, sun-warped Balearic boogie.

Review: "Nu Groove Edits, Vol 1" pays tribute to the iconic NYC record label that has enchanted music enthusiasts for generations. This release features a curated selection of tracks expertly reimagined by contemporary industry figures and celebrated curators, putting a well-deserved spotlight on the artists who shaped Nu Groove into a cherished and influential force within the music world. At the forefront of this compilation is Rheji Burrell, the champion of the quintessential New York house sound. Alongside his twin brother Rhano, the Burrell brothers played a pivotal role in shaping and defining the signature Nu Groove sound. Under various monikers, four of which are featured here, they left an indelible mark on the label and the house music scene at large. The journey begins with Bruise, aka Christian Campbell, an underground pioneer, taking on Burrell's 'Secret Code' released under his Jazz Documents alias. This re-edit breathes new life into the track, infusing it with contemporary energy while retaining the essence of its original form. Next up, the anonymous Berlin duo Acid Jerks tackle the deep house gem 'Tech Trax Inc.' by the eponymous pseudonym. Their re-edit embraces the essence of the original track, enhancing its hypnotic qualities and taking listeners on a mesmerizing journey through pulsating rhythms and immersive soundscapes. House purist Phil Weeks works his magic on Houz' Neegroz's 'All Night Long,' featuring vocals from Quiana. Weeks' rework showcases his dedication to preserving the soulful essence of the original, infusing it with his signature touch and creating a dancefloor-ready anthem that pays homage to the roots of house music. Rounding out this diverse collection of reimagined tracks, the unstoppable production duo of Honey Dijon and Luke Solomon takes on the iconic 'APT. 2A,' originally released by Burrell as N.Y. House'n Authority. Their reimagining of this legendary piece is a celebration of the past, present, and future, encapsulating the enduring legacy of Nu Groove.

Review: Local Talk's celebration of the '90s house-inspired corners of its now vast catalogue continues, with the much admired Swedish stable serving up 12 tidy tracks from a mixture of rising stars and scene stalwarts. It begins with the tactile, sunrise-ready wonder of Sean McCabe's '6AM Dub' of his own superb 'It's My Life', and ends with the densely layered, loop-powered disco-house rush of Circulation's 'The Return (1997 Mix)'; in between, you'll find an array of highlights including Dirtytwo's 'Moody' (an on-point Mood II Swing tribute), the deep, Italo-house style colour of Willie Graff and Tuccillo's 'Sunday Morning', the vintage Kerri Chandler-esque bump of Tom Noir's 'Feel Me' and the rolling warmth of Art of Tones' 'Dirty Stories'.

Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from Alexander Chebankov AKA Sunner Soul, namely warm, woozy, tactile and picturesque cuts that combine his own production chops with elements borrowed from disco, boogie, soul and Balearic jams. 'Da Funk', his first missive of 2024, boasts four tried and tested cuts. First up is the title track, a filter-heavy slab of filter heavy disco-house which boasts nods to some of Basement Jaxx's earliest material. This is followed by the Tiger & Woods-esque boogie-house of 'Need You', a tidy (and subtly dubby) South American jazz-funk-meets-disco number ('Brazilian Rhythms') and a gorgeously dreamy slab of ambient excellence ('Deep Space').

Review: Brighter Days, a fixture in Amsterdam's nightlife since 2014, finds its essence beautifully captured in a curated compilation by resident DJs Kamma and Masalo for Rush Hour. The duo, celebrated for their positive and inclusive semi-regular party, has seamlessly translated the event's vibe into a musical journey. This compilation serves as a testament to their explorations, featuring a blend of slept-on and unreleased gems, including some of their own re-edits, while staying true to the event's sound and ethos. Much like the intimate dancing spaces Brighter Days is known for, the album presents an open-minded, club-friendly soundtrack that effortlessly connects crate-digging obscurities from various eras, fresh cuts, and unreleased tracks from local producers who have become staples on the Brighter Days dancefloors. The result is a cohesive musical experience that mirrors the spirit and diversity of this beloved Amsterdam institution.
