Review: 10 years on from its initial release, Groove Armada's contribution to the Anotherlatenight series gets a new lease of life. For those searching for deep, downtempo and vaguely Balearic fare, it's well worth a look. While Groove Armada's mix is enjoyable enough, it's the unmixed tracks that are most worthy of attention. Amongst the familiar classics (Kleer's boogie classic "Tonight", Mr Fingers' "Can You Feel It" and Metro Area's "Muira"), you'll find hot curiosities from the likes of Shuggie Otis (the decidedly acid-fried "Strawberry Letter 23"), Loose Ends ("Feel The Vibe"), Good Together (forgotten super-deep house jam "Work It Out") and Don Ray (the heady disco grooves of "Standing In The Rain").

Review: There's a reason that Midnight Riot's eponymous compilations frequently charge to the top of the Juno Download charts. Put simply, they never disappoint. This ninth installment sticks to the now tried-and-tested formula - house-friendly re-edits and originals from across the disco, boogie, soul and funk spectrum - but predictably hits the spot throughout. As usual, there's a bonus mix - this time put together by globe-trotting scalpel jockey Rayko - and tracks come from both label regulars ('80s Child, Ziggy Phunk, Chewy Funk) and an impressive array of new or unheralded talents. It's in the latter category that you'll find some of the most impressive fare - see Phil Jaimes deliciously Balearic "Nowhere To Hide" and Cosmocomics' kaleidoscopic synth-funk jam "Mary Jane" - though the standard remains pleasingly high throughout.

Review: Nu Groove Records delivers another gem with "Nu Groove Edits, Vol. 4," a compilation that breathes new life into classic tracks from the label's illustrious history. This release spotlights the artists who shaped the legendary NYC label, offering re-interpretations by leading selectors of today. It kicks off with "Tonight's The Night" by NYC favorites How & Little (The Sound Vandals), given a fresh treatment by Italian duo NiCe7. The track retains its original charm while incorporating contemporary production elements, setting the tone for the rest of the journey. N.Y. House'n Authority's seminal "APT. 2A" gets reworked by UK deep tech aficionado Hugo Massien, resulting in a deeper, more introspective version that retains the groove of the original. The collection also features a remix of The Utopia Project's "File #3" by Mak & Pasteman, showcasing their signature blend of soulful vocals and driving basslines. Review: NYC combo 79.5 are, like Midnight Magic and Escort before them, a live outfit whose trademark sound and output is shaped by the rich musical history of the city they call home. That superb sound was outlined on last year's eponymous debut album, tracks from which appear in remixed form on this must-check EP. There are two takes on previous single 'Feel Like Dancin': an extended deep house take by Malik Hendricks with added Afro-house percussion, and an impressive low-tempo chugger titled the 'Generalisation Dub'. 'B.D.F.Q' also comes in two contrasting variations: the spacey electro-meets-ghetto-house flex of the Jubilee Remix, and an extended version of FSQ's Midnight Magic style neo-disco interpretation. A percussive and joyous J Kriv house revision of 'Our Hearts Didn't Go That Way' completes a fine package.

Review: Volume 7 in the series but for once we can't really say "you should know what to expect by now" because what this compilation really goes to show is just what an eclectic and diverse camp the long-running Manchester label has become, with tracks on 'Paper Cuts #7' ranging from the near-ambient Balearica of Aniso Tropics' opener 'Apricot Memorex' to the self-explanatory synth-y stylings of La Guardia de la Luz's 'Trance Aleman de los 90s' via the uptempo strut of Jahn Solo's 'Disco'. So all we can really do is point you in the direction of some standout cuts, which for this reviewer would include D.S.D's luscious 'Just Can't Stop' and Benny Pitcher's 'Transatlantic Motion', which is like a little musical nod to the days when Paper comps were called 'Splinter'.

Review: Chinese producer Mr Ho impresses muchly with this release on his own Klasse Wrecks label. '000 Baby' in its Original form is a delightfully diverse concoction that blends ethereal synths, a haunting, lilting female vocal, drums that nod to early 90s street soul, Rastaman shouts, a big fat bassline and, as we get into the second half, lots of pleasing acid squelch. As if that wasn't enough Bristol boy Jim Coles, better known as Om Unit, then gives the track a deep drum & bass makeover that's enough to get the hairs on the back of your neck standing up and no mistake, guv'nor. Top drawer bizniss for sure.

Review: For his latest trick, spoonerism-loving rework maestro V (AKA sometime funk-breaks producer Valique) has decided to offer up a second selection of "Neo Blues" scalpel works. He begins by delivering a chunky, rolling revision of Ann Feebles' rock-tinged gospel-funk classic "Beware", before chugging his way through a pitched-down revision of a weighty T-Rex glam-rock classic ("Jewelry"). This is followed by EP highlight "Holis", an inspired - and suitably epic - "Afro-blues" revision of one of Nina Simone's greatest moments, and the low-slung voodoo-house hypnotism of "Mississippi Lullalby (V's Rendition)". To finish with a. flourish, the Vehicle main man then adds some elastic new drums to Otis Redding's version of "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay".

Review: This impressively expansive collection from experienced remixer Valique showcases some of the best downtempo and Balearic edits from his popular V's Edits series. There's certainly plenty to get the blood pumping and the juices flowing throughout, from a chugging, ten-minute take on Pink Floyd ('Brickwall') and a pleasingly squelchy take on Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams' 'Lose Yourself To Dance' (here renamed 'Lose Your Elf'), to a chunky dub-house re-imagining of Jimmy Cliff classic 'The Harder They Come' and a loopy, hypnotic, mid-tempo disco-rock revision of T-Rex ('Jewelry'). Throw in party-hearty takes on cuts from Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and the Beach Boys (an odd but impactful reimagining of 'Good Vibrations') and you have a great value compilation.

Review: Following years spent flitting between labels including Toy Tonics and Razor N Tape Reserve, COEO make their bow on Shall Not Fade. In keeping with the Bristol label's approach to digital releases, it's an expansive and action-packed affair. Title track 'Planet Earth' is one of the Munich-based duo's more forthright cuts to date - a thrusting, bongo-laden techno tempo rave workout propelled forwards by an insanely good (and rubbery) electronic bassline and psychedelic acid lines aplenty - while 'Satellite Bay' sounds like a cross between early '90s synth-pop, Kraftwerk and Euro-dance. Elsewhere, 'Rush Hour' gloriously joins the dots between hip-house, vintage MK productions and the Pet Shop Boys' Relentless' album; 'Kawasaki Racing Club' combines breakbeats and early UK progressive house sounds; and 'The Stage Is Yours' is a head-nodding, midtempo acid breaks affair.

Review: Session Victim makes another triumphant return to Delusions of Grandeur with The Intangibles EP, following some noteworthy releases on Toytonics and Rhythm Section International. In the EP's opening track, "Motivation," they team up with Ras Stimulant, a dub-wise microphone man, to create a mesmerizing and intoxicating peak-time loop jam. This track is filled to the brim with irresistible electric piano riffs, vocal snippets drenched in delay effects, jazzy embellishments, and interstellar electronics. Following is "Dromedary Twist" with some winding saxophone lines interweaved with a thick deep house groove, replete with sustained chords and improvised Rhodes motifs. Lastly, "Green Run" lowers the BPMs as the listener enters the realm of lazy, hazy, blissed-out jazzed-up beats. With their style combining live organic elements, fat floor-filling beats, the Germna's duo comes up with comprises three original tracks that traverse the spectrum of high-energy jazz disco meets techno, soulful uplifting house, and downtempo blunted beats.

Review: Laurent Garnier, Scan X, and Oliver Way's COD3 QR label remains fresh as ever with a new various artist release that brings eleven hand picked cuts from the likes of Bel Air Ltd., Tal Fussman and Jules Wells to Alex Troniq, Fanu, Voltaire, Carlos Nilmmns and Inner Ray! Lead cut "City Lights" kicks off with some deep and melancholic bassline house next to some moody techno reminiscent of early Ben Klock in "10247". "The Clap" delivers some footwork inspirations next to some spookier electro wares in "Neophile" - banging. "Pisecean" gets all breakbeat and new age in the mix alongside some warehouse techno in "Regular Disturbances" alongside some melodic 'Mathew Johnson' inspired sounds in "Old Paris". Closing out the EP is "What" - a British Murder Boys-esque slice of Middle Eastern themed gothic EBM.

Review: First released back in 2019 on Gene On Earth's then fiercely vinyl-only label, Limousine Dream, Local Fuzz hits the shops for all you digital diggers. Coming in at a solid nine-tracks large, the album remains a testament to the producer's sound - all cosmic, slightly electro with some tech house, colour and minimal. One for the Berlin dancefloor devotee, the album lands with its playful opener that sounds as if you're about to enter the artist's own hatchback for a test ride around the block. The album then takes us through a slew of mellow melodies, spaced out drums, percussion, dubby basslines and tight grooves. Bionic beats for real.

Review: Dave Lee has described this epic album, his first under the lesser-known AC Soul Symphony alias, as not only a 'labour of love', but also a tribute to the soaring string sounds and musically expansive arrangements that marked out work by original 1970s disco acts such as the Salsoul Orchestra, MFSB and Love Unlimited. Review: What we have here is the first-ever release from Lovetempo, a new solo project from Mattie Safer, who's best known as the bassist for NYC punk-funk outfit The Rapture, as well as his slo-mo stylings under the Poolside moniker. On this evidence, Lovetempo will slot in neatly between the two: less strident and attitude-y than the former but more dancefloor-oriented than the latter. Most of the EP's five original cuts sit somewhere between Balearica, indie soul and melancholy electronic pop, but it's Nick Catchdubs' stripped n' strutty, 80s-flavoured remix of 'Turnaround' that stands out to these ears.

Review: The long awaited, self titled debut album from Irish power duo Bicep is the perfect summation of their career to date. Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson have created a singular and unique album, founded on the blueprint of classic house, techno, electro and Italo disco: but all the time bearing their unique signature. The duo felt that UK institution Ninja Tune was a perfect fit for them and gave them the total freedom to express themselves artistically, describing the label's broad scope that has, in turn, helped them to thrive. They display a strong technicality and a desire to experiment, but still with a melodic touch which runs throughout the entire record. It is this approach to creativity which has allowed Bicep to establish a unique position in the industry, in the face of a crowded global dance stage.
