Review: Next up on New York City's 13th Hour is a new one by Jakub Fidos aka Subjoi out of Adelaide, who follows up some great releases on hot labels like Lost Palms and Distant Hawaii with the 'In Absentia' EP. Get ready for some contemplative house music inspired by garage breaks, Chicago basslines and glittering vocal hits. From the dusty and emotive late night mood music of "High Street" which also gets a great rework by label staple Loure later on, to the bittersweet bounce of lo-fi groove "Without You" and the mesmerising Sunday morning bliss of "I Say" closing out yet another terrific offering by this ascendant Australian producer.
Review: Inaugurating new American imprint 13th Hour Records is Subjoi, an electronic music producer from Adelaide, Australia who has had releases on Heart To Heart and House In Motion. He starts the EP with the sultry, late night deep house of "Make Me", plus the thumping and adrenalised acid jack of "Doin' Fine". Ricky Razu out of Belgium with releases under labels like Slav, Houseum and OOUkfunkyOO is closing the EP by bringing a couple of classic house inspired perspectives here - they are definitely dressed to impress. From the sultry and evocative mood lighting of "Reaching Out" (which is vocal house exactly the way you like it) or the bittersweet deepness of "Moonlight Jam" closing out the EP in delightful fashion.
