Review: Following up some killer releases for the likes of Toolroom, Sola, Elrow, Kaluki and Gorgon City, tech house duo Aaron Taylor and Charles Robinson aka PAX are back on Abode with their long overdue third EP. "Pass The Bottle" is an absolutely evocative epic that has the potential to become an anthem of sorts. Featuring a breathtaking female vocal over a tough rolling groove - this one is aimed squarely at the main room just before peak time. Second original offering "Make Me Feel" is more straight ahead and geared for those heads down moments on the dancefloor. Featuring yet another catchy vocal, this bouncy number will appeal to fans of the Hot Creations and Solid Grooves kind of sound.
Girl Put In Work (feat Sage Armstrong) - (6:43) 125 BPM
Tricky - (7:13) 124 BPM
Review: It's no surprise that Will Clarke has released on Claude Van Stroke's Dirtybird label or has shared a EP with DJ Funk. Both of these sources have had an effect on the artistic direction that he takes for Tricky; on "Girl Put In Work", Sage Armstrong's vocals come across like a murky, pitched down take on the feted ghetto producer's tones, playing out over a fuzzy, frazzled groove. The title track is just as primal; while devoid of vocals this time, it sees deliver a primal, tribal groove that drops and peaks to the sound of an insistent morse code bleep pattern.
Sonny Fodera & Alex Bohemien - "Feel The Same" - (6:49) 123 BPM
Review: Cajual Records regular Sonny Fodera has always been a prolific producer, though he seems to have taken it up another notch in 2018. By our calculations, this outing on Abode marks his tenth digital-only outing of the year. Like many of its predecessors, "The System EP" sees him join forces with other like-minded producers. Flash 89 lends a hand on title track "The System", a bustling, all-action chunk of peak-time madness that sits somewhere between classic hip-house, muscular main room fare, old Switch records and the kind of mind-bending electro house that still packs 'em in at clubs the size of warehouses. Bohemien guests on the similarly retro-futurist "Feel The Same", which includes some suitably spine-tingling piano riffs and expertly cut-up soulful vocal samples.
