Mutamento Energetico EP
Erosione - (6:21) 130 BPM Hot
Radiazione - (6:31) 130 BPM
Played by: Joseph Capriati
Review: The mysterious Oisel only has a few releases to his credit, but this debut on Oscar Mulero's Polegroup label he proves that he has mastered the art of dark club techno. "Erosione" is a dense, percussive track, supported by heavy kicks and powerful percussive blasts. It's more reduced than the usual Polegroup material but still packs a mighty punch. "Radiazione" follows a similar path. There the drums are more compressed and give off a claustrophobic feeling, but the swung rhythm and militaristic, reverberated hi-hats ensure that it is just as effective as "Erosione". We'll undoubtedly be hearing more of Oisel soon.

Wormhole EP
1987 - (5:43) 134 BPM
28064212 - (5:26) 125 BPM Hot
Review: As the title suggests, Christian Carballo aka Ruptur3 explores the darkest depths of underground techno on this EP. "1987" recreates the feeling of being blown backwards through a wind tunnel as a huge, roaring filter swooshes in over metallic percussive ticks and a bass throbs with evil intent. "28064212" sees Carballo take the tempo down but mysterious sound scapes echo around tough kicks and bursts of razor-sharp percussion. The only reference points to "28064212" are the dark techno of Italian artists like Obtane and P.God, but it's more difficult to think of any other artist who could replicate the intensity of "1987".

Acute EP
Acute - (5:38) 126 BPM
Atop - (6:07) 127 BPM Hot
Review: Ribe is a relatively new name, with just one prior release to his credit. However, listening to Acute, it is clear that his sound is very mature. The title track is based on pounding kicks, metal plated percussion and in the background the shrill shriek of a bomber delivering its payload. In contrast to this studied, almost detached approach is "Atop". Centered on a dense, stepping rhythm, the arrangement plays host to a layered, grungy riff that sounds like it summoned from the depths of Hades. Effortlessly demonstrating two very different styles, there is no doubt that we'll be hearing more from Ribe soon.

All For You
All For You - (6:30) 127 BPM
Modulation - (5:27) 135 BPM Hot
Review: Emanuel Peralta is an Argentinean producer who has taken inspiration from the classic techno of Jeff Mills and Robert Hood, but also from more contemporary artists like Exium. Having released on Warm Up, Peralta now brings his purist sound to the other Oscar Mulero label, Polegroup. The title track resounds to militaristic percussion, a rolling, linear groove and heavy, grainy drums. "Modulation" follows in a similar vein, but is more malevolent. The kicks are harder and edge towards distortion and the claps crack like thunder breaking over a mountain, against the backdrop of the leanest, meanest pulsing groove this side of Sleeparchive.

Matrix Of Life
Surface Tension - (8:17) 133 BPM Hot
Magnetic Fields - (6:30) 128 BPM
Review: Matrix is only Fetcher's second release, but it shows that he is already a highly competent techno producer. "Surface Tension" is a hammering peak time track, its slabs of visceral sound building to a screeching, shrieking crescendo over a pile-driving rhythm. It's like Robert Hood getting it on with Jay Denham's Black Nation catalogue. Meanwhile, "Magnetic Fields" sees him venture into a deeper direction. Its subsonic bleeps and tonal shifts, combined with a sleek, hypnotic pulse put him in a similar league to Sleeparchive and Sandwell District. Clearly, Oscar Mulero's A&R antenna is still as sharp as ever.

To Gain Your Own Voice
Ascent - (6:24) 125 BPM
The Drums - (7:03) 127 BPM Hot
Played by: Kessell
Review: With release on labels like Silent Season to his credit, including an album earlier this year for the Canadian imprint, Refracted makes for an unlikely candidate to pop up on one of Oscar Mulero's imprints. However, on "Ascent", the mysterious producer applies his love of drones and hypnotic tones to create a teased out, tunnelling groove. In case there was any remaining doubt about his suitability to release on Polegroup, he also delivers "The Drums". As its title suggests, it centres on relentless tribal drums and niggling percussive licks, but complimenting these elements is a rising, tranced out filter that will appeal to fans of his layered sound scapes as much as to the Mulero devotees.
