Review: The respected club that took its name from the title of a George Orwell novel has also seen its label's reputation grow. People, the third release this year on Animal Farm, sounds like a distillation of all the things the party is inspired by. There's the dark, slightly distorted kicks and grubby rhythms of the Regis-inspired "Awaken". Meanwhile on "Unite", it sounds like Koichi is teasing out a darker, more malevolent take on Sandwell District's tunneling, hypnotic sound, as horror shrieks accompany the wormhole groove. "Subversion" is also a tough track, with Koichi taking inspiration from old Richie Hawtin and Woody McBride bangers, as a menacing acid line underpins percussive pirouettes and ghostly gasps. Post Scriptum remixes "Awaken", but its swirling monotone approach sounds understated compared to the Koichi's original material.

Review: Dub techno must be one of the most over-used tropes in contemporary electronic music, but upcoming artist Tomas Rubeck provides a fine interpretation of it on FM. "FM1" sees him layer textured chords over a stepping rhythm that lurches and morphs unpredictably. "FM2" follows in a similar vein, but here the spacious, cavernous sounds are shot through with acidic undercurrents. The remixers also impress: Exium lends some extra strength to "FM1", imbuing it with tough rhythms and acid-fried riffs. Meanwhile, Quail's take on "FM2" recalls Swayzak at their most delicate and understated, with gentle melodies tinkling and a reduced rhythm playing away in the background.

Review: Bleak has put out a series of high-quality EPs for Deeply Rooted House, and now he proves his worth for fledgling label Animal Farm. "Synonym" is a dark, driving affair, its heavy percussion providing the basis for a warbling acid line. "Mynonys" on the other hand is a deep chord-driven track, with shaking percussion and evil bleeps leading the way. Animal Farm has also commissioned high-quality remixes; Deepbass turns in a stripped back take on "Synonym", Quail drops metallic riffs and a series of airy break downs to reinvent "Mynonys", and the Lamb take on the same track is a rolling, chord-heavy affair.
