Review: After a hiatus of three years, Bottin fires up the Cristalli Liquidi project for more pop-leaning Italo-disco revivalism. Bottin initially wanted people to think Cristalli Liquidi was a real band, though in truth it has always been a vehicle for the more song-focused side of his work. 'Rosso Carnale' features vocals from sometime Hoga Nord Rekords duo Deux Control, who make their presence felt on the EP opening 'Italo Mix' - a kind of mid-80s style Balearic synth-pop bubbler underpinned by Italo-disco bass and beats. The 'Mutant Version' that follows re-frames the track as a squelchy electro number with spacey deep house stabs, while Bottin's 'Fast Tape Dub' is a pitched-up, acid-flecked Italo-disco throb-job. Finally, Deux Control deliver their own dub, a hard and squelchy electro affair tailor-made for early morning dancefloors.

Review: Italian disco stalwart Bottin, a regular on labels including Bear Funk, Permanent Vacation, Nang, Whiskey Disco, Hot Elephant and Eskimo, comes to Dutch label Artifact with his latest offering 'Per Una Bambola', which can best be described as "Nang-style shimmering, 80s-inspired nu-disco, but with a Latin twist". It's served up in your choice of Extended or Radio Edit mixes, plus 'Space Bambola', which is effectively just an instrumental - but which to these ears, sans the slightly cheesy male Euro vocal, should work far better out on the floor than the other two.

Review: Some top-drawer collaborative action here, as much-loved quirky disco specialist Bottin joins up with fellow Italian scene stalwart Francisco de Bellis (Jolly Music, L.U.C.A) for some predictably eccentric but rather good tracks. Title track 'Love Life' is sleazy and sexy, with the pair adding trippy psych-rock guitars, effects-laden vocals and sparkling synth sounds to a squelchy, acid-flecked slo-mo groove, with Fernando Pulichino hook-up 'Delta Tigra' is gloriously sunny Afro-Balearic business that's as stunningly picturesque as it is hard to pigeonhole. The EP also boasts two tidy remixes: a dubby, spaced-out Italo-disco revision of 'Love Life' by Rodion, as a cheery, mood-enhancing nu-disco treatment of 'Delta Tigra' courtesy of Nang records regular Ichisan.

Review: Since launching in 2012, Cristalli Liquidi's Artifact label has found a bosom buddy in Bottin. The Italian producer is by far and away the imprint's most prolific artist, with this fine two-tracker marking his seventh appearance on the imprint. Lead cut "Respirare" is particularly good. While the raw, analogue-rich, Italo-disco style bottom end tends towards the tough and sleazy, the musical elements that sit on top of it - warm deep house chords, dream house style improvised vocal snippets and lilting melodies - are unmistakably picturesque and loved up. 'Waterland" is an altogether quirkier but no less impressive composition, with Bottin re-imagining calypso-tinged tropical disco with the aid of some cheap drum machines and all manner of cheery sounding synthesizer motifs.
