Review: Kick starting 204 in sizzling fashion, it's awesome to see Wraz. back in action for another fiery four track display, landing on the ever ready Artikal Music imprint for some heavyweight dubstep heat. Opening up with the gnarly sub growls and spacious backdrop design of 'Dreadbox', we know we are in for one hell of a ride, being following the mind-melting reese synths and choppy drum textures of 'Fiend', a marvellous display of dubwise fusion. Next, Mat The Alien joins the party for 'After Hours', a sneakier slink through mystifying melodies and high energy hi-hat combos, with 'Flex' then closing us off with vibrant breaks and moody sub booms. Awesome stuff.

Review: We always get excited to see a new Artikal Music drop, with Wraz. being the latest name to join the list and kick off his 2023 with a serious thump. We jump into the madness right from the off with this one as 'Wraith' delivers an electrifying combination of otherworldly synth sounds and gritty textures, before 'Overdrive' takes the alien feel even further with a super squelchy slap of unorthodox bass design. From here, we again up the pressure levels once again as the acidic bass pumps of 'Spooked' give us a different look at Wraz.'s character, before 'Resistance' sends out an array of sonar-like bass pulses, shaking the foundations of any system they are heard on and rounding off this very impressive collection with a low ended bang. Amazing stuff!

Review: Within the dubstep scene, it's quite hard to not view Von D as anything other than a legend, boasting an incredible back catalogue of classics. He here lands on the fantastic Artikal Music imprint for three tracks of pulsating power, kicking off with the distorted kick shells and metallic percussive presses of the title track 'Obstacles'. Following this, we dive into the incredibly gnarly drum switch ups and sizzling sub textures of 'Goat', before finishing up our voyage on 'Whatevs', a twisted combination of distorted 808 slaps and writhing reesey tones. Awesome work!

Founder J:Kenzo employed eleven professional and highly skilled architects to carefully design, build and create a handcrafted compilation full of music he admires. As J:Kenzo explains: "The tracks included were filtered through from artists that have previously released on Artikal or have some connection with myself either being played on my Rinse FM shows or live sets". Considering the quality of each and every track, only two years of fabrication to finish off this product is remarkably short. Volume One of "The Architects" reflects J:Kenzo's refined taste in dubstep and drum and bass. On the 2 x 12" record, you'll find some absolute masterpieces from amongst others D-Operation Drop, Causa, Compa, Argo, DubDiggerz and J:Kenzo himself. Review: One of Artikal's firmest faces, here we find Dutch dynamo TMSV stamping hard on the dubstep landscape without wiping so much as a speck of dirt off his kicks. "Jackhammer" lives up to its name with a pernicious percussive pattern that tattoos your inner soul, "Guillotine" slices savagely with a tense string arrangement while "Elegy" palpitates with an emotional series of chord changes and unforgiving atmospheres. Review: Kenzo's Artikal hits the big two-oh in style with Dutch drumweaver TMSV. Sitting pretty around the 165 mark (past the point of no return between dubstep and D&B), each cut rolls hard and heavily. Both versions of "Hunter" play deftly with intense layers of funky percussion: TMSV diving deep on the full speed while Jay licks low on the halftime flip. Elsewhere we're bombarded with more super-tight congas and icy textures on "Laddergoat" while "Speed" belies its title due to its anchor-like halftime dynamic. Genuinely unique, 165 is a really exciting area that's crying for more creativity like this.

Review: Can you believe it's been 18 months since Thelem last dropped a big release? Time flies and all, but he's been sorely missed... And these six tracks remind us why: "We Ain't The Same" is a barbed grime-referend battle anthem with all the vitriol you'd expect from a T-Man feature. Dig deeper for rolling titanium punches ("Get A Grip"), bulbous 8-bit bass funk ("Equippin'") and Joker-style velveteen spatial strutting ("Latched"). For added measure, Thelem also shows us how does things on a D&B flex with Enei-level iced-out D&B ("Mind Games") and a crisp, haunted Commix-style rattler ("Cascading"). Don't leave it so long next time Thelem!

Review: There are many dubstep labels who have had a very productive 2018. One of these without a doubt is Artikal Music, who have excelled in their release schedule, dropping banger after banger. This latest drop from Ternion Sound makes no exception as we kick off with the mammoth title track 'Parasite 6', which stomps forward with a bag of energy, drawn from it's super powerful synth design. We get swampy next on 'Loonz', which combines dubwise delays with punchy production, before hitting the unpredictable percussive grooves of 'The Chamber'. Finally, we finish up the selection with the glitch-driven stylings of 'Nicky P', filled to the brim with electronic energy and delightful groove pockets.

Review: Having made quite a name for himself over the past few years, Surge is back with yet another pack of dubstep-inspired delights, this time landing on the ever-ready Artikal Music imprint. We begin our journey into this selection with 'Dub Power', a percussively-driven display of bassline mastery and melodic manipulation, combining evil-harmonies to leave the hairs of the back of your neck creeping up. Next, the distant electric guitar leads and chopping drum punches of 'Reckoning' sit above powerful reesey tones before the dungeon-ready bass synths of 'Inner City' give us a superb finale. This one hits the deeper side of dubstep hard and is a wicked addition to Artikal's already impressive catalogue.

Review: As ever with Artikal Music releases, we are in for an absolute treat on this one as they invite in the forward thinking sounds of Saule for three tracks of steppers bliss. We kick off this one with the title track 'Zeroes', a high pitched warbler, reminiscent of early Clue Kid heaters, followed up by the super deep sub tones and war like drum slaps of 'Baro', already giving the EP some seriously cool contrasting points. We then move into the eerie overtones and unpredictable drum punches of 'Pistola' which boasts yet more weighty sub movements, rounding up a tight body of work.

Review: Whenever we see the Artikal imprint appear in the forthcoming releases section of the store we can't help getting a tad excited, and this latest four tracker from Sabab is the perfect example as to why. We kick off with the dungeon-ready sub warbles and dubby drum delays of 'System Skank', followed by the intense bassline LFO's and eerie, distant atmospheric pad structures of 'Piercing White Light'. The haunted feelings continue as we move forward with the spacey snare smacks and grizzly synthesizer designs of 'Fittest Of The Fittest', reminding us of early Dub Police work, with the EP then rounding out with 'Unity', a futuristic dubwise adventure, driven forward by extensive chord delays and an overall chilling feel.

Review: We know for a fact that Artikal Music is always a good place to explore the best of the latest dubstep flavour, with their recent release run being pretty outstanding to say the least. This next drop sees them invite the sounds of Sabab to the forefront, who delivers a ghostly new single by the name of 'Out Of Step'. This one combines a wicked fusion of dubwise-inspired delays and lazer drones with shuffling hi hats and grizzly subs below to give us a real systematic experience. The remix addition to this one takes us down an even swampier path however as Quasar arrives to send the track into an even wonkier state, with aquatic sounding delays and pulsating sub warbles taking this one to a completely different level.

Review: Melbourne's own Pugilist makes a spectacular return to the Artikal Music imprint with a belter of a 3 tracker, showcasing everything his sound is about. The title track "Saturn" is a dubwise experiment, focussing on smooth subs and epic delays. Review: Longstanding NoMad warrior Piezo steps up to Artikal with two game-changing deep dubstep bumpers. "Conquer" genuinely sounds like no other track in the field; cascading kicks give an elephantine weight to the lolloping groove and the bassline is allowed to run free and growl as loudly as he likes. "Space Conjectures" is more classic deep dub but there's a freshness in the drums and the placement of the bass that give it a really distinctive subverted funk sensation. Imagine if Mr Oizo made "Flat Beat" in a floatation tank, under water on heavy sedatives. This may be close to the outcome.

Review: The Italian-Bristolian has done it again: responsible for one of 2015's most inventive dubstep tracks "Conquer", Piezo has returned with two more creative, exciting and forward-thinking 140 tracks. "Sweat" is all about the big drum swing where the toms sing in harmony and the track rolls with such a funk it's impossible not to dance. "Sugar" is even sweeter thanks to its ever-mutating dub bassline and stark weeping horns that foretell a future we're not even ready for. Trust us; this one's going to pop hard.

Review: It's been a pretty crazy run from the Artikal Music team, with their recent catalogue additions looking stronger than ever, a theme that continues with this brand new selection of sizzlers from MYTHM. We dive right into the thick of it with 'Vex' as destructive synth scrapes are deployed in an unpredictable arrangement of twisted synthetic bass and vocal slices. It's one hell of an intro, followed up in style by 'Run Up', another grizzly goblin of a riddim, sweeping together tightly processed drum licks with a raucous display of bassy goodness. Finally, 'Watch Out' gives us one last dash of gnarly sound design, wrapping up a super-demonic yet incredibly pleasing selection.

Review: The Artikal team are back in business with this latest juicy drop as they welcome the ever-ready mystic state to the table with a bulbous four track selection. We open up with the jittering melodic backdrops and delicate drum designs of 'Gallows', a fearsome title track, jam-packed with gnarly bass goodness and eerie atmospherics, of course amplified by the unmistakable vocal presence of PAV4N. From here, the dubwise side of Mystic's character rises to the top as 'Understand' delivers a chord driven dip into delayed percussion and sweeping subs, before Jack-Flynn Oakley joins the party on the sizzling bass crunches and scuttling rhythms of 'Blinded'. Review: Now over the course of the last couple of years, it's safe to say that the team over at Artikal have established themselves once again as one of the most consistent dubstep labels out there. This brand new chunky two tracker from Monty and T-Man is another perfect example of that mastery on display as 'Apollo' gives us a gnarly, system-ready roller to enjoy, with T-Man's high energy vocal lines sitting perfectly atop the gritty bass designs below. Review: J:Kenzo and Mosaix's Artikal Music can be credited as having had an influential part to play in the bass years that have followed the 'post-dubstep' sound. However, this crew has always done things their own way, and they've always employed the services of artists who like to measure their success by being single-minded in their approach to the wider bass music amalgam. Markee Ledge steps into the limelight alongside FWD legend Youngsta - who should probably be seen as one of the original iterators of dubstep. "Terror" is not a revolutionary dubstep tune but it does what it does in the most effective way possible; a slow, lingering swarm of mutant bass spreads across sparse percussion shots and grey-scaled atmospherics. "Industrial", on the other hand, ups the tempo and the energy thanks to a deafening injection of sub bass and classic steppahs beats. The sort of gear you'd expect to hear at a DMZ rave...

Review: It's been a short while since we last heard from LX ONE, with this vibrant new set of steppers originals kick-starting his 2022 in style. The Artikal team have a real knack for unleashing the more dungeon-inspired side of producers, which they certainly facilitate here as 'Kevlar' sees Biome join the party from the jump for a naughty little creation, focussing on eerie atmospheric drone presses and system-busting reesey subs, launching the EP into the stratosphere from the jump. Next, the shuffling percussive switch ups and dissonant metallic stabs of 'Shift' are let loose amidst a distant sounding stringline, again adding to the haunted feel of the EP, before 'Just Flexin' unleashes a monstrous pit of slithering LFO maneuvers, rounding off the project with a sub-heavy slap of dubstep goodness.

Review: The run that the team behind the Artikal Music imprint are on is pretty phenomenal to say the least, with an almost uncomparable catalogue for 2018 already under their belts. However, they still have a gift to give as they unveil this corker of a project from LSN. The title track 'Systematic' is a crunchy ball of bass heaven, topped off by the unmatchable vocal presence of the one and only Warrior Queen. Following this, Gone sends us down an avenue of electronic grit, with 'Join Em' being a stick of dynamite in the dungeon. Rider Shafique then joins the party with his memorable vocal appearance on the dubwise expressions of 'Reality', bringing this project to a very smooth close.

Review: 2019 was without a doubt an excellent year for the Artikal Music imprint, constantly tabling exciting new projects, which always seemed to hit with a serious bang. This time around they kick off the year with the ghostly sounds of LSN, who gets us underway with the haunted vocal lifts and broken drum textures of 'A.I'. Review: The Artikal team have unearthed a worldy here as Leo Cap arrives in sizzling fashion, bringing us a multi-genre fusion of dancefloor delights. We open up with 'I Feel Good', a fragrant title track, linking together the intense rhythms of UKG with a hard hitting slap of grizzly bass notation, topped with choppy vocal expression, before 'Surround Me' lets loose a scintillating display of electrifying synthesiser sweeps. From here 'So Damn Beat' ups the heat even further as a stripped back drum set plays host to one of the angriest basslines we've heard in years, with the popping percussive melodies and skippy rhythmic textures of 'Free Your Mind' then giving us a cosy landing zone, rounding off this very impressive body of work in serious style.
