Review: Portuguese producer Alkalino has enhanced his reputation of late thanks to a series of well-regarded original productions. Having previously concentrated on edits, he now seems fully focused on making his own music. "Hot Like The Sun" is typical of his recent efforts, mixing European deep house sounds with elements inspired by "Iberican" tribal and classic US house. The package also includes a veritable sack full of reworks, of which Panaroma Groove Express's classic deep house tweak most impresses. That said, the chiming synth-marimba vibe and tactile drums of the Tonto Dub runs it close.

Review: Number three in a series whose title was self-explanatory to start with, so you should have a pretty good idea what's going on here as re-editor par excellence Alkalino makes free with 11 more nuggets from days of yore. Getting the treatment this time are Prince's '1999', Michael Jackson's 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough', Dire Straits' 'So Far Away', Rocksteady Crew's 'Hey You', Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing', King's 'Love And Pride', Visage's 'Move Up', The Smiths' 'Bigmouth Strikes Again', The Stranglers' 'Always The Sun' and a couple of unidentified cuts (one of which sounds like it might be The Human League while the other has a Front 242/Meat Beat Manifesto-like feel)... some surprising sources there for sure, but they're all handled with Alkalino's trademark aplomb so listen with open ears!

Review: Since moving to Germany, Portuguese producer Alkalino seems to have wholeheartedly embraced the world of original production. Having previously delivered a smattering of deep house tracks here and there, he finally cuts loose on his own Audaz imprint with a quartet of late night shufflers. As with previous, there's plenty of old-skool influences on show - particularly on the soul-flecked, basement-bothering highlight "Much Love" (named after his short-lived project with Alphabet City) and early Orbital flex of "Jungle Dee" - but also some heart US garage-influenced rhythms (see "To Nice") and retro-futurist riffage (check the pianos on "We Jiggle").

Review: Given that this is Audaz's 50th release (good going, given that the imprint was only launched in 2011), it seems fitting that it comes from label boss Lino Rodriguez, AKA Alkalino. The Munich-based producer has predictably gone in hard, delivering a quartet of original tracks aimed squarely at late night dancefloors. Opener "Side It Up" seemingly surges from the speakers, with flittering tech-house elements and murky vocal samples riding a wonky, bass-heavy groove. "Drumberg" sees him charge off into tech-acid territory with impressive results, while "Sparkling" sounds like vintage Orbital fused with 21st century German tech-house. Finally, he reaches for the mutant bass, horror textures and acid lines on closer "Minga", arguably the EP's standout moment.

Review: Three very different tracks here from Munich-based Portuguese producer Alkalino, coming on his own Audaz label. The clue's in the name with 'Rave Selection', as Prodigy-like toytown keyboards, big buzz bass and rave sirens bring the fuzzy nostalgia while a more contemporary-style vocal keeps us grounded in the present. 'Metal Strain' harks back to the tribal era in mid-90s NYC with relentless, pounding drums, a chunky, funky bassline and cut-up diva vox, before 'Recent Places' closes out the EP, a track that's harder to pigeonhole but that blends elements of tech-house and filter disco.

Review: More original work here from Portuguese disco don Alkalino. There are only two tracks included this time but seeing as they're both seven to eight minutes each we'll forgive him. He's in a moodier mood too this time too, with "Thebe" being a slice of acid-tinged electroclash-inspired disco with a killer psychedelic middle eight. "Pluto" explores the realms of raw and loose house as heard through a proggy punk-funk prism.

Review: More from Munich-based Lino "Alkalino" Rodriguez, who, having recently showcased his re-editing and original production skills, delivers a pair of previously unheard remixes. There's a warped, bass-heavy, techno-tinged late night feel to Rodriguez's version of Arno's "Lokalderby", with the Portuguese producer wrapping rave-influenced stabs and late night electronics around a booming, after party-friendly groove. There's a similarly murky feel about Rodriguez's version of Deep Blast & Ricco Rizzo's "Lufthans", with detached electronics and bittersweet melodies riding a shuffling, early morning groove. Both tracks seem designed to be played loud in dark German basements, somewhere around 4am.

Review: Munich-dwelling Portuguese producer Alkalino likes to switch from original productions to deftly executed scalpel edits all the time. However, lately his fingers have been doing more of their surgical ballet on old disco tracks than flicking the faders on his own tunes. Well here's something to redress the balance - "Portuguese Hustler" is an almost seven minute long, slinky afternoon pool party jazzy house joint: all soft chords, chiming piano keys and smooth, sunny vibes.

Review: Portugese edit hitman Alkalino drops two new cuts on his home label Audaz, and it seems he's in the mood for some deep and mystical house servings this time around. "Dancing With Somebody" is a true groover, a chunky dance arrangement surrounded by loopy R&B vocals, while "Dance To The House" is distinctly old-school in flavour, a mid-90's joint that has been reworked and twisted into a more contemporary disguise.

Review: Alkalino is back on his Munich-based Audaz label, with some surefire tech infused grooves. There's the adrenaline-fuelled "Depp House" kicking off the new Warp Speed EP, with its razor sharp arpeggio cutting through syncopated rhythms and roaring gospel vocals. It's a little more familiar of the Portugese producer on the druggy nu-disco of "Ventilator" combined with a minimal techno influence and awash in lush melodies. Closing it out is the seething slow burner "Reproduction" taking things down a left hand path.

There's plenty of guaranteed floor-filling material on show throughout, including a slightly pitched-down, Clavinet-sporting rework of New Order's most celebrated dancefloor anthem ('Tell Me How Do I Feel'), a trippy and druggy take on an old KLF favourite ('Mu Mu'), a sub-heavy excursion that blends bits of various classic cuts ('I Know You Wanna Do It'), a low-slung deep house treat ('Ruff N Stuff') and a dark, deliciously bass-heavy peak-time workout ('Jack Area').

Review: Audaz boss Alkalino's productions regularly flit back and forth between disco/boogie and deep house, but on this latest three-tracker we find him firmly in the latter camp. 'Hope For The Future' is quite a tuff, pacey affair, and easily identifiable thanks to its familiar Cuba Gooding Jr/Acen vocal sample and warping 90s synth hook. The squelchy 'Kohra' then takes us into the jackin' zone with a spoken male vocal that's vaguely reminiscent of Logic's Strictly Rhythm classic 'The Warning', while finally 'Gimme Some' is a dark, urgently pulsing cut with a little more of a techno kinda feel.

Audaz released the first of their 'Lolita' re-edit EPs in October 2019; by February 2021 there were 32 volumes in the series, each packing 10 tracks. Now here comes a five-track 'best of' selection credited to label boss Alkalino, who presumably is finally owning up! Reworking obscure dancefloor cuts from AKB, Detroit Emeralds (okay, that one's not so obscure), Radiance, Catherine Miller and Johnny Taylor, the EP will serve as a useful introduction to the series for anyone who's yet to become familiar, even if long-term fans will own all these tracks already.

Review: Alkalino - aka Portuguese producer Lino Polonio - serves up a three-tracker on his own Munich-based Audaz label. Audaz's catalogue spans both nu-disco and deep house, but we're firmly in the latter camp this time out, with the squelchy, synth-y 'Mariposa' itself getting the ball rolling on a Detroit-y kinda tip before 'Ricochete' takes us on a dubbed-out excursion that'll be perfect for weary 4am floors which are already locked-on and deep in the zone. Completing the EP is 'Formel', which is more uptempo and urgent in feel, with lots of electro-y glitches and bassline nods to the rave daze (think Acen or early 4 Hero).

Review: The ever reliable Alkalino returns on his esteemed Audaz label with a new offering titled the Old Memories EP. As we"ve noticed from recent relases by the Munich-based artist, there's been more of a tech house influence creeping into his work, much to impressive effect. From the hypnotic and bass-driven main room groove of "Rumble", to the sensual late night mood music of the title track - which is top shelf deep house if we do say so ourselves. Finally, he channels that dusty Berlin hip-hop influenced sound, as popularised by Max Graef and Glenn Astro, on the urban vibe of "Pizza Minelli".

Review: A fine deep tech three-tracker here from German producer Alkalino, coming on his own Audaz label. In its original form, 'Rechner Z1' is a 4am, eyes-down kinda cut that gets into a groove and stays there, its rolling backbeat married to echoing synths and assorted space/sci-fi/industral sounds. The accompanying 'Rechner Z1.1' gives the track a tribal makeover, while closer 'Try Out' is a moodier, bassier affair with just a tiny hint of acid. Bonus fun fact: the title of the EP refers to the Z1, an early German mechanical computer ('Rechner') built by one Konrad Zuse in the 1930s.

Firstly "Work That" is a killer electro house number with a gnarly buzzing bassline working with a tough rhythm groove that's reminiscent of Whirlpool Productions. The persistent "Work 'dat body" chant works a treat too. There's also "Tear The Club Up" which is more like the Alkalino we know on this deep and soulful cut with a funky bassline and just enough shuffle, add some dreamy keys combining with some sampled ghetto house vocals which strangely enough; work quite well!

Review: On this latest two-track assault, Munich-based Portuguese producer Alkalino is back in re-edit mode. This time round, he's sidestepped the usual disco, Balearic, soul and funk influences in favour of two tracks that mine the dark, dub-informed worlds of post-punk and punk-funk. He begins with "Next Phase", a deliciously heavy blend of dub-punk bass, punk-funk attitude, trippy deep house touches and an annoyingly familiar, cowbell-laden sample. "Morph" begins with dense, African-influenced tribal drums, before building into a Liquid Liquid-style percussive banger with extra voodoo. Like the A-side, it's the kind of rolling, bass-heavy builder - with additional flashes of deep house wonkiness - that should keep dancefloors going in the wee small hours.

Review: Lino Pol?nio aka Alkalino returns to his Audaz imprint to deliver this superb EP. "Mad About Kelly" is a highly distinctive track; underpinned by a clanging bass and powered by rolling drums, it sees the label owner also weave in some infectious vocal snippets over its skipping rhythm. it's like a steel-plated, turbo-charged fusion of underground techno and 2-step. On "Less", Pol?nio changes tact; the rhythm is straighter and led by tribal drums and an ominous bass, but once again, he uses a hypnotic vocal sample that intones the term 'less is more'. In the case of both tracks, this sentiment proves to be correct.

Review: By day Portugal's Alkalino is a totally on fire disco-edit dude, but night he gets up to naughtier, house-led shenanigans. This is represented in his Now That Got Your Attention series, and this third installment is probably the best yet. "Far Away" is a sublime eight-minute slice of fizzy, cosmic chug-disco a la Ajello, complete with sleazy vocals and haunted by the spectre of the Human League. "Tonight" is even better: black and velvety melancholic electro-house sprinkled with hushed female vocals and new romantic synthlines.

Review: Prolific Portuguese party pounder, Alkalino, appears to have fully released himself to house, delivering release after release of sizzling electronic jams that have little trace of his disco edit past. The New Light EP boasts two really strong productions, the slighty proggy tech-house mood enhancer "Beat Bons" and the EP highlight, "Mellow Biafra" - which is a totally cool accelerated retro housier with echoes of Ten City's famous laser-stab riffs.

Roshna - (7:54) 123 BPM
El Che - (6:55) 126 BPM Hot
Played by: Alkalino, Marcus Marr
Review: Is it disco? Is it minimal? No, it's Alkalino's latest release. Drawing on the tripped out rhythms of minimal house and the sample heavy approach of the disco/edits scene, he delivers "El Che". It's not clear whether the title is a reference to the revered Latin American revolutionary, but the shuffling rhythm and 'French Kiss'-style riffs do provide the basis for Alkalino to sample an uplifting vocal rant en espanol. Whether it's a call to arms or just the meanderings of a random Spanish speaker is unclear. On "Roshna", he veers more towards the kind of jazz-inflected sound of Cadenza, with hollowed out drums and a sonorous bass guiding the way.

Message & Meaning - (6:06) 123 BPM Hot
Glocke - (6:18) 120 BPM
Parcelas - (6:51) 126 BPM
Played by: Alkalino
Review: On this digital-only three-tracker, Portuguese-in-Munich Lino Rodriguez dusts down and reissues some overlooked cuts from the archives. Opener "Message & Meaning", first released in 2011, is one of his most potent house productions to date - a dense, hypnotic fusion of classic Iberian tribal house attitude, heavy African percussion, foreboding chords and gentle melodies. The previously unreleased "Glocke" continues on this percussive theme, with looser - but no less dense - African rhythms, early Chicago style vocal stabs and disco-friendly party atmos. Finally, the similarly unheard "Parcelas" sees Rodriguez travelling into late night tech-house territory via trippy electronics, heavy bass and wonky sound effects.

Rastafari
Rastafari - (8:16) 115 BPM
Haile Selassie - (3:08) 110 BPM Hot
Review: A very distinctive-sounding EP here from Berlin-based Portuguese producer Lino Rodrigues Polonio, better known as Alkalino, coming on his own Audaz label. 'Rastafari' is a midtempo deep house groove, long on sweeping pads and topped with a spoken Rastaman vocal, with the overall effect recalling the work of the mighty Mutabaruka. 'Haile Selassie' veers more towards leftfield electronica with its slo-mo drums and synth bleeps, and sports just a looped female "Selassie-I!" by way of a vocal. It's really the former that will be of most interest to house buyers, though 'Haile Selassie' could still find its way into longer, more adventurous sets.

Upside Down
Upside Down - (6:19) 120 BPM Hot
The Password - (5:39) 125 BPM
To Be Follow - (6:30) 128 BPM
Review: Munich-based Portuguese producer continues to move away from the re-edits with which he made his name, instead offering up regular missives of quietly impressive original productions. There's much to admire on his latest three-tracker, starting with the moody late-night house flex of "Upside Down". The track's addictive power derives mainly from a bold, faintly foreboding bassline and intricately programmed drums, though the hazy male vocal samples employed throughout also plays a significant role. Elsewhere, he updates hip-house via the tech-tinged deep house bustle of "The Password", before wrapping mind-altering electronic riffs and stabs around a booming bassline on "To Be Follow".
