Review: According to the scarce information online, Harb Allen hails from Italy and makes classic-sounding deep house. Certainly, that's what he delivers on this first outing for Alkalino's long-running Audaz label. "My Sound" combines warm, rich, typically Italian grooves - think filtered riffs, kick-heavy percussion and a jaunty bassline - with bouncy pianos and bold, early '90s motifs. There's a little more of a US garage feel to "Tribute To You", with Todd Edwards style cut-up, mangled vocals and skippy beats complimenting Allen's tasty deep house sounds. It has a little more bottom-end grunt than its' predecessor, and includes some pleasingly sparse, groove-led moments amongst the swirling chords and snappy vocal hits.

Review: Lowriot are a German 'ambient chill-step' act formed in 2011. Here we have their latest sizzling release - The Sea, a three-tracker courtesy of Audaz. The title track is a lugubrious downtempo slice of blues-house. Elsewhere "Mama" is gentle folk-beat and "Autonomy" wraps things up in synthetic sheets of brittle glitch and chimes.

Review: Should deep house with just a hint of simmering soul be your thing, this split EP from Jonas Gorke and Mem is well worth a gander. Gorke's contribution, in particular, is excellent. Entitled "December Girl", it offers 10 minutes of delicious but gorgeously simple deep house built around the sparsest of elements. There's little more than a bunch of great loops - a wonderfully evocative piano figure, a teasing female vocal sample, some snappy snares, a nagging bassline and the faintest of strings - but it works wonderfully. Mem's "We've Got Soul" - offered in two different mixes - is similarly simple, but boasts a much more old skool vibe.

Review: Audaz boss Alkalino's productions regularly flit back and forth between disco/boogie and deep house, but on this latest three-tracker we find him firmly in the latter camp. 'Hope For The Future' is quite a tuff, pacey affair, and easily identifiable thanks to its familiar Cuba Gooding Jr/Acen vocal sample and warping 90s synth hook. The squelchy 'Kohra' then takes us into the jackin' zone with a spoken male vocal that's vaguely reminiscent of Logic's Strictly Rhythm classic 'The Warning', while finally 'Gimme Some' is a dark, urgently pulsing cut with a little more of a techno kinda feel.

Review: Number three in a series whose title was self-explanatory to start with, so you should have a pretty good idea what's going on here as re-editor par excellence Alkalino makes free with 11 more nuggets from days of yore. Getting the treatment this time are Prince's '1999', Michael Jackson's 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough', Dire Straits' 'So Far Away', Rocksteady Crew's 'Hey You', Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing', King's 'Love And Pride', Visage's 'Move Up', The Smiths' 'Bigmouth Strikes Again', The Stranglers' 'Always The Sun' and a couple of unidentified cuts (one of which sounds like it might be The Human League while the other has a Front 242/Meat Beat Manifesto-like feel)... some surprising sources there for sure, but they're all handled with Alkalino's trademark aplomb so listen with open ears!

Review: Portuguese producer Alkalino has enhanced his reputation of late thanks to a series of well-regarded original productions. Having previously concentrated on edits, he now seems fully focused on making his own music. "Hot Like The Sun" is typical of his recent efforts, mixing European deep house sounds with elements inspired by "Iberican" tribal and classic US house. The package also includes a veritable sack full of reworks, of which Panaroma Groove Express's classic deep house tweak most impresses. That said, the chiming synth-marimba vibe and tactile drums of the Tonto Dub runs it close.

Review: Portugese producer and vocalist Yellow is a self-proclaimed "dancefloor addict". Since releasing her debut album, Wings, in 2012, she's been on a mission to turn her tracks into dancefloor gold. Here, she unveils two more club-friendly tweaks (the first part of the Wings Remixes Series dropped last year). Fittingly, she takes centre stage, offering her own stomping progressive techno take on "Updated" - all relentless rhythms, woozy electronics and cut-off vocals. Fellow Portugese producer Alkalino handles remix duties on track two, turning "Closest Friend" into a bumpin' chunk of contemporary deep house chug replete with dancing synth melodies, analogue bass and dreamy vocal samples.

Review: Munich-based prodcer Leroy Schlimm has been doing his own thing for a while now, releasing all manner of weird and wonderful cuts via his Bandcamp page. Here he pops up on Alkalino's Audaz imprint with "Even Better", a baggy, occasionally cosmic and downright groovy track. Although it rolls at a house tempo, "Even Better" makes great use of crusty guitars and a low-slung, lo-fi bassline. Throw in some decidedly cosmic electronics and an undeniably folksy female vocal, and you have something that's near impossible to pigeonhole. It is, though, rather good. Label boss Alkalino delivers a chugging, slow builder of a remix, before Londoners Mojo Filter reach for the exotic synth melodies, tumbling pianos and psychedelic grooves on their impressive rework.

Wouldn't I Be Foolish - (6:51) 107 BPM Hot
The Past - (6:16) 108 BPM
Review: Icelandic producer B.G. Baarregaard has gone from strength to strength since his arrival on the scene in 2012 with the Playboy 12" for Whiskey Disco. This Keep Slippin' EP, for Alkalino's Audaz, sees the Reykjavik native join disco edits don Rayko and Dutch producer The Legendary 1979 Orchestra in providing the label with some Italo inspired, piano driven house. The title track is arguably Baarregaard's best work to date as a cosmic whirl of baroque keys, chords and strings continuously keep the track at a euphoric height, while "Wouldn't I Be Foolish" sounds similar to the early productions of the filter-disco-turned-house sound of Melbourne producers Francis Inferno Orchestra and Tornado Wallace. "The Past" then steers the EP toward something a little more French and quirky sounding, possibly inspired by Space, as synths build, bobble, and wail on top of a burning bass arpeggio.

Review: Portuguese producer Alkalino continues to move further towards deep house territory following early excursions into disco and piano-laden Balearic house. This EP for regular home Audaz is arguably one of his strongest releases to date and features three deep, chunky and decidedly groovy cuts built around spoken word vocals and shuffling percussion. Choose between the bubbling chords and dense disco percussion of "Heavy As Stone", the retro-futurist riffage and goodtime vibes of "Distant Future", and the Italian deep house-aping "Pedal Polarity 3000". The EP also includes a fantastically jaunty boompty/swing/hip-house fusion from Mem that sounds like it's primed for peaktime plays.

Review: Alkalino is back on his Munich-based Audaz label, with some surefire tech infused grooves. There's the adrenaline-fuelled "Depp House" kicking off the new Warp Speed EP, with its razor sharp arpeggio cutting through syncopated rhythms and roaring gospel vocals. It's a little more familiar of the Portugese producer on the druggy nu-disco of "Ventilator" combined with a minimal techno influence and awash in lush melodies. Closing it out is the seething slow burner "Reproduction" taking things down a left hand path.

There's plenty of guaranteed floor-filling material on show throughout, including a slightly pitched-down, Clavinet-sporting rework of New Order's most celebrated dancefloor anthem ('Tell Me How Do I Feel'), a trippy and druggy take on an old KLF favourite ('Mu Mu'), a sub-heavy excursion that blends bits of various classic cuts ('I Know You Wanna Do It'), a low-slung deep house treat ('Ruff N Stuff') and a dark, deliciously bass-heavy peak-time workout ('Jack Area').

Review: Another week, another 10-tracker from Audaz's ever-prolific re-edit crew. The instant recognition factor is provided by '232' and '239', which rework Paul Hardcastle's '19' and Parliament's 'Chocolate City' - to devastating effect in the latter case, if perhaps slightly unnecessarily in the case of the former. The rest of the EP draws on more obscure sources, but largely coming from somewhere on the funk-disco continuum (in contrast to previous volumes that have looked to mainstream pop/rock or world music) - '237', for instance, bites Cela's 'I'm In Love' from 1979,while Modern Romance's rap-vocalled 'Can You Move' from 1981 provides the basis for '234'.

Volume 25 continues in a similar vein, with highlights including the rushing 130 BPM disco hedonism of "241", the colossal percussive builds and heavy dub-disco bass of "243" (a stripped-back, all-action revision of a leftfield NYC disco classic), the tactile wonder that is the loved-up disco niceness of "246" and the wild electric piano solos of "248", a largely instrumental revision of a breathy, sought-after disco classic that's been stripped of its' wide-eyed female lead vocal.

Hey Sucker (Alkalino remix) - (7:24) 115 BPM Hot
Review: Every so often, somebody comes along with a genius-like idea and turns some dusty gem into dancefloor gold. That's arguably the case with "Hey Sucker", a sneaky re-edit/rework of bizarre German '80s popsters Hong Kong Syndikat. The band specialized in making the sort of eccentric, off-kilter fare that could be described as 'Balearic', so it's fitting that it's their most wide-eyed moment - 1984 album track "Samba Olec" - getting the scalpel treatment. The virtual A-side sticks closely to the original, cutting, slicing and pasting in all the right places. It's the B-side - a jaunty but surprisingly subtle house re-imagining - that probably has more potential for crossover her success. Silly, but refreshingly so.

Haile Selassie - (3:08) 110 BPM Hot
Review: A very distinctive-sounding EP here from Berlin-based Portuguese producer Lino Rodrigues Polonio, better known as Alkalino, coming on his own Audaz label. 'Rastafari' is a midtempo deep house groove, long on sweeping pads and topped with a spoken Rastaman vocal, with the overall effect recalling the work of the mighty Mutabaruka. 'Haile Selassie' veers more towards leftfield electronica with its slo-mo drums and synth bleeps, and sports just a looped female "Selassie-I!" by way of a vocal. It's really the former that will be of most interest to house buyers, though 'Haile Selassie' could still find its way into longer, more adventurous sets.

Review: Since moving to Germany, Portuguese producer Alkalino seems to have wholeheartedly embraced the world of original production. Having previously delivered a smattering of deep house tracks here and there, he finally cuts loose on his own Audaz imprint with a quartet of late night shufflers. As with previous, there's plenty of old-skool influences on show - particularly on the soul-flecked, basement-bothering highlight "Much Love" (named after his short-lived project with Alphabet City) and early Orbital flex of "Jungle Dee" - but also some heart US garage-influenced rhythms (see "To Nice") and retro-futurist riffage (check the pianos on "We Jiggle").

Nicotine - (5:25) 122 BPM
Played by: Alkalino
Review: For the latest release on his fast-improving Audaz imprint, Alkalino has turned to fellow Portugese producer Pedro Faria. "What I Want" sits somewhere between fluid, deep-tech house, Crosstown Rebels-ish cocaine house (check the wonky vocal) and '90s garage revivalism - all tactile grooves, topsy-turvy melodies and distant piano riffs. Alkalino delivers a more straightforward shuffling deep house tweak, while Miguel Matoz injects some percussive energy on his remix. The most interesting track of all, though, is bonus cut "Nicotine" - a wobbly, bass-heavy trip into 21st century jazz-house that should appeal to the Hypercolour generation.

Review: Alkalino - aka Portuguese producer Lino Polonio - serves up a three-tracker on his own Munich-based Audaz label. Audaz's catalogue spans both nu-disco and deep house, but we're firmly in the latter camp this time out, with the squelchy, synth-y 'Mariposa' itself getting the ball rolling on a Detroit-y kinda tip before 'Ricochete' takes us on a dubbed-out excursion that'll be perfect for weary 4am floors which are already locked-on and deep in the zone. Completing the EP is 'Formel', which is more uptempo and urgent in feel, with lots of electro-y glitches and bassline nods to the rave daze (think Acen or early 4 Hero).

Review: The ever reliable Alkalino returns on his esteemed Audaz label with a new offering titled the Old Memories EP. As we"ve noticed from recent relases by the Munich-based artist, there's been more of a tech house influence creeping into his work, much to impressive effect. From the hypnotic and bass-driven main room groove of "Rumble", to the sensual late night mood music of the title track - which is top shelf deep house if we do say so ourselves. Finally, he channels that dusty Berlin hip-hop influenced sound, as popularised by Max Graef and Glenn Astro, on the urban vibe of "Pizza Minelli".

Try Out - (5:47) 126 BPM Hot
Review: A fine deep tech three-tracker here from German producer Alkalino, coming on his own Audaz label. In its original form, 'Rechner Z1' is a 4am, eyes-down kinda cut that gets into a groove and stays there, its rolling backbeat married to echoing synths and assorted space/sci-fi/industral sounds. The accompanying 'Rechner Z1.1' gives the track a tribal makeover, while closer 'Try Out' is a moodier, bassier affair with just a tiny hint of acid. Bonus fun fact: the title of the EP refers to the Z1, an early German mechanical computer ('Rechner') built by one Konrad Zuse in the 1930s.

Review: Listen up, cos this one's just a little bit confusing! Audaz released the first of their 'Lolita' re-edit EPs in October 2019; by February 2021 there were 32 volumes in the series, each packing 10 tracks. Now here comes a five-track 'best of' selection credited to label boss Alkalino, who presumably is finally owning up! Reworking obscure dancefloor cuts from AKB, Detroit Emeralds (okay, that one's not so obscure), Radiance, Catherine Miller and Johnny Taylor, the EP will serve as a useful introduction to the series for anyone who's yet to become familiar, even if long-term fans will own all these tracks already.

Review: These re-edit EPs from Audaz usually feature a mix of the familiar and the obscure, with forgotten disco nuggets or hidden Afro treasures nestling alongside reworkings of massive pop and rock hits. There have been volumes that kept things more resolutely underground, though, and so it is here, on a 10-track EP that seems to draw largely on late 70s/early 80s Eurodisco for inspiration. The precise source material has our disco detectives beat this time around - though the familiar-sounding jaunty piano riff that backbones '222' has been driving us mad all week - but disco- and boogie-loving floors will find much to enjoy here.

Review: Another ten more vintage nuggets get reworked by Audaz's ever-prolific Lolita. Source material this time out includes Mystic Merlin's 'Just Can't Give You Up' from 1980 ('252'), North End ft Michelle Wallace's 'Happy Days' from 1981 ('253'), Hypnotic Samba's 'Hypnotic Samba' from 1984 ('254'), Fat Larry's Band's 'Act Like You Know' from 1982 ('257') and Gazebo's 'Midnight Cocktail' from 1983 ('258', a particular standout thanks to its Rah Band-like vocal). The rest have us beat but are generally in keeping with the same early 80s Italo/disco/synth-pop theme, with a solitary excursion into Indian/psychedelic sounds on the tabla-heavy, raga-like '259'.
