Review: Edge of The Horizon, Groove Armada's first album in nearly a decade, won plenty of plaudits on its release in 2020. Since then, they've offered up a swathe of remixes of key tracks, and here drop another bumper selection of revisions. Ashley Beedle leads the way with vocal and dub mixes of 'We're Free', delivering lusciously hot, humid, string-drenched takes full to bursting with nods towards Charles Stepney, laidback disco-soul and morning-fresh pastoral soul. Fred Everything then takes over and delivers four revisions (two vocal rubs and two dubs) of James Bright hook-up 'Talk Talk'. His 'Lazy Vox' and 'Lazy Dub' versions add dreamy chords and raw acid house weight to a mid-80s, NYC style proto-house groove, while his 'Sunrise' versions plump for bouncier drums, snappier snares and dreamier electronics.

Review: In its original form, Carl Cox's 'Sand, Moon & Stars' is a simmering, shaker-heavy dancefloor treat, where sweeping strings and sparkling electronics simmer away before gloriously soaring above a tactile, shaker-heavy tech-house groove and echoing carnival percussion. It's rather good all told but this high-profile remix from Eats Everything is arguably even better. The much-loved, Bristol-based DJ/producer opts to layer fizzing electronic riffs, funky acid bass, surging strings and glassy-eyed synth sounds over a chunkier, tougher beat, with the resultant sunrise-ready roller sitting somewhere between Orbital's 'Lush 3', the stab-happy rush of Inner City and Eats Everything's own boisterous house productions. In other words, the West Country producer has somehow managed to improve an already excellent track. Bravo!

Review: Here's something to get the blood pumping and the drool flowing: a two-track collaboration between tech-house/techno heavyweight Maya Jane Coles and Italian twosome M.F.S Observatory. Opener 'Know About' is tough, chunky and funky, with fizzing synthesizer lead lines, trance-inspired arpeggio style motifs, cut-up male vocal snippets, dreamy chords and weighty, thickset bass. Impressively, 'Watch and Learn' is even heavier, with ghostly and bleeping electronics rising above a killer kick/snare-heavy rhythm track and deep, heavy sub-bass. The track sounds like it was inspired (in part at least) by turn-of-the-90s bleep techno, though it's a far funkier proposition than any of the classic cuts that emerged from that scene ('LFO', 'Testone', 'Track With No Name' etc).
