Review: There is scant information about KOLO55, but we do know that this project is fast becoming synonymous with delivering tough, purist techno. "Acrophonic" is led by skipping beats and an ominous sub-bass. Meanwhile, "La Cloche" sees KOLO55 up the tempo to focus on chiming bells and an intricate rhythm. "Relentless", with its dense chord loops and firing hi hats, wouldn't sound of place on Fachwerk. In contrast, "Unrelentless" opts for a different approach; layered in esoteric synths, it is powered by a high tempo groove. Rounding off this fine release is "Express Yourself". Its focus on a looped house groove and repetitive stabs showcases KOLO55's range and depth.
Review: Another Dimension follows on Aber's 2021 release, Liquid Pressure, and sees him drop three hard-edged tracks. "Getroit" gets the EP off to a frenetic start: powered by booming kicks and insistent percussion, it sees the Be As One boss layer dense chords over the arrangement. On the title track, Aber opts for a more stripped back approach, with a pulsating groove and frenetic hi hats making for a lean, effective track. "F**k The Policy" sees Aber follow another shift in style: featuring ponderous vocal samples, a driving rhythm and doubled up claps, this combination makes for an intense but distinctive club techno workout.
Review: Following on from a series of impactful releases on Hayes and Klockworks, VIL & Cravo drop this stunning EP for Be As One. The title track is aptly named; powered by an ominous sub-bass and featuring chopped up vocals and rolling beats, it comes across like a modern update of Kevin 'Reese' Saunderson's hardcore techno blueprint. "Sonica" and "Segundo are more contemporary sounding; high paced, shuffling drums and insistent stabs unravel over a brutal bass on the former and sped up vocals are dropped over an insistent rhythm on the latter. "Del" is even more frenetic, but it doesn't feel as pacy thanks to the use of rolling tribal drums.
