Review: Bear Fresh is a relatively new label who are beginning to make a name for themselves, and Kolly Borda is next up for a frolicking, soulful release that draws from the currents of classic liquid. 'Needs' is the standout, as some beautiful vocal work provides the finishing flourish to a deft, well thought through arrangement that sees twinkling piano touches move through sparkling synth nodes and honest drums. 'Tanzen' is equally top class with its fluttering, 80s influenced synth work, whilst 'Facto' packs the biggest bassline of the bunch, as it spasms and twirls through cyberspace in a manner reminiscent of FD. Truly lovely.

Review: For this next release package from the Bear Fresh camp, we jump into this powerful two track expanse from the one and only Crown Duels, delivering two powerful rollers for us to take in. Firstly, we dive into the dancefloor ready sounds of 'Nxt-2-U', a warm, fizzing jungle-influenced creation, alternating between chorused vocal lines and gnarly bass subs to give us a slightly eerie creation. On the flip, we hear another interesting design as 'Falling' combines hard hitting basslines with unpredictable vocal manipulations and intricate rhythmic designs with serious style. Both tracks hold a high level of individual merit but are enhanced by each other's presence on this eyebrow raising two-tracker.

Review: Bear Fresh are starting to prove, with this, their 11th release, that they are more than capable of releasing tunes which don't mess about, but which carry an air of respectability as well, music that's for the dancefloor but that doesn't sacrifice itself for that purpose. Crown Duels fits in with that trend. Arrivals is a release made up of stripped back, industrial sounds but that still actually sounds really nice, a unique two-tracker that's weighted in all the right places. Big ups.

Review: Here we have two new sizzling bass bangers from Bristol's future garage hero James Mannion. He doesn't pull any punches either, with "Come Down" featuring growling bass, ghetto beats and catchy synth riffs, and the sparse title track featuring harpsichord style melodies and a hip-house style rap. Remix-wise, PVC presents some skippy, wobbly 2-step, and Crown Duels delivering the jewel in the EPs crown - a schizophrenic, hybrid of scattered beats, stop/start rhythms, eccentric bass and, of course, that rap.

Review: The chipmunks are coming out to play on this new Bear Fresh release and they're hanging off the catchy hooks, and subsequent basslines of "Deeper" that burrow further underground by the beat once they drop. It's a fanfare of horns and devious triangle percussion on "I Need Your Love" with subtle bubbles of synths and breathy vocals giving this track as deeper disposition. These tracks are overly serious, nor are they too ironic, and they're the perfect tonic for a dancefloor hungry for garage beats, dubstep bass and housey synths.

Review: "Bring On The Trumpets" sees UK south coast producer Pelikann fusing aspects of trap with dark garage beats and dubstep basslines to create a hybrid that's so heavy you'll need to go on a diet after digesting it. Remix-wise Archive sticks on extra pounds by supersizing the bass tears and making the kicks even chunkier. "The Mask" takes more of a tech approach with a dynamic uncompromising, unrelenting rhythm, a deep space drop and twisted spoken word sample. Looking for a two-step twist? Jump on PVC's remix. Review: Bear Fresh has been unstoppable in 2014, delivering a strong run of releases covering the groovier echelons of funky through to the deeper strains of bass music. Howson's Groove debuted on the Chasing Unicorns label earlier this year and this second release, a garage-laced, bass-heavy EP of moody, stepping house tracks comes fitted with a darker Dosage remix of the spritely title-track. The EP's final track, "One", straddles the divide between both attitudes with grimy melodies offset by summery vocals.

Review: Emanating from the Midlands, Plastik Soul are a duo whose passion for everything bass-driven is starting to result in some serious releases creeping onto the UK's cooler dancefloors. Scarface features three tracks that take a chainsaw to the competition: the title track is haunting 4/4 house track with warped, forlorn vocals; the moodiness is continued on the deeper, garage influenced late night vibes of "Served Til Midnight". However, the Miami sun comes out for Onza's hands-in-the-air carnival friendly rework of the title track.

Review: Barnsley's finest bass producer Brent Kilner has been talking recently about switching to a brand new sound, so the My Mind EP might just be your last chance to catch him killing it before he moves on. If they are his last bass tracks, he's bowing out it style, delivering the raucous and breaky 4x4/jump up hybrid "My Mind" and the deep and moody wobbler "Boomstick". The title track also gets remixed into some doomy dubstep by Pelikan and turned into an otherworldly bass assault by Kiri.

Review: Very little is known about Mirrim, so it's a good thing that this EP is so good. Here Bear Fresh present two tracks of stunning imagination - "And I Wish" is a heartstring-tugging slice of cloudlike urban dream pop, with big, misty synth melodies and anthemic vocals. It also gets turned into sci-fi 2-step by Vern & Milla, and dubby garage by Hatchin & Prospera. "Between Places" meanwhile, plows a more tech house route with extra deep goodness.

Review: UK label Bear Fresh have carved a niche for themselves by sourcing and releasing some of the cleanest, crispest beats drizzled with '90s retro goodness. Here on Rural Vol 2, their second label compilation, they keep the good times coming. The overall vibe is still sharp, blingy deep house but with lots of twists, including the luxuriantly smooth rhythms of Jaquo George's "Luv Song", the melodic 4 x 4 of Paul Dobson's "In My Heart" and the deep tropical percussion of "Alright" by So Standard. Top notch!

Review: Austrian duo Klaue & Tatze make their debut on Bear Fresh and the result is an instant flex back to garage's mid-90s golden era where bold soulful vocals and funky grooves ruled the roost. With heat steaming from every organ lick and bass drop, it's an instant floor-strutter. Remix-wise Scullious adds subversive, sludgy bass tones while Dosage adds more beef to the beats and polishes up the organ licks nicely. Euphoric soul throughout. Bring it down? Review: Big, beautiful and bouncy aren't usually words that describe garage-influenced deep house, but that's exactly what the original version of "Harem" is. The brainchild of Klient aka Mr Beeb and Fault Lines, it's a sincere nod towards those grimy garage days while remaining crispy clean and ready for the present. With a Scullious-esque gritty house remix and a deeper, darker take from Dosage on the other side, this is a must for anyone on a mixed electronic/house/garage tip. As the old saying goes, some two-step a day helps you work, rest and play.
