Review: Some compilations can be tough to review because their 20 or so tracks all sound very similar, and it's hard to come up with enough words. Here, we have the opposite problem: there's no room here to really do justice to the sheer variety that 'Feels Like Home' has to offer. But just to give you a snapshot, the album opens with Spindyrella's dusty, looping 'Sinnlos', before bringing us lo-fi hip-hop from Imaginary Friend and wistful neo-soul from Karya . Then, by the time we get to the garage bump of Lavan's 'Bring It Back' and the 90s house nostalgia of 'Jetson G's 'Bleep Express', we've worked our way up to the dancefloor - but not before we've had doses of jazz fusion from George John, indie-dance from Real Velour, mind-warping digidub from Sempra and a whole lot more.

Review: High Park Funk - AKA Tesko - hails from Glasgow in Scotland, but his most obvious musical contemporaries would be US artists like Thundercat or perhaps Amp Fiddler, as on this, his third album if we're counting correctly, he fuses funk, jazz-funk, hip-hop and broken beat into a musical concoction that isn't quite any of the above and yet somehow all of them at the same time. Tracks range from the Zapp/Cameo-isms of 'Signals' and 'Let The Funk Permeate' to the wonked-out bruk jazz of 'Subconscious Streams', and it all adds up to a long-player that on the one hand is quite cerebral and muso-esque, but on the other is definitely constructed with the shaking of booties on dancefloors in mind.

Review: Real Velour's debut EP on Blaq Numbers arrives as a mysterious gem from an unknown source from the early eighties, with its playful melodies, disco drum machines, and eclectic synth textures hinting at diverse influences from mainland Europe, Japan, and post-industrial Britain. Despite its retro sound palette, each track exudes a fresh vibe for contemporary dancefloors, reminiscent of the indefinable essence found in 10cc's 'Britishness' or Billy Childish's revitalisation of rock 'n' roll. The EP, titled Spaceship In Tokyo takes an exciting turn with remixes by sexy disco maestros Donald Dust and Panthera Krause. Donald Dust transforms the title track into a New York-inspired groove with shades of LCD Soundsystem and Mutant Disco, while Panthera Krause's wild reinterpretation of "People Make Me Wanna Scream" crafts a fruity cocktail of metallic and industrial rhythms blended with haunting synth-pop textures.

Review: Originally released as an ultra-limited cassette, this compilation from the Blaq Numbers crew was created to raise money for a children's hospice in the label's home city of Leipzig. While titled Ordinary Pleasures, it contains some extraordinary material. Beginning with the blunted R&B of Albert Vogt and the head-nodding hip-hop of Imaginary Friend and Donnie Moustaki, the 19-track set slickly moves between synth-laden nu-boogie (George John), dense sample house (Last Nubian), future garage (KG), post-electro analogue house oddness (Sianso), psychedelic shufflers (Janthe), vocal trip-hop (Meggy & Malugi), Dam Funk style synth-funk (Dukus), piano-sporting proto-house-meets-deep house fusion (DJ Detox), sleazy late-night workouts (Jana Falcon) and superior deep house (Workshop, Lootbeg). Fantastic fare for a great cause.
