Body N Deep

Jovonn founded Body N Deep in 2014 after his Ep Release on Dogmatik Records owned by Alex Arnout.

Jovonn was already in development of a new label and came up with the debut name from his EP from Dogmatik - Body 'N Deep - who release his first EP 'Peak Hour' in late 2016.

Body 'N Deep is focused on what Jovonn started in the early 90's: quality Deep and Underground House to tech house. He is also looking to developing fellow producers and Artists Established and forthcoming.

Body 'N Deep Records is Raw, Deep, Tech - the Home of the Underground based in London and Jovonn is about to give you what he started again.

Review: You may remember MaxJax. Back in 2022, he released his first ever EP at the tender age of 13 with a little help from mentor (and Body N Deep label boss) Jovonn. 'Who Is Max' is his second EP and is arguably even stronger than his impressive debut. The 15 year-old begins with 'Dubby Roller', an accurately titled slab of sub-heavy dub house/deep house fusion rich in echoing late-night motifs and Korg M1 organ riffs, before smothering a chunky groove with expansive piano solos on 'Awoken'. He doffs a cap to mentor Jovonn on the tough, dubby and driving dancefloor deepness of 'Expressions of House', while 'Way You Move' is a brighter and breezier peak-time house workout tailor made for summer festivals and open-air clubs.

Review: If you're looking for top-notch house music informed by New Jersey garage, Chicago deep house and Italo-house of old, the unashamedly nostalgic music of Davide Disanto's St David project is definitely for you. This EP for Jovonn's Body & Deep label, itself a prime outlet for classy house cuts, is as good a place as any to start. There are two St David productions on offer: the rolling, locked-in, late-night friendly wooziness of 'The Message', where sampled spoken word snippets rise above a filtered bass breakdown, and 'Wet Dreams', a sparkling and piano-sporting slab of sunshine house pleasure. Nu-Cleo delivers a 'Space Funk' styled classic house take on the latter track, while Jovonn drops vocal and instrumental takes on 'The Message' that are deeper, jazzier and more bass-heavy than St David's version.

DJ Spen & Soulfuledge - "Ascension" (feat Anderson Asher) - (6:21) 123 BPM
Jeremy Santiago FTL - "Tech Head" - (6:39) 125 BPM Hot
Review: Body N Deep's 'BnD Project' EPs - compilation style four-trackers featuring cuts hand-picked by boss man Jovonn - have so far never failed to impress. Predictably, volume three in the series is every bit as essential as its predecessors. Eddie Leader sets the tone with a real earworm of a revivalist New Jersey deep house jam - all hip-swinging machine drums, chunky bass, female vocal snippets and fizzing organ stabs - before St David takes us even deeper via the squelchy synth-bass, restless stabs and synth-sax squiggles of 'The Dark Past'. Anderson Asher guests on DJ Spen and Soululedge's trumpet and saxophone-laden, sun-splashed deep house gem 'Ascension', before Jeremy Santiago FTL opts for a trippy, suspenseful, slow-building deep house-goes-tech-house vibe on superb closing cut 'Tech Head'.

Raves At Sundown - (5:50) 126 BPM
Review: Remarkably, Maxjax is just 13 years old. For the past year, Jovonn has been mentoring him after hearing snippets of his bedroom productions on Instagram. This debut EP is highly impressive and the features the kind of quality deep, subtly soul-flecked goodness that you'd expect from a producer twice his age. Jovonn is on edit duty on EP opener 'Cuerda (Strings)', a chunky, string-laden loop jam smothered in filter tweakery and snappy snares, while 'Don't (Ben Rebel Edit)' is a fiendishly sub-bass-heavy New Jersey style deep house roller tailor-made for playing at 4am. 'Saxy Belter' is a saxophone-heavy chunk of bumpin' filter-house heaviness of the sort that Derrick Carter would once have championed, while 'Raves at Sundown' is a spine-tingling, energy-packed deep house bumper laden with eyes-closed, sun-splashed melodies.

Bounce - (5:34) 125 BPM
Review: Earlier in the year, sometime Strictly Rhythm and Nervous Records regular Tommy Bones delivered his first new music in nearly two years: a two-part EP called The House of Bones. Here he builds on that via a first outing on Body N Deep. There are three original tracks to savour: the bumpin', low-slung sweatiness of 'Don't Stop', where wobble bass and Mr Oizo style electronic sleaze catch the ear; the chunky late-night haziness of 'Wait', with its echoing riffs and speaker-bothering sub-bass; and the eccentric 'Bounce', which boasts all manner of angular, mind-altering electronic sounds. Label boss Jovonn provides the obligatory remixes of 'Don't Stop', providing a slicker and subtly soulful 'Raw Deep' mix and a more percussive, loose-limbed, late-night 'BND Dub'.

Deep End (Techno Club Theme) - (8:23) 125 BPM
Review: It may now be 31 years since Jovonn released his first EP, but the Brooklyn-based producer is showing no signs of losing his touch. In fact, his productions are arguably getting better, at least on recent evidence. Predictably, he's on fine form on the Indoors EP, first utilising the same Marlena Shaw vocal sample mined by St Germain on 'Rose Rouge' for the slick, tech-tinged jazz-house wonder that is 'Get Together (Jovonn's BND Mix)'. He next opts for a more locked-in and hypnotic deep house sound on 'I Am Man' -all Afro-house influenced drums, weighty sub-bass and ultra-melodic synth sounds, before joining the dots between smooth tech-house and basement-bothering techno on heady late-night roller 'Deep End (Techno Club Theme)'.

Alfonzo Bottone - "Mindfully" - (8:48) 124 BPM
Javonntte - "Too High" - (4:25) 115 BPM
Review: Body N Deep's first BND Project mini-compilation was one of our favourite EPs of 2019 - a 27-minute journey into deep, soulful house packed with high-quality tracks. This belated sequel is every bit as alluring as its predecessor, with label chief Jovonn selecting another four treats for the ears. Atlanta's Kai Alce kicks things off with a sublime slab of percussive and sweaty late-night deep house ('Dreamin'), before Alex Arnout adds sci-fi synth lines, sustained chords and bubbly electronics to a rock-solid beat on 'Flashback'. Those seeking sun-drenched positivity should check out Alfozo Bottone's sparkling 'Mindfully', while Javontte's 'Too High' offers a near-perfect blend of chunky, off-kilter grooves, jazzy keys, filter effects and massively manipulated Stevie Wonder vocal samples.

Turnin Me Out (FTL Drive remix) - (7:03) 125 BPM
Review: With the original track taken from Jovonn's 2018 Timeless LP released on his own Body N Deep label, Turnin Me Out marks a much welcome extension of the artits's first full studio offering since the Blaque House LP released back in 2009! When it's the real deal you just know. Goldtones all the way, New Jersey in the house. With some bad ass dubby grooves and clubby techno synths locking down the original here, its the sultry hook and vocal combo that gives "Turning Me Out" its wider appeal, with deeper house heads not forgotten in Jovonn's 'Dark room dub'. Two jazzy and frenetic mixes come from master at work Louie Vega with a highpassed FTL mix perfect for that top loop and selection for the more adventurous DJ.

Review: Should you happen to need a 27-minute snapshot of where house music is "at" in August 2019, this V/A offering from Jovonn's Body N Deep label would be a fine place to start. Franck Roger marries tuff, techy beats to soulful female vocal samples on 'Get Ready', Sean McCabe brings crisp beats, jazzy Hammonds and a killer 90s-style M1 line on the strutty 'Freak It', Delano Smith's 'Moon Dance' has a more traditional soulful house feel (and owes a big debt to Akabu classic 'Ride The Storm') and finally Monocue gets techy, tribal and a little bit Afro on 'Borrowed Days'. Classy stuff all round.

Review: 1990s deep house survivor Jovonn is set to release a new album in the autumn. Before that, he's decided to let us tale a peak inside his bulging vaults via a six-track set of "Lost Traxx". His love of fluttering, new age house style synth lines comes to the fore on beautiful, organ-rich opener "Work", while "Lost in Bass" is a heads-down, basement-ready roller from the point when New York and New Jersey producers were looking to the North of England for inspiration. Ultra-positivity is provided via the jazz piano solos of "Movin Pianos", the Roy Ayers style vibraphone work on "Not The Way", while closer "The Deepest Moov", all tactile, synth-driven grooves and jammed-out electric piano solos, more than lives up to its name.

Review: On his latest outing, New Jersey deep house stalwart Jovonn has decided to pay tribute to the Peak Hour. Predictably, he gets straight to the point with "Body 'N' Deep (Fabric Mix)", doffing a cap to a certain Farringdon basement by way of rolling riffs, quick-fire soulful vocal samples, crashing cymbal builds and the kind of toasty-but-restless groove that has always marked out his greatest productions. "Can't Make My Mind Up (Dubba Dub)" is deeper and groovier with looser machine drums and the producer's usual rich melodic progressions, while closer "Stomp The Ground" is rougher and darker as usual, with wiggly acid lines and a hushed spoken word vocal wrapping themselves around a Red Zone style basement groove.
