Review: There are few better at cutting-up classic disco material than Venice Beach. The Parisian duo rarely strays away from their tried-and-tested formula, which offers a French Touch style take - all thick bottom-end, copious filters and cheeky loops - on the simple disco edit. It's much in evident on this latest two-track assault. "Just Like Music" sees them re-inventing Dayton's rare groove classic "The Sound of Music" as a chunky house looper, while "Love's The Feeling" successfully tinkers with Serious Intention's "Serious", a dubwise proto-house classic that was once a favourite at the paradise garage. That they've managed to retain the sparse, trippy, delay-laden feel of the original while beefing up the bottom end is particularly impressive.
Review: Parisian boogie merchant Dalmasso Romain (aka Lord Funk), loves a good party soundtrack and really knows how to craft one. The Higher EP is his latest missive from the disco frontline and the news is that there's a total firefight on the dancefloor. There's four slices of prime funk here, and our favourites include the bubbly bass squelch of "Let Me Take You Higher", the chromium-plated electro-soul of "Got No Return" and the Gina X rework "I Was Born To Love You".
Review: The latest EP from Parisian electro boogie merchant Lord Funk sadly arrives in the wake of the tragic death of soul veteran Bobby Womack. As such the first track "RIP" pays homage to his late hero -complete with slap bass and sweeping synths. Elsewhere it's a party as usual vibe with the urgent disco-funk jam "Toc Tok", the sleazy Miami freestyle pop of "Hot Summer Night" and the sultry, between the silky synth sheets loverman joint "Never 2 Much".
