Bowlcut Beats is a London-based drum & bass label brought to you by the creators of the 2016-established streetwear brand Bowlcut Garms. Weaving wavey fabrics led to lighter-raising production roll-out in 2020, with artist involvement from the likes of: Levela, Cyantific, T>I, Objectiv, Kyrist and Tall Order. Bowlcut was founded by Joe Kapiche.
Review: Taking a moment away from their satirical streetwear manoeuvres, Bowlcut Beats welcome a dream collabo to collection: Dunk and Teej. Neither of these jungle boys are strangers to the label and the pair complement each other's gritty minimal signature perfectly as we're pinged around from shaker to sub in a despicable and filthy manor. 'Jungle Boy' sets the tone with its woozy, drunken bassline and robust kick drum swagger. It's backed up all the way by a range of vibes; 'Mamba' hits with a sexy, hip-slinking groove, 'Target' hits with pure tension while Teej gives his own stark twist on the title track for a final remix blast-off. Exceptional.
Review: Mr Long Hands likes his jump-up around breakfast. Around lunchtime it's all about dancefloor. Then teatime he loves a nice bit of liquid. But midnight? You got it, he's loving minimal D&B and it purrs all slinky and low-riding like this new thumper on Bowlcut. Other times of day he loves slapping some grimey vibes around some mid range harmonic bass stabs ('Gat'), he's spending a lot of time unleashing bad stinks from the couch ('Sofa So Good') and he rolls his sleeves up with a classic house vocal and big euphoric moments on 'Hard Work'. See you at the stroke of 12.
