Review: Camea Hoffman, or simply known as Camea around the club circles, first appeared back during the mid-noughties on Clink Music, and although she's been more active as of late, the German producer has preferred to keep things sparse and discrete when it comes to releasing tunes. She returns to Ellen Allien's BPitch Control with "The Hallway", a mid-tempo techno bomb surrounded by heavily processed sonics and driven by a deadly kick-hat groove. The title-track is backed by the aqueous, minimal sway of "Wormhole", and "Orchestra Of Dreams", another watery excursion with an electro edge. Nice and solid, a certified thumbs up!

This Is Your Beat (Mike Starr remix) - (7:13) 124 BPM
Who Am I (Rampa remix) - (6:21) 122 BPM Hot
Review: Greek house auteur Argy has been through many faces and phases. From starting out on Poker Flat making some sweet minimal grooves, to stints making techno on labels like Ibadan to his pop inflected house tendencies of recent times. Now some tracks off his recent Dominonation album (in collaboration with vocalist Mama) on B Pitch Control get the remix treatment. Man of the moment Alan Fitzpatrick lends his hand to "Without Me" giving it just the right amount of attitude for those pre peak time moments. The Mike Starr remix of "Without Me" is pretty neat; a bass driven deep house workout that reflects his time honing his skills in NYC, London and now Berlin. Finally Keinemusik label boss Rampa's remix of "Who Am I" is the kind of dreamy and spiritual deep house reminiscent of Osunlade's Yoruba Records. Feel the vibe!

Our House Music (feat DJ Funk - DJ Tasaka remix) - (6:11) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Japanese techno legend DJ Shufflemaster is back and he's certainly still got it. The guy always had a sense of humour in everything he did and still does, teaming up with the equally legendary booty house don DJ Funk for "Our House Music" a soulful and emotive deep house stomper for the main room packed full of Funk's parochial yet epic monologues. Tokyo's DJ Tasaka lends a hand also to give the track a deep, acid house remix that stays true to the Windy City theme quite splendidly.

Review: Brit by way of Sydney, Garry Todd has released EPs previously on Contemporary Scarecrow and Illusion, however his debut album arrives on Berlin institution Bpitch Control; he's really hit the big time now! Named after his late grandmother, Nora Lilian, his long player is 11 cuts of atmospheric and adrenalised tech house that will rock just as many dancefloors in Berlin as it will in London. The vocal led energy of opening track "Time Goes On" starts things in spectacular fashion, as does the pre peak time groove of "Terri-Lee" which still retains some great atmosphere. "Motives & Thoughts" or "Transcending" are tripped out and deeper, but strictly for the afterhours. The tracks towards the end of the album go for the more dreamier and ethereal vibes of Kompakt or Crosstown Rebels. There's some a wide range of mood and grooves on this one, Todd's done well here!

Review: If two years ago you'd said to even the most open-minded BPitch Control fan that the diverse label would be putting out soulful torch songs in 2011, they would have questioned your sanity. However, that's exactly what's happened. On Werkschau, the latest compilation from Ellen Allien's Berlin imprint, the centrepiece is the smoky, seductive soul of Jahcoozi's "Day In, Day Out". It's not an aberration: the other highlights here are characterised by a focus on deeply personal contributions. Be it the muffled vocals on Chaim's dub techno, Sascha Funke's unforgettably melodic techno poem, "Hiddensee" or Kiki & Lenz and Zander VT's explorations of disco-fuelled, vocal-led house on "Morning Maniacs" and "Gotta Look Up To Get Down" respectively, every shared experience is worth its weight in gold.

Sun The Rain (We Love remix) - (7:16) 128 BPM
Review: The calibre of contributors to this remix album is a sign of the high regard that Bpitch boss Ellen Allien is held in. Aux 88 depart from their trademark electro sound for a tight, stabby techno take on "Ever", while Bodycode brings his eerie organ sound to the spacey "Dream", straddling this seemingly disparate mixture with snappy percussion. Meanwhile, Kassem Mosse delivers a beautiful, chiming bell and breathy vocal-laden take on "Our Utopie". There are also some fine left of centre versions, like Tim Hecker's organic ambient version of "Sun the Rain", John Roberts's gradually unravelling, tripped out melodic interpretation of "Should We Go Home", and the piece de resistance, the Ripperton take on "My Tree", which progresses from dense drums and foreboding trance riffs into soaring electro bass and epic indie guitars.

Review: In Chaim, Israel boasts a producer of genuine flair, quality and innovation. Alive, his debut album for long time employers Bpitch Control, is the equal to anything from Berlin, London or New York. What's more, there's a distinctive shuffle and melodic warmth that gives it real emotional resonance. This is electronic music that appeals beyond the confines of club dancefloors - it has that kind of timeless, far-sighted vibe that makes it a wonderful listen from start to finish. First and foremost, then, Alive is a proper album, with songs ("Wish", "Alive"), jolly instrumentals ("Popsky"), musical experiments (the strange pop-rock of "Robots On Meth") and stone-cold hits (the celebrated dream-like synth pop of "Love Rehab" and grandiose dancefloor throb of "U & Eye" and "Runaway Frequencies"). It gathers together diverse influences - synth-pop, German house and techno, nu-disco, ambient, even nu-jazz - and weaves them into something new and fresh. It's beguiling, bewitching and, most of all, beautiful. Don't miss out.

Review: As well as being a vocalist for peerless disco outfit Hercules and Love Affair, Aerea Negrot has a great sideline in more tech and dub-influenced songwriting. Following on from last year's debut single "All I Wanna Do", BPitch Control drop her latest collection of songs this week and they're a revelation. "Miss You" sees Negrot feed her vocals through a vocoder and duet with herself over a slow and sultry waves of synth pads, while "Right Body Wrong Time" channels the golden age of Chicago with her commanding vocals dipping in and out of a minimal-jack beat. "Childhood" is equally fascinating, with Negrot's swooping vocalisms strongly recalling Liz Frazer of the Cocteau Twins mixed with Grace Jones.

Bertrand. - "Midsummer Dream" - (5:14) 135 BPM
Adriana Lopez - "Chaos Transition" - (5:47) 134 BPM
Review: On its third and final instalment, We Are Not Alone delivers more cutting edge electronic music from the artists who guested at the party of the same name. This volume is hugely varied, ranging from Ryan James Ford's uplifting deep techno to the underground pulses of Lada's "Kassi" and Heidi Sabertooth's "Innergaze". Sounding a more visceral note is Henning Baer's "Nightwing Microlight" and the hard-jacking analogue banger "Basic" by Truncate, while Setaoc Mass' "Silent Tension" is led by cavernous drums. Sandwiched in between these dance floor burners are more offbeat pieces, like Cosmin TRG's gentle, downbeat "Sourde" and the wonderful drones of "Chaos Transition" from Adriana Lopez.

Review: Ellen Allien's label continues its well-measured flirtation with pop music on Giants. "Ganymedes" is pure bouncy, poppy techno. It may stop short of using a verse-chorus structure but its innocent vocals are impossible to dislodge once heard. "Be Free" is just as infectious, with Mr Static utilising a rippling bassline and dubby drums as backing for an insistent vocal. The dense, drummy groove of "Imagine" makes it a pure DJ tool, while Kiki's edit of "Ganymedes" serves two functions, its buzzing bassline ideal for the dancefloor and those vocals making it destined for radio play.

The title track occupies that middle ground between trance, ambience and downbeat that Telefon Tel Aviv have become known for as synths swell and climax and dreamy, seductive vocals unfold over crashing drums. Label owner Ellen Allien drops a dance floor-focused take on "Birds", with a sinewy bassline underpinning a warbling, squelchy acid workout. Mathew Dear chooses an entirely different approach; over a warm fretless bassline, Dear lets a wall of dreamy textures gush forth, propelling the dreamy vocals towards an inevitable climax. Finally, Cocteau Twins fans will be interested in "The Sky Is Black", as it features Robin Guthrie's deep tones, fused with trancey synths and glitchy rhythms.

Review: Vitamine sees Thomas Muller in more restrained mode than usual. "New Kid in Town" even suggests that he has, ahem, grown up. Centred on loose, rolling drums, it moves into sensuous disco strings and embraces sassy horns. "M-1001001" is more murky and sounds like Muller got lost on his way to the discotheque. Featuring dense drums and insistent, effective filters, Muller uses a droning horn as a guide through the soupy arrangement. The vowel-free "BPCTRL" is more drummy again - albeit dubbed out in places - but the most obvious articulation of Muller's coming of age as a producer is the glorious melodic rush of "City Of Lost Souls".

LISm - (44:58) Hot
Review: This latest album by Bpitch Control boss Allien is a long way from the label's minimal, sometimes trancey roots. It sounds like the author has grown up musically, and LISm flows through a series of mood pieces. Although this special edition divides the whole 45 minute piece into discrete chunks, this writer listened to the work as one continuous track, and this is how it works best. Beginning with what could be the sound of demented monkeys wittering away, it moves into jangly guitars and blissed out vocals, before a series of isolationist bleeps kick in. From there it moves from late night jazzy sax, dense drones before kicking back into deep, ethereal electronics. It's a major artistic triumph for Allien.

Review: Like her last album, The Kiss sees Ellen Allien explore an alternate route than the skewed, rough and ready minimalism she made her name with. Indeed, "The Kiss (Extended Version)" deploys an old school Chicago bassline with mysterious synths and a jacking rhythm. "Need" is less memorable, but Allien has the good sense to draft in Redshape for remix duties. The masked producer drops sweeping synths and a powerful, pulsing bass to lend the track some extra menace. Bpitch has also commissioned German duo Snuff Crew to rework "The Kiss" and they don't disappoint, using playful cowbells, mournful strings and a powerful, pulsing bass to create an unforgettable retro-style remix.

Review: Safety Scissors has already featured quite prominently on Ellen Allien's BPitch Control, a label which readily guarantees quality on all fronts, but this is his first full-length work for the imprint and only his third altogether. It's certainly bold and different to many other things featuring on the label, but Mr. Scissors has created quite a spectacle, where acoustic-ambient moments such as "Moving Light" are intertwined with maniacal beat-shredding like "Somnambulance", the straighter 4/4 licks of "Gemini" or even the laid-back, pop rhythms of "Progress & Perseverance" and the glitchy, vocal-led flex on "Lights Out". It's great to see such a successful electronic label doing things just that little bit differently!

Review: Simona Calvini is one of Italy's best-known DJs and on Blind, proves that she's fast becoming one of that country's most promising producers. Eschewing straight, linear grooves, this release is based on off-kilter rhythms and stripped back arrangements. On the title track, Calvini uses this approach as a basis for deep chord washes, whispered vocals and hypnotic bleeps. The mood is far less serene on "Look Deep", where murderous bass drops and eerie noises prevail and on "Toy Boy", where a tearing low end is combined with steely electro drums and a stepping rhythm to create a sound that alternates between icy and menacing. But Calvini is most impressive when exploring pure rhythms and the rolling, dubbed out "Awake" is the release's highlight.
