Toxic Funk, Vol 4
Dance To The Beat - (3:16) 153 BPM Hot
Review: As always with the eminence of Breakbeat Paradise Recordings, we braced ourselves for an explosive landing on this latest offering from Second Hand Audio, who deliver the fourth edition of the 'Toxic Funk' series. We open up with the charming guitar riffs and old school singalong vocals of 'Dance To The Beat', which undeniably turns to the mood positive after just a few bars, followed by scratchy vocal samples to match. The funk levels are then increased ten-fold as 'Treacherous Love' links together classic bass riffing and more old school hip-hop vocal work, throwing us back in time to a happier place and rounding off this two-tracker with a splash of serious style.

Hard Times
Hard Times (Suckaside remix) - (4:35) 153 BPM Hot
Review: It's another absolute strike from the Breakbeat Paradise crew as they welcome the ever-ready sounds of BadboE to the table, delivering a vibrant original alongside a hip-shaking collection of remixes. First up, 'Hard Times' takes centre stage as shrill saxophone melodies and groove-inducing breakbeat arrangements give us a tasty original to work with, setting the mood just right for some remix action. Next up, Suckaside unloads a seriously weight refix clip, giving the track a much more dubwise feel, followed by the system-twisting bass crunches of Baxta & Boydex's overhaul, alongside Gramophone Soul's more dancefloor driven rethink. Every feature on this collection has a valid time and place, making it a very well arranged remix package!

Blessing EP
Boydex & Baxsta - "Burning Up" (feat Sully Sax) - (4:11) 150 BPM Hot
Review: Next up from the incredibly consistent catalogue of Breakbeat Paradise, we see them unveil yet another spicey box of weaponry, this time welcoming the one and only Boydex inside along with a host of guests to match. We begin with the sumptuous saxophone riffs and euphoria inducing structures of 'Burning Up' combining beautiful vocal plays from Sully Sax and tidy co-production from Baxta. From here, 'Blessings' arrives with more sweet vocal work from the very same, this time rolling out a much more funk-driven feeling, followed by a wavy co-appearance from Pecoe on the hip-hop inspired skins of 'Move Around'. Finally, 'Funky Fresh' unveils a crunkulated combination of electronic rhythm and moody drum struts, giving us one hell of a closer to round things off!

I Got The... EP
I Got The... (feat MARIA) - (4:40) 150 BPM
Review: It's always an exciting thing to see the Breakbeat Paradise team return with another hefty drop, this time welcoming the one and only Beat-Breaker inside for a sizzling exploration of modern breakbeat action. First up, 'I Got The...' is unleashed, a gnarly combination of silky synthesis and hard hitting drum work alongside MARIA, before 'Drop The Bass' gives us a crunchy combination of more lethal reese action atop euphoric chord progressions to match the occasion. From here, 'S.T.P' lets the squelchiness of synthetic loose, before Kurnel MC arrives on a funkadelic guitar-driven monster in 'Wild Style'. Finally, Melody V lends her vocal textures to 'Something That U Need', a combination of funky melody and uplifting hornlines, to put a vibrant final spin on this wicked creation.

Breakin The Riddim Vol 4
Various
DJ Clairvo - "Step Step Step" - (4:14) 153 BPM
FunkinRight - "High Yo" - (3:50) 153 BPM
Review: Whenever we see the sounds of Breakbeat Paradise arriving in the store, we know for a fact that we are going to be in for a good time, especially when they revisit a series as exciting as today's. The fourth edition of their 'Breakin The Riddim' is a gem-laden experience, packed with wicked creations from the likes of BadboE, Funkin Basstards, DJ Clairvo FunkinRight & more, all adding their own unique approach to the table and giving this collection a seriously flavorsome feel. The whole project just exhales creativity in sonic design, from the rootsy overhauls of Jayl Funk's 'Come On Little Girl' to the more funkadelic refills of Pecoe's 'Bring Your Body. The variation really makes this collection special, with our favorites including TowlieDJ's vibrant overhaul of Cutty Ranks with 'Limbs', next to Sonale's LFO driven 'Exodus' redesign, taking classic Bob Marley vocals and twisting them into something completely new!

The Flora & Fond Farewell
Coleus Swich - (4:09) 150 BPM
Review: It's always a happy moment to see new Breakbeat Paradise material landing in the store, with this spicey new four-tracker from Maandala being a wicked addition. We open up with the euphoric horn work and hard hitting drum smashes of 'Coleus Switch', which sets a happy tone very quickly through its uplifting melodic approach. Next, we take things a little bit more into the future as the sweeping synthesizer slides and electronic vocal manipulations of 'Closure' unleash something a little different, before 'Monstera 5' sets the dancefloor alight with a monstrous display of synthetic bass mastery, switching between grizzly reeses and frog-like LFOs. Finally, 'Saviour, Self' delves a bit more into the electro-inspired side of breaks, deploying 80's style synth pulses and a very fun vocal sample to top everything off. Lovely work!

Toxic Funk Presents Boots Of Paradise
Various
Crash Party - "The Juice (Grunt Dream)" - (3:48) 152 BPM
Mako & Mr. Bristow - "Uptight Boss" (Skank edit) - (3:04) 154 BPM
BadboE - "Poor Folkes" (Party edit) - (4:08) 153 BPM
LROY - "Ice Cream" - (3:56) 155 BPM
Review: It's difficult to envisage a Breakbeat Paradise drop that doesn't feature a serious tonne of quality, with this latest collection of 13 powerful creations making up the 'Boots Of Paradise' collection. The project takes a very central theme of reigniting hip hop vocals with dancefloor-ready reworks, from the classic Biggie sampling of Crash Party's 'The Juice' to the old school slicing of 'Ice Cream' from LROY and Aliens In Denmark's 'Chatty Tramp'. Even with this pretty solid central theme, the project has a lot of variation involved, from the sharpened drum punches and modernized synth slides of 'Brick Bounce' by Towlie DJ, to the more 4x4 influenced grooves of Morlack's 'Fall In Love With Me'. Our standout highlight for the whole drop would have to be Pecoe's 'Champion', which balances crunchy drums with well designed vocal sampling, which also makes it a perfect final entry.

Ride With Me
The Good Love (feat Alize & Sully Sax) - (3:52) 153 BPM
Review: The Breakbeat Paradise Recordings team very rarely disappoint, with this latest four tracker from Boydex once again showing why they are such a dominant force in the Breakbeat sphere. We kick off with the complex combination of wah wah guitars and trumpet flickers on 'Hey Guys', which gives us an energetic start, before the more mellow basslines and affected vocal slices of 'Ride With Me' take control. Next, Alize & Sully Sax get involved with a couple of fantastic additions on 'The Good Love', a sultry display of vocal majesty and guitar grooves, before the super crunchy drum punches of 'Do Your Thing' helps into a wavy finale. Wavy stuff indeed!

The Time Has Come - (3:00) 150 BPM
Review: The Breakbeat Paradise team have a fantastic record of supplying us with top quality-sounding breakbeat originals, with this new selection from BadboE and Tom Showtime continuing that theme in style. We begin with 'We Funk Tings', combining some classic rap vocal sampling with a crunchy backdrop of groovy bassline action and subtle horn influence. This is then followed by the hip-shaking horns and percussion-laden arrangements of 'You Have It Hot', before the nostalgic composition of 'The Time Has Come', again working together with legendary vocal samples with leg-shaking rhythmic designs to really get the day-party started!

Review: As always when we stumble across a new Breakbeat Paradise drop, we feel the need to buckle up our bootstraps for a journey into the groove, this time alongside the wonderful duo of Mined & Forrest. We kick off with the title track 'Cool Operator', a punchy funk bomb, stuffed full of gorgeous bass riffidge and scattered drum splashes, before 'Rock It' deploys an array of electronic guitar lines for something a little bit different. From here, 'NY' relaxes the tone with some smooth sample work and expressive pad moves providing us with a sumptuous mixdown, before the emotional string lines and hypnotic electro twists of ''My Siren Song' are joined by Amanda Power for a wavy end to this top quality four tracker!

Gonna Work It EP
Gonna Work It (Mount Ten remix) - (3:31) 150 BPM
Gonna Work It (Cayetano remix) - (3:43) 150 BPM
Review: When we dive into the Breakbeat Paradise catalogue, it's clear to see that they are one of the real leaders across the breakbeat genre, with this latest powerhouse drop from Nasa Funk being a perfect example of why. The original of 'Gonna Work It' is a super wonky creation, slapping together quirky vocal lines with stuttered live drum rhythms and an overall funkadelic feel. The remixes however are what bring this release to life, with four impeccable recreations being brought forward. Prosper & Stabfinger give the track a vibrant 4x4 lick of paint, alongside JayL Funk's smooth hip hop recreation and Mount Ten's spacy overhaul. Finally Cayetano sends the track down a crunchy halftime route to round us off in style.

Good Times EP
Good Times - (4:00) 153 BPM
Review: We have found it to be a common theme with Breakbeat Paradise releases that they really do ooze quality from start to finish, a pattern into which this latest five track thriller from Morlack, kicking off with the uplifting sample work and stuttered grooves of the title track 'Good Times'. This is followed then by then spacey arrangements and scratch inputs of 'Do It 2 Me' alongside 'Sexy Shine', a spacey project led by more clever vocal sampling. Finally, 'Get Happy' combines punchy bass guitars with rhythmic cowbell manoeuvres before we round up with 'Freak Bitch 2020', an amalgamation of funk and soul flavours to round us off in style!

Fire Back EP
Gimme The Best - (4:42) 150 BPM
Review: 2020 has arrived, and with it we are expecting yet another year of experimental breakbeat goodness, especially from the heavyweight labels such as Breakbeat Paradise. This first EP of the year from Mined & Forrest is a perfect way to kick off as we leap into four tasty originals, starting with the swagtastic bass moogs and drum shifts of 'The Big Mama', alongside the demonic vocal slaps of 'Acting Like You Know', the sauce-dripping smoothness of 'Gimme The Best' and the hard hitting bass drives of 'Fire Back' alongside IamLawn. On remix duty, Mr. Ours steps up first for a colourful rethink of 'The Big Mama', with Crash Party providing a grizzly d&b switch up of 'Acting Like You Know'. Tidy!

Tom Showtime - "Bad Grammarphone" (Bach To Life mix) - (1:46) 153 BPM
Review: So the team at Breakbeat Paradise are back to their old tricks again, proving just why they are so highly praised for their consistency here on JunoDownload. This latest project sees Tom Showtime join forces with a number of other producers for an intricate remix project, seeing a selection of fifteen potent reworks land in the store. The genre styles range for stripped back hip hop beats to more funky rethinks, giving a real mix and blend of styles. For us, the Tom Showtime remix of 'Bang Like This' from Ben & Lex alongside The Pharcyde summarizes everything this release is about, that being smooth, vibrant beats and warm, colourful basslines!

Closer To The Sun EP
Closer To The Sun (DiscObeta remix) - (3:48) 155 BPM
Review: As everyone expected, the latest in a long run of releases from the Breakbeat Paradise camp is an absolute belter as they unveil 'Closer To The Sun' from Ken. As a single it's a hip hop inspired thrill ride, built on hefty basslines and smooth drum work, immediately shouting "cool" at all who hear it. The bulk of this release comes via the remixes however, kicked off by Discobeta's subtle stripped back overhaul. We then hear Ursula 100 turn the track into an 80's inspired electro thriller before Minded & Forrest get super funky with their complete breakbeat redesign, packed with scratchy vocal slices and emotive horn sections. Finally we finish up with Bezwun's wonderful fidget-like refurbishment, driven by electronic chord stabs and groovy drum movements, rounding off a great EP in style.

Bong Hits From A Preacher Man (feat Isabel Drake) - (5:03) 150 BPM
Review: On this one Breakbeat paradise continue their seriously impressive 2017 run by employing the services of Captain Flatcap for a fantastic four track selection by the name of 'Squelchedelic Sounds'. We kick off with the ruckus of a recording with 'In My Blood' alongside the infamous vocals of MC Kurnel. Next up we skip into the fidgetty funk of 'Lets Have Some Fun' which combines pan flutes and synths in and extended call and respond movement for a real turn up. Following this we have 'Bong Hits From A Preacher Man', which is a classic rework of you know what, featuring fantastic work from Isabel Drake. Isabel also features on the final track 'Rat Race' which takes a dubstep format with crunchy lead synths rolling out smooth melodies.

Review: For this highly anticipated second volume of 'Breakin The Riddim', Breakbeat Paradise have got an awesome tracklisting and roster together to showcase the fusion of dub and funk into breakbeat compositions. For us the immediate highlights have to be the the reggae infused design of 'Meditation' from Leygo, the smooth patois vocal presence and from Richard Smiths on 'Fire Sound' from Illgorhythms and of course the crunchy drum design and writhing bass tones on Pecoe's 'Boom'. Overall this is a great compilation, showcasing a vast array of styles without diverting from the common theme of the project.

Review: Disco edit meister Badboe, recently made all our Christmases come at once by releasing a full extended play single, Ghetto Funk Testament. Here however, he's returned to his old ways by teasing us with just one new track. But what a track it is! "Under Your Spell" is a raucous party breaks jam features a strutting Go-Go beat and retro Fresh Prince-style rap from MC Shureshock. Funk Like This (feat AID - Wiccatron remix) - (4:34) 153 BPM
Review: Funkliners are all about easy, good times, which is a good thing because that's exactly what the Breakbeat Paradise label is all about too. Here they've cooked up two sizzlers that will get even the most difficult dancefloor moving - "Mumble" which is all perky, cut up funk samples and tough beats, and the title track, which keeps those big beats but holds a more stripped back groove. There are also two remixes: Wiccatron's scratchy rejig and Rory Hoy's bright and shiny 4/4 pop-house jam.

Take It To The Zulu (Funkanomics remix part 2) - (5:12) 151 BPM
Let's Go JamminA (Timewarp remix) - (5:44) 152 BPM
Review: It's not often an artist gets treated to being remixed 18 times on the one release, but here Morlack pulls it off. But before the remixing gets underway he raises the curtain with a Notorious B.I.G sampling gambit of slashing synths, tearing basslines and fluttering drums. Then there's the remixes. Funkanomics get all big band, Stevie Wonder and straight up hip hop on part two of a remix to "Take It To The Zulu", while BadBoE provides a killer remake of "Nice & Rough". James Brown is in the place during Trotter's remix of "Play Cards Right" while Morlack electrofunkifies himself in a 2014 remix of "Ghetto Vaccination". More breakbeats than you can poke a DJ at!

Review: Hungry? Then chow down on this electro boogie feast cooked up by Breakbeat Junkie and his cronies. Early copies of this floated around earlier this year, but it's now available on a full digital flex and the Breakbeat Paradise crew have laid out a seriously wholesome party spread. The title track is a bumping organic boogie banquet with cool vocals and obese bass while DJP's "Perfect Evolution" looks further back to 70s flare-strutting soul with emphatic vocal harmonies and a cool female rap leading the charge. Elsewhere we get all slap-bass and glitterball on "Never Dug Disco" and "Dance Yet" takes the Jungle Brothers to the funkiest possible pastures. Essential party bites.
