Have Faith
Have Faith (feat Sully Sax) - (4:20) 120 BPM
Disco Fever (feat Sully Sax) - (4:42) 120 BPM
Review: A touch of the forthcoming summer is in show with this latest run from the Breakbeat Paradise collective, welcoming the heavyweight combination of Pecoe & Boydex for four tracks of silky breaksy goodness. Opening up, we see the luscious vocal displays of Sully Sax on display as 'Have Faith' gives us a flutey sweep through emotive strings and tidy drums, followed by 'Bring The Heat', a more clunky chop through classic hip hop samples and guitar licks. Sully Sax then returns on the more nostalgia-inducing melodies of 'Disco Fever', before 'Go' closes us off with some funkadelic flavour. Awesome work!

Beat Treats 2 EP
So Nice - (3:48) 120 BPM
Review: You'd think James Brown's 'I Got You (I Feel Good)' had been sampled to death by now but here, Pecoe manages to lift a couple of lines from the middle eight and make them sound fresh on opener 'So Nice'. That sets the tone for an EP that's replete with party-starting funk breaks and familiar-sounding vocal and musical bites - 'My Business' marries 80s R&B diva snips to chunks of 'The Ultimatum' by US rappers Army Of The Pharaohs, while 'Gonna Do It Right' opens with 'Rock Creek Park'-esque guitar chops (though it's not actually a sample) and Kid N' Play make an unscheduled appearance on 'Funky Dope'.

Try & Buy EP
Try & Buy (Crash Party remix) - (4:08) 120 BPM
Review: Greek funk crew Nasa Funk were formed in 1999 and have two albums under their belt. This latest offering for Breakbeat Paradise begins life as a very playable lil' funker that evidences a strong Sly Stone influence, with maybe some hints of Curtis Mayfield thrown in as well, but comes accompanied by three pleasingly wide-ranging remixes, with Dal Platinum taking us down a dirtier, squelchier and more electronic funk route, TowlieDJ transforming the track into a lively roller sitting right on the D&B/funk-breaks cusp, and Crash Party pushing into leftfield beats territory on a rub that'll appeal to fans of the Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, Underworld/etc.

House Shoes EP
House Shoes (original mix) - (4:39) 122 BPM
Review: Once again we see a seriously vibrant return for Tha Fun Police, delivering a seriously tasty set of originals, opening up with the acidic synthetic textures and harsh drum pumps of 'House Shoes', a vibrant title track for the project to kick off with. From here, 'Breaks Shoes', gives us a more gnarly take on the original, focussing again on that enigmatic vocal sample and sharpened drum textures to match, giving us a real big room feel with the rhythmic arrangement. Finally, we dive into the blender as the one and only Kenny Beeper arrives just in time to draw the project to a close, unleashing a seriously spicy overhaul of 'Breaks Shoes', focussing on even more crunchy synth designs to match a tidy backdrop of sub pulses and atmospheric processing. Lovely work!

TowlieDJ - "Limbs" - (4:19) 122 BPM
Review: Whenever we see the sounds of Breakbeat Paradise arriving in the store, we know for a fact that we are going to be in for a good time, especially when they revisit a series as exciting as today's. The fourth edition of their 'Breakin The Riddim' is a gem-laden experience, packed with wicked creations from the likes of BadboE, Funkin Basstards, DJ Clairvo FunkinRight & more, all adding their own unique approach to the table and giving this collection a seriously flavorsome feel. The whole project just exhales creativity in sonic design, from the rootsy overhauls of Jayl Funk's 'Come On Little Girl' to the more funkadelic refills of Pecoe's 'Bring Your Body. The variation really makes this collection special, with our favorites including TowlieDJ's vibrant overhaul of Cutty Ranks with 'Limbs', next to Sonale's LFO driven 'Exodus' redesign, taking classic Bob Marley vocals and twisting them into something completely new!

The Flora & Fond Farewell
Saviour, Self - (5:42) 122 BPM
Review: It's always a happy moment to see new Breakbeat Paradise material landing in the store, with this spicey new four-tracker from Maandala being a wicked addition. We open up with the euphoric horn work and hard hitting drum smashes of 'Coleus Switch', which sets a happy tone very quickly through its uplifting melodic approach. Next, we take things a little bit more into the future as the sweeping synthesizer slides and electronic vocal manipulations of 'Closure' unleash something a little different, before 'Monstera 5' sets the dancefloor alight with a monstrous display of synthetic bass mastery, switching between grizzly reeses and frog-like LFOs. Finally, 'Saviour, Self' delves a bit more into the electro-inspired side of breaks, deploying 80's style synth pulses and a very fun vocal sample to top everything off. Lovely work!

Badass Funk Vol 2

Ewan Hoozami - "Rock More" - (3:48) 120 BPM
Review: As always with the Breakbeat Paradise Recordings crew, we are in for a treat as they unleash the full version of the second 'Badass Funk' compilation, jam-packed with colourful originals and vibrant sampling displays. Featuring eight exciting creations, the vibes stretch from the soulful sample slicing of 'Step Up' from The Breakbeat Junkie and DJP and disco-infused melodic switches of 'Dancing Mood' from Turntill, Merlin & Crosby, to the the more euphoric synth tops and bubbling drums of Ewan Hoozami's 'Rock More' and more relaxed grooves of BadboE's 'The Suicide Thing'. We also hear some tidy work from Morlack on 'Hydraulic Roof', alongside some oldschool finesse on Tosses' 'Same Old Funk'. The whole project oozes class, but our highlights have to include the scatty percussive switches and signalong melodies of B-Side and Kurnal MC's 'Each & Every Day', next to the funkadelic bass twangs of 'Funky Weekend' from Roast Beatz. Awesome stuff!

Stank Soul Edits Vol 5
Dynamic B-Boy - (3:01) 123 BPM
Review: As always with Breakbeat Paradise, they have brought some serious heat to his one as we enter the 5th edition of the Stank Soul Edits series, featuring Mako & Mr Bristow. We begin with the rock & roll waves of 'Funky Diggin', which through a combination of lofi-vocal arrangements and groovy percussive inputs, delivers a flavoursome breakbeat design. Next to this, we are introduced to the horn-like harmonies and thunderous bassline bounces of 'Dynamic B-Boy' which when topped with it's nostalgic vocal line, gives us a fantastic festival closer, crescendoing left, right and centre with some colourful melodic twists. Both tracks represent a fabulous middle point between old school sampling and new school arrangement, delivering the goods in style.

Papa Was - (4:38) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Following a short break, we are very pleased to see Morlack back at it again, reunited with the team at Breakbeat Paradise for a fiery five track display of breakbeat brilliance. We kick off super punchy drum processing and groovy bass riffing of 'Papa Was', which kicks us off with some sample-heavy goodness, followed by the colourful instrumentation and uplifting textures of 'Closet Freak'. The intensity then increases as we jump into some skippy vocal techniques on 'Plastic Love', moving into the more sweeping textures and raucous drum arrangements of 'It Gets To Me'. Finally, the project is rounded off with some finesse as we dive into the 2020 mix of 'Freakout', giving the project a stripped back finale allowing an easy landing. Lovely work!

Review: As always with the Breakbeat Paradise team, we are in for one hell of a ride with this spicy new selection, exploring a selection of high intensity remixes for the latest Mined & Forrest project. We begin with a raucous intro from Jack Lemmon, who gives 'Funk Toxic' a lick of paint, followed by BadboE's funkadelic rethink of 'Gimme The Best'. Next, Beat Le Juice sends 'Rock It' to the blender with a bass heavy sizzler of an overhaul, followed closely by both B-Side's oldschool chop of 'There It Is' and Mr Bristow's, post D&B recreation of 'Fire Back'. Finally, Mined & Forrest get busy themselves with an explosive VIP mix of 'Coming Through', putting a final glisten on a fantastic body of work.

Review: Upbeat, unpretentious nu-disco and disco-house are the order of the day here, much along the lines of Hed Kandi's mid-noughties Disco Kandi/Disco Heaven comps. With 14 tracks to choose from there's plenty of dancefloor bang for your disco buck, and while there's undoubtedly a whiff of fromage in the air in places (Badboe's rap-vocalled, Sister Sledge/InDeep-referencing 'Best Of My Beats', for instance, isn't a million miles from a Will Smith production) there are also slightly deeper pleasures awaiting those who are prepared to dig around a bit - see, for instance, the raw disco-funk of 'Miss Broadway' or Joy Legend's Hammond-sporting 'Pass It On'.

Over the years we have seen him deliver some incredibly vibrant creations at a super consistent rate, with today's return to Breakbeat Paradise Recordings being the perfect LP showcase. Featuring five top-quality originals, we begin with groovy guitar riffs of 'Back To The Beat', followed by 'Dance The Funk', a psychedelic explosion of punchy drum energy and catchy vocal slices. Review: It's becoming quite a common occurrence for us at Juno to open up the forthcoming box and find a piece of gold delivered direct to us from the Breakbeat Paradise Recordings crew, with this latest four track remix run out from Funkin Basstards being another example of that. We kick off with the energetic BadboE rework of 'Feel The Vibe', which realigns Sofia Kamina's soulful vocal presence with a thumping breakbeat drumline, followed by the super groovy guitar shuffles of Jayl Funk's '2000' remix. Funk Originals With Remixes
A Man About A Dog - "Pollos" (B-Side & BadboE remix) - (5:24) 120 BPM
Review: Breakbeat Paradise first released the various artists EP 'Funk Originals' back in April 2017; now, nearly three years later, it's back with a new set of remixes. The EP as a whole is very much the proverbial game of two halves: the four original tracks are aimed fair and square at lovers of "new old" funk and soul (think Speedometer, Dap Kings, etc), while the three remixes ('Stand Up' doesn't get one, oddly, but its P-funk/Zapp-isms will delight funkateers nonetheless) are altogether more squelchy and electronic-sounding, and as such will be better suited to broken beat or funk-breaks sets.

Paradise Breaks Vol IV
Various
Mako & The Hawk - "Party Going On" - (3:25) 124 BPM
Review: Although the cover of this latest instalment in the Paradise Breaks series echoes the famously trippy sleeves of '70s prog rockers like Yes, the music couldn't be more modern. Actually that said, many of the productions on here do plunder the '70s for inspiration but they choose funk over wizard's capes and that. Highlights include the mighty "Bad Mother" which combines raw soul divas vocals, wah-wah guitars and thumping break beats, J-Sounds' tight and groovy break-funk jam "On And On" and the super catchy shuffle-pop gem "Nobody Else" by Arteo. A totally mixed bag and all the better for it.

Rally In Paris EP
Bounce & Shake On Ledru Rollin - (3:58) 121 BPM Hot
Review: Originally starting as a grunge rock DJ 20 years ago, DJ Clairvo now finds himself a leading figure on the European funk-breaks scene - quite a leap indeed! What this proves of course, apart from the fact the grunge ain't no good to dance to, is that this guy has a wide appreciation of all kinds of music. Here he rustles up 6 Gallic-themed gems, highlights of which include the pacey flutes, funk and fizzy hip-hop of "Bounce & Shake On Ledy Rollin", the retro electro grind of "Vert Galant Groove" and the celebratory boogie of "Party With The Bercy Posse".

Crashgroove - "Once Again" - (3:12) 120 BPM
Review: Break Beat Paradise Recordings tend to celebratory the more celebratory side of breakbeat music. Here though, the gloves are off on this hard-hitting compilation, Big Fat Mama Beats. There are seven fresh jams to enjoy including the housed-up, ska-infused bouncer "Chinese Robots (Re-Up)" by DiscObeta, Mr Rich & The Caretaker's street tough electro breaks cover of "My Feelings For You" (originally a Gwen McRrae joint) and the urgent percussion and Middle Eastern samples of Crunch "(Scratch By DJ Craft)" by Funky Boogie Brothers. Dope!

Music Is My Life
The Fonkey Callin (vocal mix) - (3:02) 120 BPM
The Fonkey Callin (instrumental) - (3:02) 120 BPM
Review: First appearing on a Tru Funk various artists sampler, Galagad now returns with his own mini album, Music Is My Life. The formal is all about raw driving funk and chunky rolling breaks. Highlights include the Led Zeppelin-style funk rocker "The Fonky Callin", the primal and brassy "The Great Battle" and the completely different electro-pop jam "Electro Boggie".

Party Breaks Vol 1
Lets Do It - (3:26) 120 BPM
Review: In search of B Side tracks your best ports of call are labels like Big M Productions, Ghetto Funk and of course the producer's own B Side. This release sees B Side land on the prolific Breakbeat Paradise Recordings with a filter-funkin', rock-steady five-track with the block party beats of "Joy" a highlight. The disco vibes of this EP come out most on "Lets Do It", while the whole EP brims with upfront basslines and in your face rappin'.

Shake It
Shake It (feat Tarzan Bros - Skeewiff remix) - (4:04) 120 BPM
Review: Block rocking Bavarian breaks for only the most happening block parties here courtesy of Nuremberg's Jayl Funk. He collaborates with Leeds' Tarzan Bros on "Shake It" which features four versions on offer. The original features some catchy hands in the air vocals and soul guitar licks, backed by funky breaks and bass and even a brass section! The AGFA remix is more of an electronic, nu-skool breaks sound for the club. London's Skeewiff gets the perfect combination of both previous versions, injecting a fierce breakbeat for added dancefloor dynamics, but keeping the organic feel of the original. Finally Yamaha Eletrico inject an electro beat and a razor sharp bassline into it, which will appeal to fans of Whirlpool Productions, Laidback or newcomers like Will Clarke.

Wiccatron - "Jive A Lime" (Rory Hoy remix) - (3:33) 123 BPM
Review: If you're into beats and basslines then the Breakbeat Paradise label is the stuff of dreams. While many labels try to branch out into different styles and often lose their identities on the way, these guys deal solely in raucous breaks for the big room dances. While they usually release compilations by single artists, the imprint launched the first volume of the newly crowned Funk Bananas series. Coming through with a vast collection of new artists and familiar faces, these cuts are guaranteed to jump-start your Saturday evenings. Electrogorilla, Rory Hoy and many others dish out party bombshells in an old-school flavour. A mighty fine collection, indeed!

Luxury Boom Bap
Lyrical Vortex (feat Manic) - (3:30) 120 BPM
Review: Pinching the best ingredients of nu funk and hip-hop, Roast Beatz is one of the best examples of how to develop an inherent edit and bootleg heavy scene... With original grooves and some serious featured MCs. From Action Bronson to Dr Syntax to Dizzy Dustin, there are some proper names on here. And they deliver too; from Syntax's Jif and Marathon love on "Boombox" to Rider Shafiq's gravelly measured depth on "Words With Meaning", Roast Beatz cooks up timeless hip-hop at a masterchef level. Luxurious.

Love & Happyness (remixed) EP
Boogie Lover (Love & Mental remix) - (4:37) 120 BPM
Review: Mr 9Fingers gets the remix treatment: the Al Green-sampling "Love & Happiness" gets scuffed up and ruffed up by Ghetto Filth's acid attack. "Don't Wanna Stop" is a swampy slab of ghetto funk - all sparkly guitars, sludgy bass and walloping beats. "Goodie Gumdrop" takes us down the sleaziest streets where low slung grooves and fuzzy guitars rule the roost. Finally "Boogie Lover" takes us to a higher plane thanks to a slinky, strut-heavy walking bassline and a steadily progressive sense of drama that builds on every bar. Each one a party-pulveriser, feel the love today.

Funktopia EP
Party On This Side (SkeewiffAss Disco Party remix) - (4:12) 122 BPM Hot
Review: After a series of house flavoured releases, Rory Hoy flips the vibe back to the beats and bass he first made his name with. "Ass Shakers Song" lives up to its name in every possible way; bold bass grit, hype rap chants and a dramatic breakdown, if your floor aren't shaking their jacksies when you drop this you haven't played it properly. Dig deeper to find the straight-up acid attack "Get This Thing Started" and two premium remixes: a nu-funk glitch-ridden rub from Phibes and a disco funk flavoured remix of "Party On This Side" by Skeewiff. Funktopia indeed!
