Have Faith
Review: A touch of the forthcoming summer is in show with this latest run from the Breakbeat Paradise collective, welcoming the heavyweight combination of Pecoe & Boydex for four tracks of silky breaksy goodness. Opening up, we see the luscious vocal displays of Sully Sax on display as 'Have Faith' gives us a flutey sweep through emotive strings and tidy drums, followed by 'Bring The Heat', a more clunky chop through classic hip hop samples and guitar licks. Sully Sax then returns on the more nostalgia-inducing melodies of 'Disco Fever', before 'Go' closes us off with some funkadelic flavour. Awesome work!

Toxic Funk, Vol 4
Review: As always with the eminence of Breakbeat Paradise Recordings, we braced ourselves for an explosive landing on this latest offering from Second Hand Audio, who deliver the fourth edition of the 'Toxic Funk' series. We open up with the charming guitar riffs and old school singalong vocals of 'Dance To The Beat', which undeniably turns to the mood positive after just a few bars, followed by scratchy vocal samples to match. The funk levels are then increased ten-fold as 'Treacherous Love' links together classic bass riffing and more old school hip-hop vocal work, throwing us back in time to a happier place and rounding off this two-tracker with a splash of serious style.

Hard Times
Review: It's another absolute strike from the Breakbeat Paradise crew as they welcome the ever-ready sounds of BadboE to the table, delivering a vibrant original alongside a hip-shaking collection of remixes. First up, 'Hard Times' takes centre stage as shrill saxophone melodies and groove-inducing breakbeat arrangements give us a tasty original to work with, setting the mood just right for some remix action. Next up, Suckaside unloads a seriously weight refix clip, giving the track a much more dubwise feel, followed by the system-twisting bass crunches of Baxta & Boydex's overhaul, alongside Gramophone Soul's more dancefloor driven rethink. Every feature on this collection has a valid time and place, making it a very well arranged remix package!

Blessing EP
Review: Next up from the incredibly consistent catalogue of Breakbeat Paradise, we see them unveil yet another spicey box of weaponry, this time welcoming the one and only Boydex inside along with a host of guests to match. We begin with the sumptuous saxophone riffs and euphoria inducing structures of 'Burning Up' combining beautiful vocal plays from Sully Sax and tidy co-production from Baxta. From here, 'Blessings' arrives with more sweet vocal work from the very same, this time rolling out a much more funk-driven feeling, followed by a wavy co-appearance from Pecoe on the hip-hop inspired skins of 'Move Around'. Finally, 'Funky Fresh' unveils a crunkulated combination of electronic rhythm and moody drum struts, giving us one hell of a closer to round things off!

Funkin' Ya House
Review: It's always a pleasure to see new music from the Breakbeat Paradise team, who have once again unleashed a party upon us, welcoming the crunchy sounds of Sonale inside for four wizbangs. We open with the skipping drum patterns and funkadelic horn flutters of 'Funkin Ya House' before the harder hitting drum bangs of 'No Satisfaction' are let loose. The pace then slows slightly for a more intricate set of ideas as the moody bass notation of 'Shake Your Shoulders' meets uplifting horns and unpredictable rhythms for a swanky showdown, followed by the uber-groovy percussive pings of 'Start Groovin', drawing a close to high energy collection of new school breaksy goodness.

Beat Treats 2 EP
Review: You'd think James Brown's 'I Got You (I Feel Good)' had been sampled to death by now but here, Pecoe manages to lift a couple of lines from the middle eight and make them sound fresh on opener 'So Nice'. That sets the tone for an EP that's replete with party-starting funk breaks and familiar-sounding vocal and musical bites - 'My Business' marries 80s R&B diva snips to chunks of 'The Ultimatum' by US rappers Army Of The Pharaohs, while 'Gonna Do It Right' opens with 'Rock Creek Park'-esque guitar chops (though it's not actually a sample) and Kid N' Play make an unscheduled appearance on 'Funky Dope'.

Try & Buy EP
Review: Greek funk crew Nasa Funk were formed in 1999 and have two albums under their belt. This latest offering for Breakbeat Paradise begins life as a very playable lil' funker that evidences a strong Sly Stone influence, with maybe some hints of Curtis Mayfield thrown in as well, but comes accompanied by three pleasingly wide-ranging remixes, with Dal Platinum taking us down a dirtier, squelchier and more electronic funk route, TowlieDJ transforming the track into a lively roller sitting right on the D&B/funk-breaks cusp, and Crash Party pushing into leftfield beats territory on a rub that'll appeal to fans of the Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, Underworld/etc.

Stank Soul Edits Vol 6
Review: What a fabulous way to kickstart 2023 for the Breakbeat Paradise team, who welcome the sounds of both Mako & Mr Bristow for a fiery two-track display, fusing nostalgia with the new in infinite majesty. We open up the EP with the old school vocal layering of 'Stealin Alright', a proper throwback to original rock n roll drums and harmonised vocal chops, giving us a guitar lead straight out of a heist movie, topped with steel drums and an overall sensational piece of soundscaping. On the flip, more of the same era as shimmering guitar leads meet emotive string slides and colourful vocal choruses. These are two tracks you could run in a wide variety of dances, which we can't wait to witness!

House Shoes EP
Review: Once again we see a seriously vibrant return for Tha Fun Police, delivering a seriously tasty set of originals, opening up with the acidic synthetic textures and harsh drum pumps of 'House Shoes', a vibrant title track for the project to kick off with. From here, 'Breaks Shoes', gives us a more gnarly take on the original, focussing again on that enigmatic vocal sample and sharpened drum textures to match, giving us a real big room feel with the rhythmic arrangement. Finally, we dive into the blender as the one and only Kenny Beeper arrives just in time to draw the project to a close, unleashing a seriously spicy overhaul of 'Breaks Shoes', focussing on even more crunchy synth designs to match a tidy backdrop of sub pulses and atmospheric processing. Lovely work!

I Got The... EP
Review: It's always an exciting thing to see the Breakbeat Paradise team return with another hefty drop, this time welcoming the one and only Beat-Breaker inside for a sizzling exploration of modern breakbeat action. First up, 'I Got The...' is unleashed, a gnarly combination of silky synthesis and hard hitting drum work alongside MARIA, before 'Drop The Bass' gives us a crunchy combination of more lethal reese action atop euphoric chord progressions to match the occasion. From here, 'S.T.P' lets the squelchiness of synthetic loose, before Kurnel MC arrives on a funkadelic guitar-driven monster in 'Wild Style'. Finally, Melody V lends her vocal textures to 'Something That U Need', a combination of funky melody and uplifting hornlines, to put a vibrant final spin on this wicked creation.

Paradise Lounge Vol 1
Various
Review: For this latest compilation collection, we see some of the strongest names under the Breakbeat Paradise banner getting involved for the first edition of 'Paradise Lounge'. Opening up with the funkadelic bass licks of 'Rescue Me' from Boydex & Crash Party, we kick off with a serious bang. Next, Bright Idea delivers the namesake as we are treated to blissful chord progressions of 'Fun At The Disco', followed by Pecoe's super groovy 'Need A Friend' and the summer-infused tones of Jayl Funk's 'She Is Hot'. From here we find ourself dipping into the psychedelic sounds of the early 90's as Gramophone Soul delivers the spicy 'Trouble', with the heavily dubbed vocal delays of LROY's 'Soul Break' and Kakaow's sizzling swing out 'Shimmer' then closing the EP in style. Lovely stuff!

Breakin The Riddim Vol 4
Various
Review: Whenever we see the sounds of Breakbeat Paradise arriving in the store, we know for a fact that we are going to be in for a good time, especially when they revisit a series as exciting as today's. The fourth edition of their 'Breakin The Riddim' is a gem-laden experience, packed with wicked creations from the likes of BadboE, Funkin Basstards, DJ Clairvo FunkinRight & more, all adding their own unique approach to the table and giving this collection a seriously flavorsome feel. The whole project just exhales creativity in sonic design, from the rootsy overhauls of Jayl Funk's 'Come On Little Girl' to the more funkadelic refills of Pecoe's 'Bring Your Body. The variation really makes this collection special, with our favorites including TowlieDJ's vibrant overhaul of Cutty Ranks with 'Limbs', next to Sonale's LFO driven 'Exodus' redesign, taking classic Bob Marley vocals and twisting them into something completely new!

Funk Fam
Review: As always, the Breakbeat Paradise team are bang in form as they unveil yet another top quality drop, this time welcoming the explosive sounds of Boydex inside, who delivers a weighty five track collection. We open up with the bulbous bounces of 'Push it', which sees the team link up with Sully Sax & Pecoe for an old school funkadelic freak out, followed by the horn-driven title track 'Funk Fam' and disco-laced delights of 'Cosmic Funk', which also sees Stabfinger move into the collaborative harness. Two more corkers to round off then as 'Party' lets fly another dizzy display of brass and guitar combos, before the stuttered drum taps and distant vocal sampling of 'Ease Your Mind' gives us a crunchy landing to close out with. Giving Up
Review: As always with the Breakbeat Paradise team, they look to push out the boundaries of originality even further, welcoming Suckaside inside for a dizzying new single entitled 'Giving Up', featuring the wicked vocal prowess of Kurnel MC. The original version is a perfect hip hop roller, combining a euphoric chorus block with some seriously underground lyricism, with the instrumental being topped with regal string lines and big, boom-bapping drum lines to match. The project also comes complete with an up-tempo overhaul from BaeboE, who adds a few extra layers of rhythm to the party, alongside instrumental versions of both and the acapella cut, making this a must grab!

The Flora & Fond Farewell
Review: It's always a happy moment to see new Breakbeat Paradise material landing in the store, with this spicey new four-tracker from Maandala being a wicked addition. We open up with the euphoric horn work and hard hitting drum smashes of 'Coleus Switch', which sets a happy tone very quickly through its uplifting melodic approach. Next, we take things a little bit more into the future as the sweeping synthesizer slides and electronic vocal manipulations of 'Closure' unleash something a little different, before 'Monstera 5' sets the dancefloor alight with a monstrous display of synthetic bass mastery, switching between grizzly reeses and frog-like LFOs. Finally, 'Saviour, Self' delves a bit more into the electro-inspired side of breaks, deploying 80's style synth pulses and a very fun vocal sample to top everything off. Lovely work!

Review: If you are looking for a party of party-starting presents, look no further than this fiery two-tracker from the sounds of Gramaphone Soul, coming to us courtesy of Breakbeat Paradise Recordings. We open up with the old school breaks sampling and rap vocals of 'Sitting On The Bay Banger', which ties together explosive horn stabs with tidy bass action below for a dancefloor ready anthem. For The Funk EP
Review: Continuing with their fiery start to 2022, Breakbeat Paradise are back in action here with another five track display of breaksy mastery, welcoming the mythic Pecoe back inside with a serious bang. We begin with the crunchy guitar riffs and sub-busting kicks of 'For The Funk', which through a well assembled drum set does a fantastic job as the title track for this collection. From here, heavy sample work arrives on the vocals for 'Make A Miracle', topped with lively guitar riffs again, before a booming bassline and sharpened drum smashes in the higher frequency ranges cause some serious damage on 'Hands In The Air', again sitting below a sprinkling of classic hip hop vocal slices. We move into some big room horn action next as 'Positive Vibes' takes a classic Barrington verse and resamples it into a catchy jig, before rounding off on another piece of tidy sample work with 'A Good Feeling', combining eerie pads and classic vocal textures for a wicked sign off.

Review: The Breakbeat Paradise parade continues to reign strong as they welcome the sounds of Sonek inside for a dizzying display of breakbeat badness, kicking off this potent four track display with the gnarly bass drives and scattered drum punches of 'Hit The Floor', giving us an immediate impact from the first while. The pressure then intensifies as the gut-busting distortion of bassline action in 'Thinking About You' combines with more tidy vocal processing and drum slides, before 'Ain't It Funky' gives us a more scattered arrangement of hard hitting snare crunches and unpredictable bass squelches. Finally, the sizzling scratch work and horn sampling of 'Got The Wildstyle' combine with more industrial-style bass influxes and brass melodies for a killer finale. Lovely work!

Badass Funk Vol 2
Various
Review: As always with the Breakbeat Paradise Recordings crew, we are in for a treat as they unleash the full version of the second 'Badass Funk' compilation, jam-packed with colourful originals and vibrant sampling displays. Featuring eight exciting creations, the vibes stretch from the soulful sample slicing of 'Step Up' from The Breakbeat Junkie and DJP and disco-infused melodic switches of 'Dancing Mood' from Turntill, Merlin & Crosby, to the the more euphoric synth tops and bubbling drums of Ewan Hoozami's 'Rock More' and more relaxed grooves of BadboE's 'The Suicide Thing'. We also hear some tidy work from Morlack on 'Hydraulic Roof', alongside some oldschool finesse on Tosses' 'Same Old Funk'. The whole project oozes class, but our highlights have to include the scatty percussive switches and signalong melodies of B-Side and Kurnal MC's 'Each & Every Day', next to the funkadelic bass twangs of 'Funky Weekend' from Roast Beatz. Awesome stuff!

The Full Extension
Review: The Breakbeat Paradise team are up and at it again with this punchy display of breakbeat-inspired fun from FunkinRight, delivering a powerful 8 track display of original content. First, the groovy horn riffs and bulging bassline action of 'Bounce To That' set the bar pretty high as a party starting anthem, fusing electric guitar lines with synthetic energy for a real kick start of a drop. This is then followed by the electro-like melodic grooves of 'Like Dis', again utilizing powerful synthesizer processing, before 'The Full Extension' plays a solid title track role with a solid display of melodic creation and singalong vocal structure. Finally, Maandala jumps on board for one hell of a crescendo as 'Give N Get' unleashes a lethal bass synthesizer line that is sure to rip the dance to shreds, warbling away for a killer finale. This project also comes complete with instrumental mixes for each track involved, just for good measure!

Funk Anthems Vol 2
Review: Hot on the heels of September's first volume comes this second installment of contemporary funk and breaks cuts from Pecoe, an Australian who ran the popular Breakzlinkz website for 10 years before making the move into production. The EP packs five original cuts, plus remixes of four of 'em - not sure why 'Take A Stand' missed out! - with the originals falling loosely under the funk-hop/funk-breaks umbrella while the remixes generally add a little more dancefloor grit. As such, diehard funkateers may turn their noses up but fans of the Plumps, Stantons etc would do well to check this EP out.

Toxic Funk Presents Boots Of Paradise
Various
Review: It's difficult to envisage a Breakbeat Paradise drop that doesn't feature a serious tonne of quality, with this latest collection of 13 powerful creations making up the 'Boots Of Paradise' collection. The project takes a very central theme of reigniting hip hop vocals with dancefloor-ready reworks, from the classic Biggie sampling of Crash Party's 'The Juice' to the old school slicing of 'Ice Cream' from LROY and Aliens In Denmark's 'Chatty Tramp'. Even with this pretty solid central theme, the project has a lot of variation involved, from the sharpened drum punches and modernized synth slides of 'Brick Bounce' by Towlie DJ, to the more 4x4 influenced grooves of Morlack's 'Fall In Love With Me'. Our standout highlight for the whole drop would have to be Pecoe's 'Champion', which balances crunchy drums with well designed vocal sampling, which also makes it a perfect final entry.

Review: As always with Breakbeat Paradise, they have brought some serious heat to his one as we enter the 5th edition of the Stank Soul Edits series, featuring Mako & Mr Bristow. We begin with the rock & roll waves of 'Funky Diggin', which through a combination of lofi-vocal arrangements and groovy percussive inputs, delivers a flavoursome breakbeat design. Next to this, we are introduced to the horn-like harmonies and thunderous bassline bounces of 'Dynamic B-Boy' which when topped with it's nostalgic vocal line, gives us a fantastic festival closer, crescendoing left, right and centre with some colourful melodic twists. Down The Block EP
Review: Discobeta bring us two very solid nu-funk workouts that are served up in a total of seven mixes to suit various tastes. 'Down The Block' itself foregrounds the classic 1979 Spoonie G "one for treble, two for the time" sample (as used by Grandmaster Flash on 'Adventures...' a few years later), and comes with re-rubs from Fort Knox Five (pacier and jazz-tastic) and Ross Go (cut-ups and scratches galore). As for 'Yoobie Doo', the first three rubs are mostly aimed at hip-hop/funk-hop floors, but if wigged-out funk with a hint of jazz is your bag, head straight for the Pecoe Remix - it's a killer.

Review: Upbeat, unpretentious nu-disco and disco-house are the order of the day here, much along the lines of Hed Kandi's mid-noughties Disco Kandi/Disco Heaven comps. With 14 tracks to choose from there's plenty of dancefloor bang for your disco buck, and while there's undoubtedly a whiff of fromage in the air in places (Badboe's rap-vocalled, Sister Sledge/InDeep-referencing 'Best Of My Beats', for instance, isn't a million miles from a Will Smith production) there are also slightly deeper pleasures awaiting those who are prepared to dig around a bit - see, for instance, the raw disco-funk of 'Miss Broadway' or Joy Legend's Hammond-sporting 'Pass It On'.
