Soul Society EP
Soul Society (vocal) - (6:40) 120 BPM Hot
Lovin You (Shine) (vocal) - (6:45) 124 BPM
Waters Run Deep (instrumental) - (7:08) 124 BPM
Funk Isolation (instrumental) - (7:09) 126 BPM
Waters Run Deep (beatless - instrumental) - (6:12) 80 BPM
Review: Dutch techno and electro veteran, Orlando Voorn has been even more prolific than usual of late, delivering must-check EPs on Kompakt, Bombis and Bad Manners. Voorn's new outing on Burek, a Croatian label that's genuinely going places, is rather good too, though musically far more colourful, funky and house-influenced than we've come to expect. Check first sweet, summery and boogie-influenced opener 'Soul Society', before getting your ears around the heady piano-house stomp of 'Lovin' You (Shine)' - a superb slab of celebratory retro-futurism - and the warming haziness of twinkling deep house cut 'Waters Run Deep'. Elsewhere, 'Funk Isolation' adds undulating bass guitar, swirling chords and bleeping 8-bit melodies to a hot-steppin' house beat, while 'Waters Run Deep (Beatless)' reinvents that track as an ultra-deep drift through ambient space.

The Show EP
Tomorrow - (5:52) 120 BPM Hot
Journey - (4:59) 120 BPM
No One Like U - (5:30) 120 BPM
Enter The Disco - (4:46) 115 BPM
Review: Whether serving up devilishly drowsy deep house and sun-kissed downtempo grooves, Detroit stalwart Brian "Javonntte" Garrett can do no wrong. Further proof arrives via "The Show EP", which marks the Motor City producer's first outing on Burek. We're particularly enjoying "Journey", where Garrett's own seductive, soulful vocals drift across bustling beats, seductive strings, warm keys and thickset synth-bass. Others, though, may prefer the elastic beats, snaking synth-sax, booming bass and cheeky James Brown samples of "Tomorrow", the dreamy soulful house shuffle of "No One Like You" or the Skyy-sampling deep house bliss of closing cut "Enter The Disco". Basically, every track's a winner - as you'd expect given his track record - and you'd be a fool not to snap up the EP.

Reborn Rhythms EP
Deep House Thang (instrumental) - (8:43) 125 BPM
Deep House Thang (vocal) - (8:34) 124 BPM
Get Down - (8:58) 125 BPM
The Message - (8:16) 125 BPM Hot
Review: Despite boasting a fittingly deep discography, Chicago veteran Gene Hunt rarely drops a duff release. Predictably, "Reborn Rhythms" - his first outing on Burek - is another four-track treat. "Deep House Thang", which is available in both Instrumental and Vocal mixes, sounds like a bossa-nova-influenced, jazz-funk-flecked deep house collaboration between Glenn Underground, Amp Fiddler and Kenny Dixon Jnr, which I think we can all agree is high praise. "Get Down" is a slightly more driving but no less out there affair - think elastic bass guitar, spaced-out vocals and subtle nods to classic disco-funk cuts - while closer "The Message" is a borderline breathtaking fusion of driving deep house, layered Latino percussion, heavy sub-bass and smooth chords.

Leko (Remixes)
Leko (Kink's Bass Shake version) - (4:03) 123 BPM
Leko (Rachel Row Feat. Kink version) - (3:44) 123 BPM
Leko (Session Victim remix) - (5:25) 122 BPM Hot
Leko (original version) - (6:32) 123 BPM
Review: Originally released back in 2012 on Croatian imprint Burek, "Leko" by Bulgarian hardware maverick KiNK returns to the label with some fantastic remixes for today's dancefloors. While his sound might be more on the techno tip these days, there's no doubt that his penchant for catchy melodies and amazing chord progressions were something he had a true knack for even back then. He hands in a couple more perspectives here: from the gritty and harder hitting Kink's Bass Shake version, though to the mellow and dreamy Kink version featuring the angelic vocals of Rachel Row. Finally the Berlin-Hamburg alliance known as Session Victim step in for an always welcome appearance: their exploration further into the deep is evocative and life-affirming.

Take Me There - (6:07) 115 BPM

Review: Long standing Zagreb label Burek has been blazing a trail of late with records from Aybee and Esa as well as their nautically minded offshoot Barba which has put out some fine electro from Stingray, Marco Bernardi and FBK. The first Burek release of 2016 brings the focus back to a production hero of Croatia in the always excellent Ilija Rudman. Active for well over a decade, Rudman's Burek debut is disco flecked- house music at its slick and effervescent best, with the slinky, low tempo vibe of A-side hogger "Higher Ground" complemented by a pair of collaborations with US house music royalty Boyd Jarvis.
