C4C Recordings

Since the very start, C4C have been widely respected, no matter what they have turned their hands to. Their first release was on the mighty Moving Shadow, and it wasn’t long until they put their creative heads together, and started their own seminal imprint. That label, C4C Recordings, has seen releases and remixes from some amazing artists, including Audio, Prolix, Black Sun Empire, Mindscape, Teebee, Gydra, Matrix, IHR and more, and, as artists themselves. One of their finest moments came with the issue of the Pandemic album in 2008, further cementing their reputation for awe-inspiring, high quality music.
C4C’s sound is a story of contrasts. From the light to the dark, but deeper, and deeper still, they blend the seemingly simple with the highly intricate. Crystalline drums mix with warming, liquid bass notes. C4C are, and have never been, about any one thing, but add elements to their palette which are least expected. Their music shines with brilliance, being sharply original and experimental at all times. Deep, nearly spiritual grooves mix easily with a nose for the dancefloor. You have to listen to fully understand.
C4C stand as warriors in an ever-changing scene. Their importance has never been more apparent than now. They represent something pure, something unsullied in their approach to music making, all united by a desire and an ability to move the crowd, mind, body and soul. Causing a disturbance, causing a reaction, and causing one and all to sit up and take notice.

Disciple - (4:26) 174 BPM
Ignition - (4:19) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Heavyweight neuro sounds from the US: Dropset hits the hallowed halls of C4C with two disgusting workouts. 'Disciple' brings a little technoid / sci-fi bizzle into the blend thanks to its chugging arpeggiated bassline. 'Ignition' meanwhiles plays much more of a piledrive move with its vast wall of sound and textures hitting you from every angle. Classic C4C energy done in a modern way, Dropset is onto something special here.

Review: The epic Optiv tribute trilogy reaches its final knockout punch with this incendiary parting gesture... 'Legacy'. Following 'Origins' and 'Evolution', 'Legacy' is a 14 track shout to the future powered by the skills and sounds of the new generation who carry Optiv's dark funk flag into the future. Featuring the likes of TR Tactics, Burr Oak, Mean Teeth, Zombie Cats, Tobax & Dextems, Killbreak, Kolectiv and many more talented soul, you can call it tech, you can call it neuro 2.0, you can call it a celebration of everyone Optiv empowered, inspired and helped up the ranks before his tragic departure in 2020. Rest in peace!

Review: The celebration of Optiv's influence continues as C4C pay tribute to his legacy and the huge hole his tragic passing has left in the game with the second of this trilogy album series Stories. Just like the 'Origins' chapter, 'Evolution' features a whole range of major league artists who've all been influenced by the late great Cause 4 Concern founder. Break, Kolectiv, Current Value, IHR, Task Horizon, Audio, Malux and so many more brilliant souls all deliver exclusive goods to the album as C4C raise money for Optiv's sons. RIP.

Review: The start of a vital trilogy of albums made in memory and celebration of Optiv's legacy and influence, Stories is a three part album that memorialises a genuine tech funk legend who passed away far too soon. Complete with exclusives from the likes of Ed Rush, dBridge, Kemal, Kiljoy, Dom & Roland, Skynet and many more, the tense, industrial strength vibe and dark energy of the album is a direct salute to Optiv's signature and the start of one of the most important VA albums of 2022. All profits go to Optiv's children, too.

What Lies Ahead LP Part 1
Gemini - (6:34) 58 BPM
Invisible Things - (5:46) 58 BPM Hot
Review: The long-time collaborators Optiv & CZA are back on C4C with a naughty, naughty single that alludes to a forthcoming project. What that project is we're not entirely sure, but either way, if this single is anything to go by, it's going to be wicked. 'Gemini' is just insanely good, with a solid bed of percussion that grounds the entire tune in moody junglist sonics and a punching, stabby bassline that reminds us of the old Renegade Hardware days. The flip - 'Similar Things' - is similar drum wise but manages to ramp up the tension even more before it cuts off into a groaning, heaving mass of basses. Unreal.

Review: C4C Recordings are celebrating 20 years soon and this album is their celebration: a mammoth 40 tunes of hard-hitting neuro goodness to warm your bones and rattle your face holes. The list of producers present on this album is pretty exhaustive and, perhaps some high-profile exceptions aside, every single neurofunk producer you could want is here. Dub Elements land on their feet with the exceptional 'Beasts Abode', a slightly less frantic but equally venomous tune compared with lots of other offerings. Other highlights come from ChaseR, Current Value and Agressor Bunx and the whole album is special - go check it.

Optiv & CZA - "Dead Beat" (Malux remix) - (4:15) 175 BPM
Played by: Hex
Review: Skope's alter-ego Malux continues to chomp into the tech D&B spheres with gusto. Following his insane remix of Billain this year comes his debut on Cause4Concern's C4C imprint. One original, one remix. Naturally from such a camp they're premium, uncut gear: "False" is a whirling rolling with layers of stretched bass textures over a dangerous electrical current groove. "Dead Beat", meanwhile, sees him repurposing Optiv & CZA's 2014 wood-block mindwarper into more of a funkier cut with swaggering sandpaper bass and awesome twists on the fills. Nine thumbs up.

Review: Fast-paced and full of intricate tweaks, neurofunk maestro Maztek's latest release features not one but two bigger than huge remixes of Cause4Concern tracks. Anybody crazy enough to take on his work should automatically become the stuff of drum and bass legend, so pay attention. Opting for more laid-back, junglist sounds in "Outlands", the techy onslaught continues in slick roller "Slap It" and rounds off with a feast for the ears with his take on "Lowlife". Packing it full of sound design quirks and meticulously crafted pops, it's not to be overlooked. Keep your eyes on this one.
