CARNIBAL 016
Played by: Clairvo (MustBeat)
Review: Greek label Carnibal flirted with the electro-swing thing early on but by now on their 16th release, they have settled into a more tropical/Latin groove. This latest collection features four artists who are simply bursting with creativity. First up is Nirso with the Hispanic hip-hop grind of "4 Meninas", next we get a folk/baile/tropical crossover jam, "Road To Ayounda" by YEAHMAN!, then some sultry and possibly ritualistic cumbia vibes on Timboletti's "E Ele Demoragy". Lastly, we get the searing, intense percussive moods of "Declaration Of War" by Hammond Classics. A thrilling EP.

Hasta La Wiggle Remixed
Review: Last year Greek duo Panama Cardoon released their Hasta La Wiggel album, a selection of music that combined broken beat and folky melodies with nu jazz, dub and rapped vocals sung in a choral similar to Nelly Furtado. Their style is now remixed for the hot nights of a Latin summer, with Rafael Aragon turning in a perfect remix to close a night with. Giorgos Bratanis's Cayetano project delivers a percussive clink that chimes in his remix to "Desoes", while English language makes an appearance in a 'dirty dog' funked-out, calypso and soulful rework to "Don't Let Me Go" - as for a drum and bass addition, leave that to Katakana Edits signing Vida G.

Carnibal 012
Carnibal 012EXCLUSIVE
Review: Last year Greek label Carnibal took a risk and released a compilation featuring not their electro-swing and hip-hop sounds, but tunes with a Latin American influence. The risk paid off and now we have a new EP from DJ Inko. Originally one of the artists featured on the aforementioned release, here Inko has the freedom of four tracks to showcase his talents. It's a healthily, varied listen too, covering chirpy party anthems ("Te Quiero"), brassy Mexicana romps ("Abekabe"), feisty Brazilian house ("Mi So Bailar") and best of all the darkly hypnotic jungle body music of "Zulu".

Carnibal 010EXCLUSIVE
Review: Palov & Panama Cardoon launched Greek label Carnibal in 2012 and have been successfully 'shuffling the traditional sounds with the modern beats' ever since. Here on their 10th release they shift focus from the electro-swing and hip-hop approach of previous transmissions, concentrating on the sounds of Latin America instead. It's a tropical and topical romp too, with highlights including the hypnotic vintage cumbia haze of DJ Inko's "La Cadencia", the fizzing electro reggaeton of Vida G's "Cumbida" and the skewed disco-funk of "Orere" by Umoja.

Hasta La Wiggle
Review: Despite being a staple on the Carnibal release schedules, this is the first non-compilation release for Panana Cardoon since Oye! back in 2011. Recent material included the breaky Eurodance of Bosporus Thief, but here on "Hasta La Wiggle" we get a different mix, including Latin shuffle-core ("Senor Pepe"), breaky vintage movie soundtrack funk ("Monica"), feelgood pop-reggae ("Upnaked") and even the reggaeton hip-hop hybrid "Don't Let Me Know".

Carnibal 008
Review: Greek electro-swing label Carnibal bring more heat with their eighth release, a label comp featuring a host of familiar names. On "Bosporus Thief", Panama Cardoon delivers an electro-house style jam, but with extra chunky beats and enchanting Turkish melodies. Senor Griff works his magic on "Ni Aae Na Vilayat Kuriay" resulting in a pleasantly bizarre electro/cumbia/Bollywood hybrid. Hammond Classics provides a catchy electronic reggae joint "Stepping Higher" and only Pavlov seems to stick with the Latino-isms for his "Bedbug".

Carnibal 007
Review: For this release, Greek electro-swing label Carnibal don their best man from Del Monte hat and jet (well, use a propeller plane) over to Havana for some vintage Latino thrills. Here Carnibal regulars Palov and Panama Cardoon team up for the lazy, steel drums and trumpet romp of "Vamos", Moetrik conjures up the Three Amigos on the traditional sounding "El Carino!", it's a cumbia-samba hybrid on Hammond Classics' "Cumbiamba" and Senor Griff rounds things up with the more modern, cumbia/moobahton-style roller "Cerro Rico".

Review: The electro-swing bug has caught on in Greece judging by this fledgling Hellenic label's sixth release. Palov is a veteran DJ from Athens, and here he flexes his production muscles over four tracks. "Moving Next Door" takes an old Louis Prima-style trumpet sample and teases it out over four and a half minutes to great effect. "Bandido" is more upbeat and features sassy vocals from Monique Maion, "Captain Pandelis" displays a more hip-hop groove and features the voice of an old-skool crooner. Lastly "Waste Of The Time" manages to successfully fuse vintage swing band sounds with reggae!

Carnibal 005
Review: The latest in this series of releases from the Greek label sees a mix of mashed up hip hop and jazz, such as on the Balkan swing of Palov's "That's All Folks" and Doctor Stereo's "Let's Begin The Show". Also well worth checking out is Monetrik's soul gem "Barbeque".

Review: The latest from the Greek label Carnibal sees their stars Plaov and Panama Cardoon lend their nu-funk and Latin/cumbia production skills to an epic version f "Popcorn", as well as fusing in hip hop/bashment energy on "Summer of a Fool".
