Review: Power to the purple! Just in the last few months alone Magenta has dented our souls with killer releases on the likes of Pick N Mix, Informal, Next:Gen Audio, Low Down Deep and Invicta Audio. And that's just since clubs re-opened here in the UK. Now comes this disgusting stinker session on Cave. Three tracks, three heart attacks, we kick off with 'Something', a prowling, cat-like piece of jump-up that manages to both scram and purr at the same time. Deeper into the EP we go wild to the angular scratches and scrapes on the doobie-sparking grot-fest 'R.I.P' before getting naughty to the gnarly sandpaper funk of 'Hotel Bop'. Turn it up.
Review: Cave has rapidly become a must-follow imprint ever since its launch, and Maurizzle has taken to it like a duck to water. This single is his first release on the label and The Wonder maintains the high standard we've come to expect from the producer. It's rough and tumble rolling goodness, and 'Wonder' represents this mission statement with devastating clarity, as resonant synths give way to penetrating percussion and a growling, tendril-like bassline. 'Obsession' has a wicked new-school vibe to the drum line but it's bassline is as futuristic as they come; vicious bulges pushing left and right with a visceral sense of movement. Potent, potent stuff.
Review: Fresh from a whole slew of savagery on Young Guns and Bio Beats, Yung Toxinate lays the smack down on Cave with three naughty naughty numbers. 'Illegal Narcotics' will spin you out with its laser basses and gun loads, 'Whispers' screams sweet everythings in your ears by way of a pitched up vocal and a warped, molten bassline sizzle before 'Clueless' sees the Cornish act tagging in with Nautik for a trippy, tripletty finale that has more questions than answers. Get high off Toxinate's supply.
Review: Sol is turning things upside down on this one with the help od OHNO, and their joint efforts through Cave have bred a dastardly heavy three-track EP that's got more guts than a butcher. 'Trick Room' is the most unique of the bunch, its tapestry of glowing synth lines leading gently into a magical concoction of witch like stabs and burning embers, there's club-readiness on full display and Sol has well and truly killed it. 'Run It Out' featuring OHNO is the other highlight and it's well worth your time.
Review: Cave is another one of very prolific, very consistent jump up labels who are riding high the wave of fervour spreading through that side of the scene at the moment. For this week's instalment of their mission to madness, they've got Yoteii on board for this riotous four-tracker. 'Megatron' leads you in with hypnotic instrumentation, before laying them out over a subby, rolling drum break, complete with some naughty stabs. 'The Buzz' takes things up a notch in terms of craziness, its squelching, grating bass notes hit all the spots and we're very, very into it. Top EP.
Review: Every now and then, you just want a release that slams start to finish. No frills, no pretence of trying to be something that it isn't, just solidly banging D&B that gets your head nodding and your feet moving. Monss has done that here and this single is a run of attitude-packed jump up, all of which would sound fat through a sound system. 'Serial Killer' is a highlight, bright light synths and god vibes leading you in into a fluttering array of bouncy sonics and boom-bap drum hits, a vibe that's quickly transferred across into 'Too Emergency Call' - snapping percussive hits, moody bass notes and melody that oozes power.
Review: After a series of crucial free downloads, prominent online jump up hub Jump Up Cave level up with a full digital label Cave. They're launching in style, too as west coast roustabouts Sub Killaz light the fuse. Two tunes, two vibes, one heavy message: "Hold On" is all pneumatic kicks, slime sub harmonics and gritty stabs on the fills while "Panic" lives up to its name with a higher-toned riff that sizzles with proper mischief. One for the Cave mandem...
