Lean Back
Lean BackEXCLUSIVE
Lean Back - (5:44) 140 BPM
Alarmed - (5:49) 93 BPM Hot
Lucy - (5:42) 140 BPM
Review: Powerful sonic slappage from Brighton badman Jook. Sitting somewhere between grime, dubstep and tech funk, all three cuts live to up the Certified Banger status. "Lean Back" is all about the tightly cut stabs that wrap themselves around the stop/start kicks and snares, "Alarmed" is all about the wobbles and is just waiting for a fiery flow of MC damage while "Lucy" shows us Jook's softer, star-gazing side thanks to velvet arpeggios and some really interesting sample textures buried deep among the beats.

Dickhead Maneuvers EP
Dickhead Maneuvers - (3:41) 140 BPM Hot
Shiv Riddim - (4:04) 136 BPM
Review: And the award for best track title of the year goes to.... "Dickhead Maneuvers". Not just a zeitgeist capturing anti-bants protest song, but a crude, toxic bass banger to boot. With a really quirky piano line and a self-co-signing vocal signature (think what Roska used to do but better), everything is in place for the silly bass to do some real damage. The straight up dark-stepper "Shiv Riddim" also lives up to its name; get too close and it will cut you. No question.

OverPowered EP
OverPowered - (5:00) 64 BPM Hot
12345 - (5:00) 128 BPM
My Monster - (5:00) 64 BPM
Review: It takes all of about 2.5 seconds of listening to the Overpowered EP to clock that Nottingham label Certified Bangers live by their name! New signing Blacktip adheres to their 'no nonsense' mantra by delivering three molten bass bombs that are purely devised to cause maximum party damage. The title track is a raw growler, with snarling loops of wobble bass and irritable hi-hats and "12345" is given mean, vintage 4x4 makeover. Finally "My Monster" wraps things up with hip-hop influences, snippets of kitsch 50s B-movies samples and bass attack patterns.

The First
The FirstEXCLUSIVE
The First - (4:46) 134 BPM
Butterfly - (4:53) 134 BPM Hot
Review: When Plastician dropped one of Kiri (Leeds) and Grafta's (Newcastle) new collaborations live on Rinse FM, he had to confess that he had no idea how to categorize the other worldly sounds the pair have created. The two tracks featured on this debut EP are a fresh assault on the ears, mark our words! First up, we get the brooding menace of the title track which takes dubstep as it's starting block before letting rabid percussion out of it's cage. Next up, "Butterfly" knocks it out of the park with aggressive basslines, garagey beats creepy vox and doomy chords.

Telling You EP
Telling You - (5:21) 134 BPM Hot
Need You - (6:01) 134 BPM
Review: Midland murker Holy Goof has already created some neat momentum as a DJ with appearances at the likes of Butterz and Jamz. Now he makes his EP debut with two defiantly gritty bassline house scud missiles. "Telling You" thunders with industrial strength 4/4 beats and a bitter bassline that worms with detuned grit. "Need You" flips the vibe with a little more organ action, more focus on the vocal while retaining the toxic darkness he's becoming known. Heavy.
