Late EP
Late (Jive Talk remix) - (7:54) 114 BPM
Review: Funkwise is the studio alias of Bali-dwelling British DJ/producer Adam Wise. With over a decade's experience behind the decks, he made the move into production in 2019, and here he returns with a three-tracker for the Cheeks label. Up first is 'Late', a funk-fuelled deep houser with a big, fat squelchy bassline at its heart. That's followed by 'Danger Danger', another mid-paced affair which blends funk, disco and house influences, and which sports a jaunty, jazzy lil' keys riff and some fine space disco stabs. Completing the EP is the Jive Talk Remix of 'Late', which takes us into full-on early 80s electrofunk nostalgia mode.

Loving You
Loving You (Jive Talk remix) - (7:54) 115 BPM
Review: London's Chris Trowbridge comes to the mysterious Cheeks with a fine contemporary disco number that's served in two contrasting but complementary mixes. Head for the original if its authentically 70s-sounding vibes you're after: drenched in strings, guitar and brass, 'Loving You' could have been dropped at The Loft or Paradise Garage and no one would have batted an eyelid, while the accompanying Jive Talk Remix is a much more obviously post-house affair. So essentially, you've got one mix aimed at clubs like Horse Meat Disco, and one for places like Glitterbox... which should be enough to ensure this gets plenty of dancefloor rotation for the next month or two!

Wanna Think About It
Wanna Think About It (Tech Support remix) - (4:32) 117 BPM
Played by: Ladies On Mars
Review: The third missive on recently launched nu-disco imprint Cheeks comes from Bear, a producer with few other credits to his name. In fact, we think this is his or her debut single. In its original form "Wanna Think About It" is a warm and woozy chunk of feel-good disco that seems to combine sections of a classic 1970s cuts with new drums and colourful instrumentation. The "Tech Support Remix" brilliantly re-imagines it as a sun-kissed chunk of synth-heavy nu-disco complete with bright new lead lines and a druggy, Moroder-style arpeggio bassline, while fellow Cheeks artist Jive Talk wraps spacey noises, disco samples and squelchy synth-bass around a swinging, breakbeat style rhythm.
