Review: After EPs for Hot Haus and Fiero, Stockholm native Clea Herl?fsson comes to Seb Wildblood's Church with four tracks of deep house from the more cerebral and leftfield side. 'Gothic Girl' grabs the attention from the outset, with haunting keys joined by energetic 4/4s, wonky stabs and, later, some nostalgic rave-y breaks. 'I Want To Stay' is a more laidback affair that nods towards Goldfrapp/Florence-esque art-pop, 'Leon Stone' is a sparse, brooding cut built on a breakbeat foundation, while finally the stripped, twitchy 'Wan Chai' could find favour on deeper techno and prog floors with its Detroit-y drums and overall menacing air.
Review: Filled with crackling samples of dust coated vinyl, rusty brass horns and warm house sentiments wrapped up in the sooty atmospheres of field recordings and old school instrumental hip hop vibes, Hobie returns with Strugglebus Vol 1. It follows the artist's Espresso Depresso debut from two years ago with this release dialing up nostalgic and instrumental jazz numbers that sooth and invoke waves of nostalgia. A lush waltz through a technicolor dreamscape of analogue sound, re-imagined samples, MPC beat making and emotive tones. All aboard the Strugglebus.
