Glass Stabs/Disruption
Review: An alumnus of labels including Permanent Vacation and All City Records, Irish producer New Jackson returns to Fort Romeau's Cin Cin stable in the company of fellow label regular Will Lister, and between them they've come up with a very varied four-tracker. Opener 'Glass Stabs' is garage-y and organ-led, but 'Moonfeel', which follows, is an altogether synthier affair with a wonked-out, experimental feel. 'Disruption' shares much of its sound palette with the latter but has a more euphoric, blissed-out-in-Ibiza kinda vibe, while finally 'Windblown' starts out in slo-mo territory but then breaks out frenetic drum machine beats and lashings of bubblin' acid.

Jack Come Back/LakE
Review: Hot Chip founder and one-half of The 2 Bears Goddard teams up with London-based producer Alex Warren on a four-track EP that demonstrates the pair's shared love of vintage Chicago house and Detroit techno sounds. Goddard's 'Jack Come Back' centres around a 303 bassline, 909 drum hits and a spoken/chanted vocal intoning the title, while the Detroit-y 'Moebius Trip' is pacier BPM-wise, yet somehow still more reflective in feel. As for Warren's contributions, 'LakE' tops a dark, 303-tinged backdrop with stuttering cut-up vox that sound almost tribal, while 'KatE', the most contemporary-sounding cut here, is all insistent, live-sounding bass, synth swirls and disembodied vocal fragments.

Natural States/Base
Played by: Marcus Marr
Review: Cin Cin are pleased to present their eighth instalment and it's what they themselves best coined as 'a down under double header!' First up are Melbourne's Statue who give us a pair of percussive workouts engineered for maximum hip wiggling. "Base" nailing that classic house sound from the synths to the drum machines while "Face" goes for a more funky balearic vibe. Then fellow Melburnians Ara Koufax take us for a swim with two prime time cuts of pseudo-psychedelic acid nouveau. The noisy "Natural States" features some rich and spangling arpeggios over tough rhythm patterns while "Test Dream" is more fierce but inadvertently nails that Kompakt dreamy and evocative style of house.
