Review: There seems to be a constant wave of newcomers and hot debutants this week, with the Circular Jaw imprint coming through with the provoking and innovative sounds of Hedchef, a producer who already seems destined to pop up on our charts every other week. "Cry Havoc" is a veritable bass-banger, unleashing nothing but blazing-hot drums and grizzly levels of low frequencies over a broken rhythm, while "MRI" backs up its cavernous blend of sonics with a fast, relentless techno beat that pushes hard, and "Shock Generator" heads back to that ominously mannered percussion flex that seems to fully represent the power of Hedchef!

Review: There seems to be no shortage of bass talent from Leeds these days, and this new EP from Phrixus on Circular Jaw is loose and odd enough to grab our attention instantly. The opener is a double-act from Phrixus and Zealey, a minimal UK hip hop banger, but the rest of the EP unfolds with the help of bizarre and otherworldly sounds in the same vein as labels like Night Slugs. "Endromatt" is actually our favourite on here, a collection of bleeps and sirens barely held together by a rippling beat structure, but you should also check out other smokin' tunes like the eerie and dubbed-out "Prism Of Fate", or the fiery stepper that is "Expanse Of Your Energy". Sick.
