Review: Alan Abrahams' latest full-length excursion as Portable, 'Augmented Dreams', is a concept album of sorts, with the Paris-based South African apparently drawing creative inspiration from "the use of everyday technological advancements to achieve what were once only dreams or visions of past generations". Regardless of the inspiration, it's another terrific album from the long-serving artist - a tactile, evocative and atmospheric excursion full to bursting with memorable moments. For proof, check gorgeous opener 'The Pull of Time', which (like much of the album) joins the dots between deep house and the string-laden synth-pop of Kelley Polar, the gently acid-flecked shuffle of 'Parallax', the hazy dancefloor hypnotism of 'Begin Again', the soft-touch soul of 'I Need You' and the leftfield synth-pop bubbliness of 'Augmented Dreams'.

Guiding Me
Guiding Me - (7:04) 122 BPM
Guiding Me (Lawrence remix) - (6:49) 122 BPM Hot
Vigor - (7:00) 126 BPM
Review: Portable first popped up on Circus Company late last year with My Sentient Shadow, a full-length excursion informed by atmospheric elcetronic house and minimalistic club cuts. On this follow-up EP, the London-based South African takes a similar sonic approach. 'Guiding Me' is wonky and off-kilter in the best possible way, with minor key motifs, minimal techno electronics, tipsy chords and a woozy lead vocal riding a great minimal house groove. Lawrence takes the track further into sub-heavy, Berlin-style minimal techno territory on his dubby and spaced-out remix, before Portable rounds things off via bonus cut 'Vigor', a TB-303 sporting, acid-flecked tech-house workout that's as druggy and mind-mangling as they come.

Review: Originally a limited, cassette-only release via fellow Canadian Eddie C's Red Motorbike, the Parisian label Circus Company presents The Mole's latest album for the first time digitally. The River Widens is a collection of 21 works that tick all the boxes, covering a wide range of moods and grooves, many of them quite short in length with the exception of some extended tracks streamlined for the dancefloor. Ones such as the hypnotic beatless disco of "New Family", the late night mood music of "Repepepater" (feat Joli B) in particular gets deep, through to the quirky microgroove of "Ufos Over Egypt" (feat Cristobal) or the breathtaking and glassy-eyed ambient of closer "Being A Total Warm Up" are just some of many choice selections.
