Review: Last month, Connaisseur dropped a label debut from Cheema, an Italian DJ/producer renowned from "bringing the cultural traditions of Puglia to the club". We're not particularly well read on what those cultural traditions may be, but that EP was very good - as is this speedy sequel. Rooted in the cosmic disco tradition, 'Daunia Disko' is a head-nodding stroll through 100 BPM electronic disco pastures rich in hip-hop style breaks, razor-sharp acid bass, clipped guitar licks, saucer-eyed female vocal snippets and mind-mangling electronics. It's infectious and addictive in the best possible way. The accompanying remix is an altogether sweatier and more celebratory proposition, as Of Norway (Oslo twosome Vegard Wolf Dyvik and Carl Christian Streenstrup) re-imagine the track as a funky, acid-flecked slab of nostalgic piano house insanity.

Review: Cheema's bio describes the Italian DJ/producer as the "human instrument that brings the cultural traditions of Puglia into the club". In practice, that means tracks that combine his own beats and electronics with contributions from a wide range of musicians and studio collaborators. 'Jis Matt' is his first outing on Connaisseur and sees him slowly eke out an ambient style strings-and-Tabla intro before ushering in warming bass, toasty electric piano chords, Indian vocals and hybrid deep house/tech-house beats. The accompanying '1979 Mix' is more tailored to peak-time dancefloors, with a chunkier and more hypnotic groove, looped electronics, and a genuinely spine-tingling breakdown midway through the track.

Review: Blindsmyth's "All That Fiberglass" album, released in February 2022, has been met with much love from fans and DJs alike, with several tracks finding their way onto playlists and charts. Connaisseur, known for their remix releases following an album, has once again curated a diverse collection of remixes for Blindsmyth's originals, now being released in four parts as 'Refiberd Vol. 3' The first installment of remixes is led by Norwegian duo Ost & Kjex, who deliver a banging remix of "Connection Error," infusing their trademark blend of techno, electro, and disco to create a standout track with a demanding bassline and relentless energy. Adding some bouncy deep house vibes, South African-based producer Deep Aztec brings a feel-good and danceable remix of "Delete Your Cloud," masterfully weaving together melodic basslines, organic percussions, and infectious vocal samples. Review: Last month, Connaisseur delivered a tidy, three-track EP featuring remixes of cuts from Blindsmyth's 2022 album 'All That Fiberglass'. This partner release features another trio of inspired revisions of tracks from that set. The mighty Adana Twins step up first, brilliantly re-imagining the album's title track as a moody, bass heavy peak-time house workout featuring suspenseful synth strings, vocoder vocals and ear-catching piano riffs. Schtu's rework of 'Die Tiefe' is a deep, drowsy and atmospheric tech-house treat with tactile melodic flourishes aplenty, while the Borneo revision of 'Remember The Days' is a sweet, glassy-eyed treat in which gorgeous chords, subtly soulful vocals and twinkling pianos rise above a densely percussive house groove.

Review: Since 2014, Simon Schmidt aka Blindsmyth has been a freelance artist, producer, live act, and DJ based in Berlin. His latest release comes out via Frankfurt's esteemed Connaisseur titled Refiberd Vol 1, which features remixes from his second album All That Fiberglass that came out last year. The inimitable Floyd Lavine delivers an Afrofuturistic techno funk rework of "Remember The Days", Macho Cutie's Shit Disco Mix of "Transhuman" takes the track into elevating territory with its rich tapestry of melodies and 303 acid underpinned by tribal rhythms, plus there's Imperieux's off-kilter and experimental Reconstruction of "Emotion Per Byte".

Review: Next up from the Connaisseur Germany team, Norway give us a dip into the more futuristic side of breaks as they explore a very cool selection of unpredictable sonic themes across three eye-opening originals. The title track 'Dolphins' is a truly magnificent creation, focussing on grizzly synthetic drives and warbling pad-driven arpeggios, to give us a euphoric yet stripped back creation. Next, the more aquatic synthesizer runs, distorted overlays and slowly opening and closing atmospheric stabs of 'Urchin' allow us to dive even deeper into the production mindset of Norway, before rounding off with 'Shoal'. The more unpredictable, melancholy harmonies of this one give us another exciting twist, as the EP draws to an enigmatic close!

Review: Sometime Diynamic Music contributor Blindsmyth (real name Simon Schmidt) is renowned as a musical explorer, with his various releases to date flitting between styles whilst remaining rooted in electronica and dusty, experimental synth-pop. All That Fiberglass, his second album, continues in this vein, sitting somewhere between the heady, off-kilter electronica of James Holden and Jon Hopkins, the opaque synth-pop bliss of the Junior Boys and the kind of melodious, semi-glitchy tech-house that's so prevalent right now. It's a successful musical blend all told, with the album's flow and feel enhanced by Schmidt's occasional excursions into both ambient melancholia and James Blake style experimental pop.

Review: Daso Franke never released an album during his lifetime. He finalized this now posthumous set just weeks before he passed away from cancer last year, and Connaisseur is releasing it "to complete his legacy" at the request of the prolific producer's parents. It would be fair to say that "Daso" is a fitting tribute and includes some of the German's most potent work. As you'd expect, it's a poignant, drowsy and at times melancholic affair, with Franke supplementing his usual dusty deep house and hypnotic, locked-in tech-house cuts with unusual but inspired forays into ambient, ultra-deep electronic pop (see Anouk Visee collaboration "Cotton"), deep and dreamy breakbeat and weightless, intergalactic electronica (the impeccable, heart-aching "My Pony" and "Ecotranse").

Review: Offenbach tech house institution Connaisseur are back with some tremendous deep house grooves again courtesy of local duo Shayde. Comprised of Richard Hoetter and Philipp Lenz, the duo create wonderful music based on the former's long honed musicianship and the latter's know how in sound engineering on the Obergeschoss EP. The title track is an evocative and bittersweet affair featuring Christian Rottler's emotional vocal delivery in German language, while the upbeat "Ein Mann Sieht Rhodes" gets deep on a jazzy and soulful tip that's perfect for some uplifting moments on the dancefloor late at night.

Review: Mr Tea is Michael Devin, a veteran UK producer from Liverpool that now resides in San Francisco. Over the years, he has collaborated with legends such as Andrew Weatherall and Jagz Kooner and released on imprints such as Leftfield's Hard Hands, Engrave Ltd, Discotexas and Paper Recordings. His new full length comes courtesy of long running Offenbach based institution Connaisseur - who present Make Yourself At Home. It features nine offerings of sleek tech house grooves. From the moody bounce of dynamic opener "Schnick Schnack Schnuck", the sun-kissed melodicism of "Asking For a Friend" to the evocative/balearic-tinged ambient bliss of "Tears In The Sun", this is truly a cohesive effort.

Review: Mr Tea is the alias for Michael Devin and on Asking, which is a taster for his debut album, he demonstrates why he is such a respected new producer. The title track revolves around crisp drum beats, a loose funk bass and organ playing that bring the listener on an epic voyage. Add in just the right amount of tripped out acid and you've got a proper cosmic arrangement. By contrast, "Syncing" is more stripped back and sees him focus on a jittery electro rhythm and squelchy bass. Connaisseur has also commissioned a number of remixes of the title track. Johannes Albert's club mix is a niggling, Chicago influenced jam, his disco version is low slung and suitably cosmic, while Shayde's take works the organs over a tight house groove.
