Review: Whenever new Cosmic Bridge releases hit the store, we close the curtains and dim the lights, preparing our ears for a truly stunning listening experience. We are once again blessed with the opportunity to do just that as the sonic wonder of Crypticz lands with this wonderful new 12 track masterclass, entitled 'Transition Of Eye'. From start to finish this project is littered with pure production wizardry, from the beautiful synthetic meteor storms of the introductory arrangements of 'The Soundboy Tears', to the refined mysticism of 'Part Disappear' and emotive soundscaping and potent breakdowns of 'I Think I'm In Love With Living Again'. We cannot stress how important listening to this project on longplay will be, with the whole album guiding us on a journey through electrifying synthetics on tracks such as 'Through Waterfalls' alongside Maya Bruce, into overwhelming percussive brilliance on records such as 'Angles' and 'Death'. A truly wondrous body of work that we couldn't recommend highly enough.
Review: In a decade-long career German producer Danny Scrilla has amassed an enviable discography for any European trying to crack it in the UK. Appearing on labels like ZamZam Sounds, Civil Music and Cosmic Bridge, Danny Scrilla returns to Om Unit's label with a mini-LP taking in a plethora of grinding 85bpm sci-fi steppers in "World Below" to the Juke-inspired club grooves of "'Sparks". Two highlights for sure. Find something more synth, slow-mo and disco in the sparkly and chugging rhythms of "Suede Suit", next to some abstract dubstep and exotic percussion in "The Undying" or the future instrumental basspop of "Onyx". New wave experimental dub meets neo-soul, disco and pop!
Review: Om Unit takes it to the bridge once again. His label's first V/A collection since its evergreen Cosmology Sessions in 2017, it's another vast plane ripe in sonic depths and textures from some of the most left-minded, boundary-fusing captains in the bass game. Featuring two crucial link-ups from the bossman himself with two kindred spirits Djrum and Synkro plus a whole cosmic cornucopia of voyages from the likes of Danny Scrilla, J:Kenzo, Vromm and stacks more, every track is a highlight in its own beguiling way. No label flares with the same levels of dark vitality, there's more than enough for our brains to chew on right here.
Review: Now Cosmic Bridge are most certainly a label known to not be scared of pushing the boundaries, a trait they show off in abundance here as they bring forth the futuristic jukey compositions of A.Fruit. We kick off with the rapid firing vocal samples and drum punches of 'Make Them Shake' and the more experimental percussive inclusions and junglistic slices of 'Polykarp'. Following this we take a closer look at 'Deep Insight', a crispy, neurotic masterpiece, followed by even more creative vocal exploits and ever expanding drum patterns of 'Before You Go'.
Review: Spaniard-in-Bristol Jose Maria Moya Sanchez returns to Cosmic Bridge 18 months after his critically acclaimed debut "Init 1" with four more singular fusions. At points heady and rampant (the tribal, insistent snare-tapping Amazonian stepper adventure "Defender"), at others cathedral like in their scope and quivering scale (the deep space EP-titling lament "We Are Ghosts Now"), it's another dizzying blend that takes in and salutes a whole rainbow of UK genres along the way from UKG ("Titan") to bulldozer jungle ("Darkness Is Older Than Light") Complete with a cosmic 160 remix from Crypticz, it's another sterling voyage from Om Unit's camp.
Review: Returning from the highly well received release of 'Self' the Om Unit wave continues as Cosmic Bridge put together an official remix selection, spanning a range of styles and adding some cool additional depth to the project post release. To begin the party, DBridge gets to work on his official modification of 'What I Can Be', working it into an unpredictable tech expanse before SKRS revamp Passages into a progressive roller with their 'Batta&Bruise' VIP. Next up, Sorrow gets into his zone giving Rider Shafique's exceptional vocal performance on 'Normal' a crystallised stepper rework, before O$VMV$M finishes up the project with an extremely atmospheric overhaul of 'Tahatan'.
Review: Cosmic Bridge founder, longstanding beat sculptor, futurist, absolute don: Om Unit continues to compose some some of the most beguiling, bewitching and immersive compositions in the bass sphere. Self is his third and most explorative album so far as he guides and glides us through powerful atmospheres, dynamics and textures from palpitating ambient such as the opener "Cold Love" and harmonic "Passages" and warped light fractures of "Fieldofdreams" to neoclassical motifs on rolling tracks such as "Out Of The Shadows". Other unmissable highlights include the haunted Rider Shafique sermon "Nothing", the jittering cosmic soul of "Make Believe" with DRS and Amos's heart-pulling mystic soul of "What I Can Be". One of those albums that continues to offer more and more with every listen, Om Unit has created something incredibly special here.
