Review: All aboard the VIP train! Two big Magenta collab jams originally releases in 2021 on Timeless Audio are now being boosted by Cryptik on this special VIP double header. 'Get Down VIP' (with Critical J) has that sleazy, low-riding groaning funk coded into every twist and turn while 'Entertainment VIP' (with Lockerz) gets even funkoer with its crazed synth squiggles and grizzling and gutter-bound bass. Review: Young talent Jenks continues to level up with his debut on Cryptik. As with previous Cryptik dispatches, all friends are welcome making this one of the widest ranging and fullest flavoured snapshots of the Jenks sound so far. Featuring the likes of DJ Gaw, Harley D, Magenta and MCs such as Fernquest and Scoobs, across the six tracks Jenks does serious damage. Highlights include the wonky groove and eerie tones of the Harley D co-lab 'Take My Throne', the heads down sci-fi feels of 'Chillin' (with DJ Gaw) and the bright and bashy grime influences of the firing finale 'Paparazzi'. Review: Following huge EPs from the likes of Bunnerz, Bennie and Lockerz, Cryptik deliver the goods with one of the most consistent and prolific bangersmiths this year - Harley D. Here we find him match ready with some of his sharpest cuts, each one sculpted to end boss proportions. Highlights include the twisted sizzling slap-about 'Baddest', the tubular subby rumbles of 'CL2', the cute 8-bit drama of the title track and 'Step Aside', a gruesome tear-up with another man of the moment, Amplify. What an EP, the game has only just begun for Harley.
