Review: As ever with a Cuttin' It Fine remix package, we get ourselves ready to embrace the full spectrum of breakbeat-influence as The Party People invite four top quality remixers inside to rebuild their awesome "Set It Off" original. We initially jump down a super grizzly avenue as Beat Le Juice firstly unveils a reese-heavy switch-up, focussing on growling bass notation, before Moneyshot takes it old school with a more funk-influenced feeling. From here, we dive into a super-digitised approach as WBBL touches down with a speaker-busting overhaul, before Roast Beatz delivers the most dancefloor-sentric rework, giving us a tidy range of rethinks, right for every occasion.

Review: Whenever we see that Stabfinger has made a return to Cuttin' It Fine, we immediately lower the lights and prepare ourselves for a super exciting sonic adventure, with Boydex actually leading the line for the introductory sounds of 'In The House', seeing Stabfinger arrive as a tidy feature across groovy subs and futuristic drum work. Next, 'Love Session' gives us a slink through funkadelic guitar lines and squelching synthetic experimentation atop a classic hip hop vocal line, with the more rumbling drumwork of 'Wompelup' then calming the project as it moves forward. Finally, the full instrumental version of 'Love Session' sees us out in a truly finessed wind down.

Review: Liverpool lad Ben Jamin serves up five fresh re-edits of (mostly) boogie-era gems here. First under the scalpel are a couple of Gayle Adams cuts: 'Love Attraction' and 'I Can't Get Enough Of You', both from 1981 and now reinvented as 'Chain Attraction' and 'Get Enough', respectively. Next up, 'Take Your Love' finds us rewinding back a couple of years to Stargard's 'Wear It Out' from 1979 - which some may know better as Pete Heller's late 90s disco-house smash 'Big Love' - before finally we get Mr Jamin's take on Atlantic Starr's 'Circles' from 1982, which he's labelled 'Round And Round'.

Review: If it's box-fresh but still authentically vintage-sounding funk vibes you're after, you'll find them in abundance on this V/A four-tracker from UK label Cuttin' It Fine. Roast Beatz are up first with the James Brown-ish 'Jungle Steppin', before Gramophone Soul marry War/ Sly Stone-esque vocal chants with rap snips on the big beat-infused 'Day By Day'. Pecoe's 'Good To Me' then brings more phat-assed retro vibes, complete with some familiar-sounding vocal bites, before Frankee More plays us out with the rumbustious 'For The Music', which rocks another chanted funk vocal. Overall, file somewhere between big beat, funk breaks and straight-up funk.

Review: The Cuttin' It Fine team have been on fire across the full breadth of 2022, with this latest offering from Frankee More being another flirtatious edition to their already vibrant catalogue for the year. Prepare to boogie down as this one begins, with the uber groovy bass riffs and shuffling percussive crunches of the Alias Mix of 'All Nite' being a killer introductory idea. Everyman then arrives on the groove-inspiring guitar plucks and soulful vocal mastery of 'Shake That Thing', before all hell breaks loose on the monstrous synthetic shanks of 'Sweet Nightmares', twisting a dancefloor classic into a lucid trip. Finally, 'Hit The Deck' delivers a tidy backdrop for Kurnel MC to do what he does best, providing captivating, skippy lyricism to provide us with an ankle twisting showdown.

Review: The Cuttin' It Fine crew have a real nause for delivering futuristic but also classic sounding releases, two themes that almost summarise the sounds of Gramophone Soul, who arrives for a long awaited full length project entitled 'Soul Revolution'. The title hits the nail right on the albums sonic themes, as we are blessed with a wash of soulful vocal displays and funkadelic instrumental backdrops, from the groovy minimalist twists of '100 Degrees' alongside Lucy Richards, to the more mainstream celebration of 'For Your Soul' with Geoff Lai and 'Let It Go' featuring Craig Bevan. We do get a real dip into the more underground side of the Gramophone sound however, with the intelligently arranged rap vocals of Dr Syntax on 'Ignition' giving us something very different, next to the euphoric, choir-driven backdrops of 'My Choice' with Brotherman. The album as a whole is of course amplified greatly by its collaborative features, but the two solo appearances work as perfect outros, with the salsa-influenced vocal grooves of 'Move Me' and rock and roll guitar sweeps of 'Wings' closing out the project nicely. Exceptional work as per!

Review: Whenever the Cuttin' It Fine crew comes to town, we know full well that party time has commenced, as it has done once again with this wicked new selection from Swim Inc & Kenny Beeper. We have a thunderous introductory track as the sounds of 'Marble Garble' touch down for a western-inspired journey through funkadelic synthesis and gnarly drum processing, giving us a seriously bouncy first leg of the EP. From here, 'Big Clique Energy' sees Swim INC roll out solo for a sizzling sweep through jittering percussive pulses and choppy organ chords, giving us a real bubbler to enjoy, before 'I Like That' arrives as a much more melodic finale, linking together fidget-like synth lines with more booming drum ideas to round off this collection with a real slap. Fabulous work indeed once again from the Cuttin' It Fine crew.

Review: The Cuttin' It Fine crew sure know how to modernize hip hop and breaks fusion, with this latest collaborative appearance from Gramophone Soul & Dr Syntax giving us a tidy dive into funkadelic flavour. The original creation takes the title 'Ignition', which sees the instantly recognizable vocal tones of Dr Syntax arrive with some nostalgic flows and skippy lyricism over the top of Gramophone Soul's tidy, funk-infused instrumental, dripping in groovy horn samples and skippy breaksy textures for a fun result. This is then accompanied by the bass-heavy sweeps and vibrant arrangements of Baeboe's official remix, giving us an additional touch of dancefloor energy for good measure.

For Your Soul (Daytoner remix) - (3:36) 80 BPM
Review: Gramophone Soul is a relative newcomer from the Glasgow area whose output to date has mostly been offered to the world as free downloads. Hopefully that'll change soon because as 'For Your Soul' demonstrates, the man has a finely honed pop sensibility that suggests bigger things are surely possible. In its Original form, 'For Your Soul' sits roughly in the 'new old' soul territory mapped out by the likes of Speedometer, Smoove & Turrell et al, with a nagging "get up and dance" male vocal, parping sax and some reggae-ish guitar chops, while Daytoner's remix provides a slightly mellower variation on the theme.

Review: Hailing from Bournemouth on the UK's south coast, Roast Beatz is a self-described 'multi-genre' DJ whose sets span house, disco, funk, hip-hop, breaks, D&B and more. And he takes a similarly eclectic approach in the studio, as this five-tracker on his own Cuttin' It Fine label demonstrates. Making liberal use of some very familiar samples (see 'Punjabi Party' and 'Hold Your Head Up' in particular), what he's come up with are five tracks that span the spectrum from house to soul and funk, but that all have the kind of instant floor appeal that can only be achieved by those with some considerable experience in the booth.

Review: Following on from a very exciting start to 2022, Mr Fitz returns in dazzling form for a spicy four track display on Cuttin' It Fine, who continue to impress with their 'Freshly Dipped' artist series. We open up here with a bubbling D&B display, with the nostalgic hardcore piano lines and classic Buju Banton vocal of 'Oye Champion', giving us a throwback introduction to enjoy. From here we are then engulfed in the tropical sounding melodic switches of 'Canto De Ossanha', focussing in on gorgeous guitar plucks and the classic 'Under Me Sensi' vocal line, followed by the Northern-Soul inspired organ melodies of 'Big Girl' which injects a new layer of energy into proceedings. Finally, we take in one final powerhouse as 'Too Many Mics' arrives with a pitched down vocal, a bumping bassline and some sharp breaksy sampling to round off a solid collection in style!

Review: The Cuttin' It Fine crew have pulled together once again to deliver a bag of dancefloor ready riddims under the 'Funk Butter' compilation title, what more could we ask for? We begin with the emotive vocal sampling and big room keys of Frankee More's Re-Funk remix of 'I Like It' from Debarge, which sets high levels from the jump. From here, Mr Fitz delivers a horn-driven funk out on 'Sharons Land', topped with a powerful vocal display before the shuffling drum rhythms and disco-like string backing of 'Sunshine Love' from Pecoe does the business once again. Review: The Cuttin' It Fine crew are back at it once again with another dancefloor-ready four track display, this time handing the reigns over to Stabfinger, who most certainly delivers. We kick off with 'The Prophet', a crunchy combination of big room horn melodies and uber-punchy drum switches, giving us a lively introduction to the project as a whole. Next up, K.D.S gets involved for the super-sampling of 'Chaka & Will' linking up two funk inspired originals for a groovy rework, which then links very smoothly into the fidget-like bass swivels and dancefloor-ready 4x4 drum rolls of 'Crunchy Banger' alongside Keylox. Finally, 'Get On The Floor' gives us a moog-driven synthetic extravaganza or 4x4 flavour before K.D.S returns to 'Chaka & Will' for secondary edit, giving it one final breakbeat twist to round off the project in style.

With the title-track hot on the sexy percussion, sultry synths lines and wavering post-dubstep elements, "Patchy" throws down a gun-slinging and electro-swinging re-up of an all-time Dubsided classic. They deliver another set of four breakbeat belters, courtesy of both El Bomba & Roast Beatz. First up, El Bomba delivers a dancefloor-ready funk out in 'Take A Break', a lively combo of sharp drum slaps and lip-curling basslines, before Roast Beatz the energy with the groovy guitar plucks and singalong vocals of 'Party Over Here'. Back to El Bomba next as the classic sounding guitar melodies and unpredictable drum shakes of 'Bronco Funk' tone down the madness a tad, before rounding off with anthem-like arrangements of 'Get On Down' from Roast Beatz, boasting a showstopper of a bassline, draped in pleasing horn switches and tidy vocal chops for good measure.

Review: There is a high bar on the quality scale when it comes to Cuttin' It Fine's fantastic catalogue of original breakbeat wonder. This latest drop from Azido 88 & Cadillacque is a great example of them at their best, as the duo unveil a smooth newschool hip hop roller by the name of 'Heavy Hitters'. The original is a proper summertime anthem, a roof down, speakers blaring type of singalong, but the project really spices up when we begin to dive into the remixes. First up, X-Ray Ted supplies us with a funk-infused rethink, focussing on crunchy horn melodies, before Roast Beatz turns up the temperature with stripped back, bass-driven rethink. Finally, DZRT FRST supplies us with a tech-infused 4x4 refit of the tune, adding the final dash of variation needed to put this EP up to the next level!

Review: The Cuttin' It Fine team seem to be so damn consistent when it comes to selecting futuristic, forward-thinking breakbeat originals, a theme continued by Bright Idea here with this spicy four-track selection. We begin with the aquatic yet tight percussive crunches and uplifting melodic structures of 'Good Good', before the moogs take a leading role in 'Listen Up', a hip-twisting display of groovy fun. From here we continue our listening journey into 'Hold It Down', which takes a much more scattered, almost hip-hop like approach to it's drums, topped of with glittering funk-like synth leads, before 'Break It Down' delivers the most heavy-hitting original of the bunch, combining breathy drums with crunchy bass synths below. This makes for a great long-play in the sun.

Review: Cuttin' It Fine look to round off with the year in style as they welcome back the sounds of Liberty Chaps for a vibrant four track expanse, which kicks off with catchy bassline grooves and descriptive lyricism of the one and only Kurnel MC, who adds a definite energy boost to this one. Next, the twisted synthesis and super punchy drum designs of the title track 'Fungasm' work their way into play before Liberty Chaps give a chunky, drum-driven remix to Dr Syntax's classic 'Boombox' vocal, again steering the EP in a bit of a different direction. To round off, we find ourselves working through a wacky combination of high energy drum rhythms and well sampled guitar riffs on 'Pillbillies' to put the finishing touches on a very enjoyable selection.

For us, there are a couple of immediate standouts when talking through this one, the first of which has to be the skippy drumwork of 'Keep It Movin' alongside the smooth vocal presence of the legendary Rider Shafique, alongside the groovy-heavy rhythmic twists of 'The People' with the fabulous harmonies of Greg Blackman.
