Body Movin
Body Movin - (4:30) 174 BPM
Blinded - (4:34) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Returning to the label almost precisely a year since his 'Alternate Universe' EP, D&B soldier Jaydan is back on S.P.Y's DARKMTTR imprint with two absolutely howling floor-shakers. 'Body Movin' feels tailor made for massive rigs. Cavernous and dramatic, laced with tightly rolled percussion, it's a big cut as we build up towards the summer. 'Blinded' meanwhile is much more of a subversive creeper with its brassy stabs, jazzy vocal echoes and off-beat bass. Two stone cold cuts right here; Jaydan isn't playing around.

Arroyo
Arroyo - (4:30) 174 BPM Hot
NTY - (3:51) 174 BPM
Played by: Euphonique
Review: Now time for something rather gully. Literally... 'Arroyo' hits DARKMTTR's vaults and its one of the grizzliest, grimiest and straight-up funky tunes S.P.Y's label has released so far. Not content with flattening us with toxic waste bass one time, Kyrist then flips the vibe into something groovier and future focused on 'NTY' while still maintaining that dark bass energy. Arguably two of Kyrist's best tunes to date, these are exceptional.

Framework
IAMDOOMED - "Framework" - (4:28) 174 BPM
IAMDOOMED & M:FX - "Quadra" - (5:12) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Newsflash! IAMDOOMED is going to changed his name to IAMBLESSED because he's such a talented D&Bsmith. Not really. But he should do because these new DARKMTTR ditties are absolute weapons. 'Framework' is pure techno in its mindset and muscular structure while 'Quadra' (featuring M:FX) takes the techno ideology to a more twisted, insular, mutated level. Proper heads-down underground dancefloor tackle. Big up the DARKMTTR crew.

Complicated
Complicated - (4:26) 175 BPM
Insidious - (3:42) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Hot on the heels of his last month's 'Set Me Free / Source Code', Brazilian-in-Bristol S.P.Y continues to throw down some heavyweight feels on DARKMTTR. As always, he's thriving in the contrasts. 'Complicated' hits hard with its anthemic euphoria and big vocal hook before dropping into a rifle-like laser riff that rises and rises with venomous momentum. 'Insidious' meanwhile shows S.P.Y's headsier side off. A nod back to his Dubplate Style project, there's a swaggering UK feel to this one that you could imagine Randall laying down at 3am. Everyone's a winner right here.

Set Me Free
Set Me Free - (4:34) 175 BPM Hot
Source Code - (5:23) 172 BPM
Review: Following big bangers on the likes of Wilkinson's Sleepless and his original stomping ground Hospital Records earlier this year, Carlos S.P.Y returns to his own label DARKMTTR with two outright anthems for the summer season. Already big staples at festivals, these explosive emotional workouts show S.P.Y at his most heavyweight and heroic... 'Set Me Free' is a big dancefloor weapon laced with a rush-inducing arpeggio and beats slick enough to cause an oil disaster. 'Source Code' takes us deeper into S.P.Y's psyche with technoid elements and a sense of momentum strong enough to shave every hair from your body. Freedom!!!

Warehouse
Warehouse - (3:43) 174 BPM Hot
Never Say Never - (3:00) 174 BPM
Review: As if his recent tear-ups on Ram Records, or his new show on Kool weren't quite enough levelling up in recent weeks, the one and only DJ Hybrid gets busy on S.P.Y's DARKMTTR with two heavyweight hurters. 'Warehouse' lets rip with a prominent rhythmic vocal and a robust techy groove. 'Never Say Never' meanwhile is a much sharper, late night tear-up with razor breaks and more of a neuro/dancefloor fusion. Different tackle from DJ Hybrid but that's why we love him - man's always keeping us on our toes!

Review: Now here's an exciting union... Long time soldier Jaydan who usually flexes on the more jump-up side of the D&B sound is getting deep and heavy on S.P.Y's DARKMTTR. He's hitting all the right spots, too. Five slabs of utter fire, highlights include the sweeping, bass drama of 'Nobody Else', the high voltage bass lighting strikes and spacious steps of the title track 'Alternate Universe' and epic production and strongarm vibe on 'Hustler' where massive pneumatic kicks plunge us deep into the dancefloor and the breakdown whisks us up into the heavens. And that's the tip of this alternate iceberg.
