Review: In the early days of techno, Dutch label Djax was one of the most important outlets in bringing the sound of Chicago to Europe. Saskia Slegers' label, which celebrates 25 years in business this year, always favoured a tough, ghetto take on the 303 experiments emanating from the Windy City. It comes as no surprise then that From Within is moulded in this timeless sound. "Hypnotized" is based on an off-beat spiky rhythm and tweaked 303s, while the title track favours a deeper, more atmospheric approach, but remains on the dance floor thanks to Sleger's relentless snares. "The Nightwalker" is the most effective cut though, thanks to its mixture of relentless acid and twitchy hats, Here's to another quarter century.
