Review: Russian twosome Lovanda makes their bow on DOBRO, and as you'd expect what's on offer is rather good. Newcomer Max Rockid provides mixes of the two most ear-catching cuts: 'Fashion', a bouncy slab of hip-house/early '90s piano house fusion featuring rhymes in Russian and a killer bassline, and 'Dimon', where he successfully re-imagines the track as a gorgeous fusion of two-step garage, Rhodes-sporting deep house and radio-friendly pop. Elsewhere, 'Ne Bolno' is a drowsy mix of early-deep lo-fi house and seductive soul, while 'Flava' is a sundown-ready shuffle through starry deep house complete with hypnotic synth sounds and twinkling piano solos.

Review: Following a couple of low-key EPs, Green Sequence lands on DOBRO with a surprisingly impressive debut album. The Macedonian producer clearly has talent, with his dusty blends of jazz instrumentation, warming grooves and choice samples more often than not hitting the spot. He begins with a dash of slow-motion, head-nodding headiness, before serving up nine floor-friendly workouts that explore the woozier and sunnier side of MPC-driven deep house loveliness. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the twinkling, Rhodes-laden brilliance of 'Leavin', the disco-sampling, bass guitar-propelled deep dive of 'Messin' The Harp', the rubbery excellence of 'Voovojgrad' (which makes great use of chunks of an obscure, horn-heavy Eastern European big band soul jam from the 1960s) and the deliciously dubby, breakbeat-driven deep house shuffle of 'Moonlanding'.

Review: Since first emerging almost a decade ago, Igor Gonya has flitted between sample-heavy original productions and funk-fuelled disco edits, making his mark on labels including Sub_Urban, Moiss Music, Moulton Music and Tropical Disco. Here the Russian producer makes his bow on DOBRO, bringing with him a trio of peak-time ready house workouts shot through with heady disco samples and plenty of chunky bass. First up is 'Lighthearted', a deep house-tinged disco-house jam complete with booming bass and swirling strings, before joining forces with Simplex Motive on the New Jersey garage-influenced, organ bass-sporting summer house excellence of 'Upskirt House'. To round things off, Gonya goes solo once more on the shuffling, slightly off-kilter sample-house haziness of 'Zorin's Universe' (and yes, there are Christopher Walken vocal samples buried in the mix if you listen intently enough).

Review: We don't know much about Borka & The Gang, other than knowing that the artist has been releasing music sporadically for a few years and recently featured on the fourth volume in the excellent DOBRO Tape series. This EP, the first Borka and company collection for DOBRO, is full to bursting with sonically attractive, sun-soaked treats. Check first the hybrid disco/deep house/jazz flex of 'Need You', before exploring the blunted hip-hop samples, drowsy jazz loops and shuffling deep house grooves of 'Want That' and the squelchy nu-disco-goes-piano house excellence of 'Wings of Happiness'. Elsewhere, 'Wizard of Change' is a jazzy and bumpin' deep house jam of the sort that Derrick Carter was once renowned for playing, while 'Jazz Mutation' is an energetic, sweat-soaked pumper smothered in killer jazz samples.

Review: DOBRO's 'Tape' series of compilations is always worth checking, in part because the imprint uses it as a vehicle to showcase an eclectic mix of productions from new artists, rising stars and label regulars. Predictably, volume four in the series is another doozy, with plenty of hits and very few misses. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the hard-to-pigeonhole sample-house brilliance of Eloi's 'Life Is a Long Fleuve Tranquille', the tactile deep house warmth of Will Buck's 'Fine China', the languid Balearic disco bagginess of Mandalus's 'Come Closer', the synth-heavy squelch of Adham Zahran's 'Walking With You', the two step-goes-jazz-funk flex of Fred Aster's 'Strung Out', and the throbbing Italo-disco-goes-Hi-NRG pulse of 'The Happiest Track' by DJYesyes.

Review: DOBRO boss Iner welcomes a new name to the label, albeit one who has previously released music on labels including Spa In Disco and NDYD Records. VIGI's flex is classy-sounding, delightfully dusty deep house warmth, with opener 'Slow Motions' - a tactile and rolling blend of looped piano riffs, warming bass guitar, gorgeous chords and sun-bright synth motifs - providing the headline attraction. That track is followed by the woozy nu-disco synths, jazzy fills and relaxed deep house beats of 'Purple Sky', and the huggable, riff-heavy dancefloor warmth of 'Closer', another classy slab of deep house informed by US releases of the late '90s and early 2000s. That track is also given the remix treatment by label regular Will Sonic, who opts for tough house beats, drowsy chords and immersive pads.

Ugly Frankie - "Free Alcohol Shit" - (4:29) 122 BPM
Review: St Petersberg's Dobro label is noted not just for the quality and playability of its funky house and disco re-edits, but also for its value for money. This is another great example, with no less than six floorfillers included on one EP, each bringing their own individual mood to the table. 'Flowers Festival' from Sun Rhythms has throbbing organs and fruity keys, topped off by a gorgeous Russian vocal. DJ Merci's 'Timetable' goes for chunky rave pianos and Fairlight stabs, lending it an 80s Italo-disco feel, before Ground Plane Aerial's 'Transition SP' closes the side with slap bass and stripped down house vibe that echoes some of Roule Records' more accessible moments. Following is VIGI's 'I Am You', probably the most memorable of the whole package, with its idiosyncratic female vocal weaving a magical spell around the listener, before we finish off with a double whammy of Monny Me's swirling stringfest 'The Name Of The Game' and the parping horns and strutting groove of Ugly Frankie's 'Free Alcohol Shit', the latter including a bewitching and unexpected piano solo. Great work all round.

The Time Is Right (Siggatunez remix) - (6:25) 120 BPM
Review: Russian veteran Mike Popov AKA I Gemin comes to Iner's St Petersburg-based DOBRO label with four deep house jams that'll serve you equally well for post-club chillin' or for keeping 'em moving through till sun-up. 'Afterlife' centres around a looping guitar hook, rolling drums and treated soulful vocal snatches, while there are more treated vox on the similarly styled 'Tears I've Cried'. You then get two quite different mixes of 'The Time Is Right' itself to choose from: the Original's a gloriously moody, jazzy slo-mo funker, before Berlin's Siggatunez drags it onto the dancefloor with tuff, driving beats and heady synth washes.

Review: With just a handful of EPs and compilation tracks under his belt, the UK's Rory Grogan AKA Kellit impresses muchly with 'Back To The House', his first full-length. The clue's definitely in the title here, as the Liverpool-based producer serves up nine tracks that jauntily bump and groove their way along and around the very porous borders that separate 'deep', 'soulful' and 'funky' house. From the bass squelch and hands-in-the-air ivories of the title track to the mellower grooves of 'St Maximus' and 'A Nod To The 90s', househeads of various micro-persuasions should find at least something to play here, though our advice would be to forget about sub-genres and sub-sub-genres and just enjoy the whole thing in all its glory. On this evidence, career longevity shouldn't be a problem.

Review: Russian label Dobro serve up an EP from Complitzirt in which the French-German house producer delivers four reworks of what would appear to be boogie-era cuts - possibly European ones, though the source material will sadly have to go unidentified this time around. 'Dancin' With You In The Club' leads the charge for yours truly with its combination of pitched-up fem vox and squealin', squallin' rock guitar, but elsewhere it's all good too with 'Mona Lisa' a smooth slice of disco-soul, 'Sex At Midnight' bringing the hazy, lounge-y vibes and closer 'Gall' playing us out on a slightly more energetic tip.

Review: Nova Disco Club may be a rising star from Russia, but the producer's latest EP - his first for DOBRO - is rooted in the nostalgic, tactile and loved-up sounds of mid-90s Japanese deep house, and particularly the work of Soichi Terada. Opener 'Up In Smoke' is especially impressive, offering a blend of audio colour, tactile melodic motifs, eyes-closed vocal samples and gorgeous piano riffs, though the deeper, acid-flecked 'Low (Original Mix)' and wonderfully Terada-esque 'Hi Tokyo' are almost as inspired. We also get two different takes on 'Disco Sensation': Nova Disco Club's bouncy, squelchy bass-propelled original version, which is as nostalgic and smile-inducing as they come, and a breezier, organ-rich interpretation from Yann Polewka.

Review: We're fast approaching that time of year when demand for summery, tropical-tinged grooves may be somewhat slow, but there's still time for one last hurrah and it comes in the form of this four-tracker from Saint Petersburg's Sun Rhythms, whose work has appeared previously on Sundries Digital and Moiss Music as well as Dobro. Opener 'Love Mystery' is a lively disco cut with a two-part male/female vocal sung in Russian, while 'Wishes' homages 70s Afro-funk, 'Union' nods to Nu Yorican barrio funk of the same era and finally 'Potion Of Love' brings the lounge-y Hammond vibes. Hips will sway, mark our words!

Review: For its sixth release, the always funky DOBRO label has called up Dutchman Jan Janssen. He serves up a trio of gloriously sunny and slow motion house cuts with some top shelf remixes from Lay-Far, Scruscru and Juravlove. 'Architecture Of Happiness' opens in heart melting fashion with shuffling drums and atmospheric vocals next to leggy drums and warming bass. 'Sense Of Wonder' is another jazzy and soulful house cut with skip in the drums. 'Where Have You Gone' ups the pace but is no less loved-up before the remixes add extra funk, club beats and blissed-out deepness.

Review: DOBRO's ongoing Tape series - so-called because it is also released on cassette - has so far proved to be a reliable source of mixed-up material from a wide range of largely unknown and up-and-coming European artists. The third edition of the series is as strong as its predecessors and contains an alluring mixture of dusty, jazz-flecked deep house (Jan Janssen, the sample-rich, low-slung haziness of Sven Wegner), disco-tinged dancefloor workouts (Stogov), filter-heavy peak-time loop jams (Siggatunez), tooled-up re-edits with a twist (Alexny, Jordan Reece, the rubbery, horn-heavy brilliance of 'Romantic Train' by Cosmoconics), head-nodding MPC beats (Deej of Kooley High) and rushing, shirts-off piano house cheeriness (Dan PM, Sascha Chiminiera and Phonk D).

Review: Luca Olivotto, a Berlin-based producer who's previously appeared on labels such as The Basement Discos and Inhale/Exhale, serves up some very fine trad-style house and garage grooves on this EP for DOBRO. 'Only One' itself marries an intricate funk bassline to 90s hands-in-the-air pianos, and comes complete with a tougher, denser Iner Remix, while elsewhere on the EP, 'Good Vibrations' foregrounds pianos redolent of early 90s (US) garage, 'Want You' flirts with disco and boogie flavas and 'Universe' comes on like classic rave given a jazzual makeover. Good stuff all round, but the Original of the title track wins out for yours truly.

Review: Three tracks of authentically 70s-sounding disco action here from Spanish producer Alex Gomez, who goes professionally by the name of Addict Disc. 'West Coast' itself gets the ball rolling - "rolling" being very much the operative word as the instrumental groove slinks and shimmies its way to the end. 'Love Code' is a far more uplifting and energetic affair, albeit thankfully without ever straying into the realm of saccharine euphoria. We're then played out by 'Is For You', a fairly pacey lil' shuffler that nudges a little closer to boogie pastures. It's all very playable but the lead cut was chosen well, nuff said!

Review: After an extended period spent contributing cuts to multi-artist releases, Classonix pop up on Iner's DOBRO label with their first solo EP since 2018. The Russian duo kick things off in fine style via the organic house/jazz-funk fusion of 'Everyday' - all glistening jazz guitar solos and sun-kissed sax motifs - before opting for a low slung, nu-jazz influenced sound on 'Pour Some More of Your Signature Cocktail'. 'The Fabulous East' is a warming, synth-heavy slab of mid-80s proto-Balearica, while 'Caribbean Nights' is a gorgeous, dub-flecked chunk of sunset deep house rich in colourful synth sounds and dreamy pads. Remixer Will Buck does a terrific job in transforming the latter track into a chunkier, peak-time ready piano house bumper. A quietly impressive comeback all told.

The Iner-helmed imprint excels in blurring the boundaries between deep house, disco and blunted beats, with many of the featured producers being either confirmed underground heroes, or promising debutants. Triem, the artist behind this EP, falls into the latter category. It's certainly a confident first outing, with highlights including the swirling string loops, trippy filter effects and bustling house beats of 'Quilho Plane', the colourful boogie-house squelch of 'Death Riff', the joyous and summery disco-house bounce of 'Hotel Syfax' and the Soundstream-goes-sample house excellence of 'Chico's Groove'.

Review: Following up releases by DJ Merci, Will Sonic and Sun Rhythms, St. Petersburg-based label Dobro returns with this brilliant EP by Opprefish. After having studied music theory for more than 10 years, practicing saxophone and guitar, the young Parisian decided to produce electronic music which resulted in releases on Rewind Ltd, Fantin Zoo and InFine over the years. The Rhodes Kheys EP features the chilled soul-jazz beats of "CHURN Mitigaschoen", while the title track gets a neon-lit nu-disco makeover by Gome, plus two dusty, late-night deep house excursions in collaboration with DJ Gravlax.

Review: Nurvous [sic], Feedasoul and Sengily Recordings regular DJ Merci is a producer on the rise, as this first outing on Iner's excellent Dobro label proves. Rich in jazz-funk-influenced musicality, warming analogue bass, sparkling piano riffs and meticulously programmed drums, it's a vivid and vibrant affair that lingers long in the memory. Our picks of a very strong bunch are the chunky, stab-happy piano house rush of 'Summer Love', the sun-kissed, synth-laden nu-disco warmth of 'Boogie Down' and the drowsy, gently unfurling deep house brilliance of 'Slow Rising'. Jank provides a fine remix of the latter tune, too, pitching it down to 111 BPM while adding rubbery bass guitar, dreamy pads, twinkling piano motifs and eyes-closed vocal samples.

Review: Following up great releases by Will Sonic, Iner and Sun Rhythms, St. Petersburg-based label Dobro returns with VA 004, compiled by the aforementioned Iner and featuring groovy music from around the globe, or as the label best described themselves 'a lot of sunny house and disco bangers.' Starting off with Sable Blanc's take on the dusty MPC house sound of Berlin with 'Humming Bird On The Spot', followed by KX9000 & Berzingue getting into some Windy City style late night deepness on 'Hasch 3000'. Elsewhere, highlights come from the likes of Meowsn who gives their best KDJ impression on 'Q', and Martem & Maoree's loopy disco inferno 'Walking Down The Street'.

Review: Some fine festive fare here from the fast-rising DOBRO imprint, who've used the season of goodwill as an excuse to deliver another fine, 16-rack compilation of previously unreleased material. Kicking off with the emotive, shuffling deep house loveliness of Buzz Compass's 'Hartbit', the collection gleefully skips between sample-rich disco-house (Mutenoise, Leiba, Hotmood), quirky Latin house (Babak, Kostenko Brothers), squelchy late-80s techno revivalism (SIRS and Lovebirds), nu-boogie (Scruscru with label boss Iner), wall-of-sound deep house positivity (Selva, the jaunty vintage late '80s 'garage-house' vibes of Sun Rhythms) and hazy, sunrise-ready wonder (Kerrinis and TonyZzz). Brilliantly programmed, it's a fine compilation of positive, ear-pleasing excellence.

Review: Iner's Dobro label is fast becoming a must-check source of high-grade "kind music in all forms", as the man himself puts it. There's plenty to enjoy on the imprint's latest outing, which successfully showcases the work of rising star Will Sonic. He begins with two complimentary solo productions: the languid, sub-heavy shuffle of 'Dobrota', where sun-speckled melodic motifs and ear-pleasing electronics ride a breakbeat house groove, and the chopped-up disco-house/jazz-house fusion of peak-time workout 'Party People Dream'. Iner then joins him for two collaborative excursions: the squelchy, swinging deep house haziness of 'Dam Homie' and the sunburst cheeriness of 'Take Over', a whirlwind of chipper synth sounds, jazz-house drums and squelchy electronics.

Review: Iner's impressive Dobro label continues to deliver debuts from talented, up-and-coming artists. The latest comes courtesy of fellow Saint Petersburg native Sun Rhythms, a previously unheralded DJ/producer whose first EP includes sparkling, afternoon-ready re-edits of all manner of tasty cuts. He begins by cannily looping, extending and rearranging a glassy-eyed, boogie-era '80s soul gem (the squelchy bass, slick vocals and squiggly synths of 'Better To Love'), before adding low-end weight to an eccentric, off-kilter Latin disco stomper ('Torro La Fiesta'). 'One Day Happiness' is a lusciously sun-kissed rearrangement of a colourful European deep house gem from the turn of the '90s, while 'Out Away' is a piano and vibraphone-laden dance through dream house pastures. In a word: lovely!

Review: Certain tracks are so effortlessly joyous and life-affirming that dropping them in the club will guarantee smiles all round. Iner's 'Trip of Happiness', the lead cut from the latest EP on his edit-minded Dobro label, is one of those. Powered forwards by colourful keyboard riffs, unfussy drums and waves of attractive electronics, it's a hands-in-the-air affair that seemingly builds from start to finish. Iner's second contribution to the EP, 'White Nights in St Petersburg', is also impressive, with the producer conjuring an acid bass-propelled slab of retro-futurist Afro-house. Saint Paul delivers two equally righteous rubs too: the tactile, early '90s soulful house wonder that is 'A Natural High' and the more bustling funky house flex of 'Joie De Vivre', where chunky house beats combine cleverly with vintage disco-funk instrumentation.

Review: The first release from Belarussian producer Iner's Dobro label contained a wealth of high-class deep house treats from an expansive cast of international artists. This sequel follows on along similar lines, with Iner choosing to showcase six sizzling tracks from a variety of rising stars and established. Spanish producer Hurlee kicks things off via the atmospheric and musically detailed deep house jazziness of 'Pel Meu Per Tu', before Igor Gonya wraps jazzy old soul snippets around a bustling beat on 'Mess In The Head'. Sun-kissed, electric piano-laden carnival house flavours are the order of the day on Cosmocomics' 'Surf and Smoothie', while MuteNoise and Jeff The Fool both make merry with samples lifted from classic disco-funk jams. Will Sonic successfully rounds things off with a classic-sounding deep house pumper with bags of energy ('Musica Melodica').

Review: Belarus' Iner launches a new label with a strong cast of international names all pushing a deep and distinguished strain of house music for those who want soul and invention in equal measure. Tilman is up first with 'Sweet Dreamer', a mellow, looped up roller. Sune's 'Flutes' takes a breezier approach shaped out by fluttering jazz funk motifs. Yann Polewka celebrates the sweetest Philly strings and some classic vocal licks for a disco-infused burner you can't help but love. Iner himself keeps things loose and organic on the wonderful 'Respectfull Kind Music', while Scruscru goes for a sleek approach to chopped up funky house. That leaves it to Buzz Compass to get heady and hazy with the bass-leaning cuts coursing through 'That Nighter'.
