Sun Rhythms - "Flowers Festival" - (4:22) 120 BPM
DJ Merci - "Timelapse" - (6:37) 126 BPM Hot
Ground Plane Aerial - "Transition" - (6:07) 126 BPM
VIGI - "I Am You" - (5:05) 124 BPM
Moony Me - "The Name Of The Game" - (5:32) 123 BPM
Ugly Frankie - "Free Alcohol Shit" - (4:29) 122 BPM
Review: St Petersberg's Dobro label is noted not just for the quality and playability of its funky house and disco re-edits, but also for its value for money. This is another great example, with no less than six floorfillers included on one EP, each bringing their own individual mood to the table. 'Flowers Festival' from Sun Rhythms has throbbing organs and fruity keys, topped off by a gorgeous Russian vocal. DJ Merci's 'Timetable' goes for chunky rave pianos and Fairlight stabs, lending it an 80s Italo-disco feel, before Ground Plane Aerial's 'Transition SP' closes the side with slap bass and stripped down house vibe that echoes some of Roule Records' more accessible moments. Following is VIGI's 'I Am You', probably the most memorable of the whole package, with its idiosyncratic female vocal weaving a magical spell around the listener, before we finish off with a double whammy of Monny Me's swirling stringfest 'The Name Of The Game' and the parping horns and strutting groove of Ugly Frankie's 'Free Alcohol Shit', the latter including a bewitching and unexpected piano solo. Great work all round.

Mona Lisa - (6:16) 128 BPM
Dancin' With You In The Club - (4:44) 129 BPM
Sex At Midnight - (4:53) 129 BPM Hot
Gall - (6:07) 126 BPM
Review: Russian label Dobro serve up an EP from Complitzirt in which the French-German house producer delivers four reworks of what would appear to be boogie-era cuts - possibly European ones, though the source material will sadly have to go unidentified this time around. 'Dancin' With You In The Club' leads the charge for yours truly with its combination of pitched-up fem vox and squealin', squallin' rock guitar, but elsewhere it's all good too with 'Mona Lisa' a smooth slice of disco-soul, 'Sex At Midnight' bringing the hazy, lounge-y vibes and closer 'Gall' playing us out on a slightly more energetic tip.

Review: Nova Disco Club may be a rising star from Russia, but the producer's latest EP - his first for DOBRO - is rooted in the nostalgic, tactile and loved-up sounds of mid-90s Japanese deep house, and particularly the work of Soichi Terada. Opener 'Up In Smoke' is especially impressive, offering a blend of audio colour, tactile melodic motifs, eyes-closed vocal samples and gorgeous piano riffs, though the deeper, acid-flecked 'Low (Original Mix)' and wonderfully Terada-esque 'Hi Tokyo' are almost as inspired. We also get two different takes on 'Disco Sensation': Nova Disco Club's bouncy, squelchy bass-propelled original version, which is as nostalgic and smile-inducing as they come, and a breezier, organ-rich interpretation from Yann Polewka.

Love Mystery - (5:16) 128 BPM
Wishes - (4:29) 116 BPM Hot
Union - (3:37) 123 BPM
Potion Of Love - (4:01) 107 BPM
Review: We're fast approaching that time of year when demand for summery, tropical-tinged grooves may be somewhat slow, but there's still time for one last hurrah and it comes in the form of this four-tracker from Saint Petersburg's Sun Rhythms, whose work has appeared previously on Sundries Digital and Moiss Music as well as Dobro. Opener 'Love Mystery' is a lively disco cut with a two-part male/female vocal sung in Russian, while 'Wishes' homages 70s Afro-funk, 'Union' nods to Nu Yorican barrio funk of the same era and finally 'Potion Of Love' brings the lounge-y Hammond vibes. Hips will sway, mark our words!

Opprefish & DJ GRAVLAX - "Whateupdoux" (original mix) - (6:00) 122 BPM
Review: Following up releases by DJ Merci, Will Sonic and Sun Rhythms, St. Petersburg-based label Dobro returns with this brilliant EP by Opprefish. After having studied music theory for more than 10 years, practicing saxophone and guitar, the young Parisian decided to produce electronic music which resulted in releases on Rewind Ltd, Fantin Zoo and InFine over the years. The Rhodes Kheys EP features the chilled soul-jazz beats of "CHURN Mitigaschoen", while the title track gets a neon-lit nu-disco makeover by Gome, plus two dusty, late-night deep house excursions in collaboration with DJ Gravlax.

Torro La Fiesta - (4:35) 122 BPM
One Day Happiness - (3:56) 122 BPM
Out Away - (4:38) 121 BPM
Review: Iner's impressive Dobro label continues to deliver debuts from talented, up-and-coming artists. The latest comes courtesy of fellow Saint Petersburg native Sun Rhythms, a previously unheralded DJ/producer whose first EP includes sparkling, afternoon-ready re-edits of all manner of tasty cuts. He begins by cannily looping, extending and rearranging a glassy-eyed, boogie-era '80s soul gem (the squelchy bass, slick vocals and squiggly synths of 'Better To Love'), before adding low-end weight to an eccentric, off-kilter Latin disco stomper ('Torro La Fiesta'). 'One Day Happiness' is a lusciously sun-kissed rearrangement of a colourful European deep house gem from the turn of the '90s, while 'Out Away' is a piano and vibraphone-laden dance through dream house pastures. In a word: lovely!

Iner - "Trip Of Happiness" - (6:55) 116 BPM Hot
Iner - "White Nights In St. Petersburg" - (7:59) 125 BPM
Saint Paul - "A Natural High" - (6:19) 123 BPM
Saint Paul - "Joie De Vivre" - (5:33) 123 BPM
Review: Certain tracks are so effortlessly joyous and life-affirming that dropping them in the club will guarantee smiles all round. Iner's 'Trip of Happiness', the lead cut from the latest EP on his edit-minded Dobro label, is one of those. Powered forwards by colourful keyboard riffs, unfussy drums and waves of attractive electronics, it's a hands-in-the-air affair that seemingly builds from start to finish. Iner's second contribution to the EP, 'White Nights in St Petersburg', is also impressive, with the producer conjuring an acid bass-propelled slab of retro-futurist Afro-house. Saint Paul delivers two equally righteous rubs too: the tactile, early '90s soulful house wonder that is 'A Natural High' and the more bustling funky house flex of 'Joie De Vivre', where chunky house beats combine cleverly with vintage disco-funk instrumentation.

Will Sonic - "Musica Melodica" - (4:55) 125 BPM
Review: The first release from Belarussian producer Iner's Dobro label contained a wealth of high-class deep house treats from an expansive cast of international artists. This sequel follows on along similar lines, with Iner choosing to showcase six sizzling tracks from a variety of rising stars and established. Spanish producer Hurlee kicks things off via the atmospheric and musically detailed deep house jazziness of 'Pel Meu Per Tu', before Igor Gonya wraps jazzy old soul snippets around a bustling beat on 'Mess In The Head'. Sun-kissed, electric piano-laden carnival house flavours are the order of the day on Cosmocomics' 'Surf and Smoothie', while MuteNoise and Jeff The Fool both make merry with samples lifted from classic disco-funk jams. Will Sonic successfully rounds things off with a classic-sounding deep house pumper with bags of energy ('Musica Melodica').
