Review: Many happy returns to Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs label, which has now notched up two decades releasing music. To celebrate, they've put together this anniversary collection full to bursting not with classic cuts, but rather new and unheard music for those who like their dancefloor music dark and twisted. Fittingly, Silicone Soul kick things off with the chunky, squelchy bass-propelled early morning hedonism of 'Fahrenheit 625 (WRC Remix)', while low-slung, locked-in throb-jobs are provided by Theus Mago ('Intensify'), Undo (the acid-fired trip that is 'Vencejos') and Subcisco (the trippy, sub-heavy and wide-eyed 'Boiling Point'). There are quite a few tasty musical curveballs too, not least the Chicken Lips-on-acid flex of 'Lucky Luciano' by Am$trad Millionaire and the woozy electro-meets-EBM haziness of 'Always Almost' by Of Norway.

Review: Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs return courtesy of Greek dub techno explorer Stelios Vassiloudis - making his debut on the Glasweigian imprint. Following up a slew of impressive releases recently on Bedrock, Poker Flat and Australian label Balance, the Nero EP is what the label eloquently described itself as a 'deep, dark and beguiling affair'. From the ice cold and glacial emotions of cavernous opener "Doxie #3",to the dub laden and reverb drenched aesthetic continuing on the entrancing groove of "Error" and the afterhours inspired minimal funk of "1MDB" using TB303 acid in tandem with yet more sublime dub chord action - this release is indeed dark music for dark times.

Review: Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs build on the foundations laid 30 years ago during that Second Summer Of Love - and they rewind back to that zeitgeist in '88/'89 by way of current artists and some legends alike: the heady haze of two culture-accelerating summers. The veteran UK DJ Justin Robertson fires up his Deadstock 33 alias once again on this blissed-out electro groove of "Infinite Interchange", Scandinavian tech-house heroes Of Norway (Connaisseur/My Favorite Robot) deliver the dubby and evocative mood lighting of "She Never Lost A Passenger" and label mainstays Skinnerbox get properly moody on the atmospheric "Nyeusi" (Original Mix).

Review: Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs label is always a trusted outpost for stripped down tech house lashed with machine soul, and so it continues to be the case on this single from Spanish artist Scan Mode. Despite the three tracks all sporting the "Panama Jaxx" title, they come with their own unique agendas. "1.1" is a simmering warm-up jam that focuses on measured pace and carefully deployed melodic content, while "1.2" lets the synths ring out a little more loudly in amongst a solid stomp of a beat. "1.3" however steps a little to the side to indulge in a spot of emotive acid for the terrace generation, and does a fine job of it too.

Review: Of Norway are, well...of Norway! Oslo to be exact. After greta releases previously on the likes of Connoisseur and My Favourite Robot, they're back on Darkroom Dubs with Black Desert Disco Club. On "Blackened Fez" a trippy melody and sleek tech house beats merge with exotic instrumentation, a track perfect to be played out at Burning Man. The Bloody Mary remix of said track is pretty killer too; a bumpy, high octane tech house stomper. The bumpy and grinding "Black Desert Disco Club" soon gives way to some uplifting melodics and pads, it's a brilliant pre peak time journey track. Finally the artist formerly known as King Cannibal; House Of Black Lanterns, delivers a killer dub techno remix that's so smoky and glacial it'd that would make Deepchord or Steve Hitchell stand up and notice.
