Review: South African producer Stan Deep has yet to make a significant breakthrough in terms of profile, yet his growing discography is packed to the rafters with high-grade fusions of deep house and Afro-house. Whether or not this EP on Deephonix gives his career a boost remains to be seen, but it's certainly very good. He kicks things off with the rolling late-night grooves of 'The Animal', where warehouse-ready stabs ride a chunky bassline and bouncy Afro-tech beats, before opting for a deeper, dreamier and more melodic sound on the luscious 'Cows In The City'. He doffs a cap to Ivory Coast producer Mr Raoul K on the breezy and positive 'The Gorilla', while 'Flying Chickens' sees him smother a deep, winding Afro-house groove with heady chords and sun-kissed melodies.
