Review: Throughout their decade-long career, Alma Negra has combined their love of disco and deep house with percussion, instrumentation and ideas excavated from African, Caribbean and tropical musical cultures. On this EP, they largely ditch the latter inspirations, instead delivering full-throttle revivalist disco sounds where the Basel-based band's organic instrumentation and vocals combine with colourful synth sounds and heady horns. The headline attraction is undoubtedly 'Madrugada', a warming and thickset, subtly deep house-influenced take on the turn-of-the-80s NYC downtown disco-not-disco sound. It comes backed with two revisions - an extra-percussive, dubbed-out Yuksek tweak and the band's own dub disco-goes-deep house 'Dub Mix' - and the riotous, party-starting brilliance of 'Funky Fever'.

Without You EP
Without You - (6:23) 124 BPM Hot
Strip Town - (5:26) 120 BPM
Lex (Athens) & Locke - "Purity" (feat Guto Fernandez) - (5:26) 122 BPM
Lex (Athens) & Dennis Liber - "No Time For Formalities" - (6:16) 128 BPM
Review: Almost two years on from his last appearance on the label - a collaborative release alongside German drummer, percussionist and producer Locke - Athenian veteran Lex returns to Delusions of grandeur. This time round it's a nominally a solo mission, though Locke and Dennis Liber do appear as featured collaborators on selected tracks. Our pick of a very strong bunch is 'Without You', a hypnotic and locked-in acid house roller full of mind-mangling TB-303 motifs, jazzy Rhodes licks and spacey chords, though the deep and funky, disco and jazz-funk tinged 'Strip Town' is almost as good. Locke and Guto Fernandez hook-up 'Purity' is a fine vocal number that sits somewhere between percussive Latin house and nu-disco, while Dennis Liber collaboration 'No Time For Formalities' sounds like a long-lost piano house track from 1988.

Zone Tonight - (7:36) 118 BPM

Review: Mark E, the underground maestro with an illustrious career spanning nearly two decades, returns to Delusions Of Grandeur with his latest creation, the "Enchantment Under The Sea EP." This release showcases Mark Evetts' unmistakable touch, a sublime vision of US deep house that goes beyond the confines of the dance floor. The EP kicks off with the title track, "Enchantment Under The Sea," a sonic journey that lives up to its name. Born in the Black Country, Mark E weaves fluid, ocean-deep chords and electronic melodies around a backdrop of lo-fi drum machine beats and an undulating bassline. "Zone Tonight" follows suit, offering a similarly deep, melodious, and tactile experience. Atmospheric synth strings, hypnotic drums, starry pads, and a bubbly bassline come together to create a late-night cityscape driving track. "Vertigo" takes a jazzier and sunnier turn, guaranteed to bring smiles to faces. Mark E's masterful production shines through, creating a composition that effortlessly blurs the boundaries between lilting analogue synth-pop and wide-eyed deep house. The EP concludes with the stunning "Bodymap," where the tempo gently descends, featuring minimal yet expressive drum patterns, a touch of melancholic strings, and a pulsating bassline.

Fight The Feeling EP
Fight The Feeling - (6:26) 61 BPM
Powerslide - (5:35) 122 BPM Hot
Dance The Funk - (5:21) 58 BPM
Review: Jimpster, under his Franc Spangler alias, delivers a delightful return to Delusions with three funky, disco-infused tracks that demand a dancefloor. Kicking things off with "Fight The Feeling" he crafts a rolling groove enriched with dubby percussion, horn solos, and soaring lead synths. "Powerslide" takes us on a retro journey with clav and guitar chops, Hammond slides, and an irresistible bassline, setting the stage for a high-energy club anthem. "Dance The Funk" closes the release with its deep, low-slung bounce and some juicy synth stabs, a heavy Moog bassline, and crunchy house drums.

Rhythm & Truth EP
Rhythm - (7:15) 128 BPM Hot
Truth - (6:41) 122 BPM
Keep On - (7:10) 116 BPM
Review: A warm welcome back to 6th Borough Project, who have been rather quiet since the release of their Find Your Rhythm album on Roar Groove back in 2017. The Rhythm & Truth EP is genuinely a triumphant comeback, with the pair once again working their magic with a bunch of killer loops, some weighty basslines, and infectious rhythm tracks. Those wanting "classic" 6th Borough Project should check the filter-heavy, disco-sampling deep house wonder that is 'Truth', though lead cut 'Rhythm', a more percussive, slowly building affair rich in quality bass and organ loops, is arguably even better. Finally, they explore their love of dusty, ultra-deep mid-tempo jams on the sublime 'Keep On', which is closest of all three tracks to the sound the Scottish duo explored on their early releases for Jiscomusic and Instruments of Rapture.
